Backswing vs. Agile

Advice

Fairly simple math question I suppose. Say you're a Monk with Dragon Style for a 1d10 backswing tail, but you also have 1d6 agile claws.

If you miss with your first strike, which attack has better average damage on the second hit?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

that would be the backswing attack.

they come at the same modified bonus but dragon kick has higher base damage.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

I guess if I had stopped to think for a moment I would have realized that +1 to hit is the exact same thing as -1 to MAP... Thanks for the simple answer.

You're a monk, you use your third attack on your second action.

nonono you use your 1st action to stride to flank, 2nd action for the Roar, and 3rd action for the 2 attacks!

if you don't have to move just use your 1st action to raise our shield, because monks with shields appear to be the norm in pf2.

LOL Yep, that was how I was looking at it: move [or defensive move like raise shield, parry, ect], roar, flurry.

I keep hearing it being the "norm." But I have not seen it in my groups. And it would never occur to me to do it. It just seems weird.

Wushu/Shaolin disciplines use shields. They make perfect sense, particularly if arrows exist. Which obviously they do.

I'm also waiting to see one. And I play mostly PFS, so I've played with quite a few monks and I've never seen a single one of them raising a shield.

Rattan shields are used in Korean [24 arts of Muye Eship Saban], Chinese [Shaolin Kung Fu], Japanese [Okinawan kobudō] and even Indian [Kalaripayattu] and south African [Nguni stick fighting] martial arts.
