Can someone explain to me why the construct rider alchemist isn't PFS Legal?

Silver Crusade

I've been looking at this thing from every angle i can think of i can't see what could lead someone to think its bannable.

Sovereign Court

Its simple, you can't craft magical items(in this case constructs) of any sort yourself in PFS. The archetype is focused a bit on crafting additional constructs and you could read at least one of their discoveries as requiring a potion that you have crafted yourself.

Not everything banned in PFS is because its 'too strong'.

It would require two changes to begin with. Since the archetype gives up Brew Potion, a PFS version would give up Extra Bombs. Then you have to replace or just drop Craft Construct. While the initial construct mount certainly doesn’t appear significantly better than an animal companion or a bonded mount, I guess I might be missing something. Yeah, not really seeing a problem here.

Because it's fun...

There's also some ambiguity about how it works. They didn't really provide a way to repair your construct.

There are a couple of threads out there about it.

Deific Obedience Brigh gets Make Whole 2/day SLA, and other stuff.

The Spell Knowledge Discovery can get you Make Whole and/or Rapid Repair.

Shadow Lodge

I believe the general 'rule of thumb' for PFS has been:

  • If a class has a 'problem' feature, PFS will have a specific fix/exception to keep it playable.
  • If an archetype has a 'problem' feature, PFS will just not allow it at all.
As noted in earlier posts, this particular archetype swaps out a class feature you don't actually get in PFS and it gains the Craft Construct feat, which is banned with all the other item creation feats.

Keep in mind that things can be banned from PFS for a variety of reasons:

  • Unbalanced - Item creation feats allowing you to exceed the campaign wealth guidelines
  • Evil - Evil characters don't work well in essentially random groups and might cause PR issues for an organization that is trying to encourage game play.
  • Ambiguity - Since a single character could have 30+ different GMs, features that might be interpreted differently by different GMs become extremely problematic since you can't just build around a single GM's interpretation.
