Tarondor's New Game

Play-by-Post Discussion

I've decided to open a new game and I've invited a few of you here to discuss what that game ought to be. I'm going to discuss a few options and I'd like you to say something about each:

A = Of the options presented, I am most interested in this game.
B = I would play this if that's what the group decides.
F = I will not play in this game.

I'm hoping for at least one "A" out of each of you.

___________________________________________________________________________ ___
OPTION 1) The Two-Headed Serpent, a Pulp Cthulhu campaign. Fair warning to Call of Cthulhu fans: this is not exactly Call of Cthulhu. Rather than brooding investigators slowly losing their sanity, this is Indiana Jones and Doc Savage punching evil in the face...and losing their sanity. Here's a review with lots of spoilers. The campaign is about a globe-spanning conspiracy very much in the Indiana Jones style.
Scott's Rating: A

OPTION 2) The Darkening of Mirkwood a The One Ring campaign. The One Ring is a game system designed to emulate the heroic feel of Middle Earth. Its limited by design to give the campaign a very Tolkien-esque aspect. It's not for hardcore D&D/Pathfinder simulationists but it -is- for hardcore Tolkien simulationists. The campaign occurs over 30 years of time (you may wind up playing your original hero's children or grandchildren) leading up to the driving out of the Necromancer by the White Council prior to the War of the Ring.
Scott's Rating: A

OPTION 3) Tyrant's Grasp Adventure Path, but done in Pathfinder 2e, not 1e. A fun campaign. It's just that I'm already running a few 2e campaigns.
Scott's Rating: B

PF2e Enthusiast

Option 3 is the only option for me. I only have bandwidth (kids, wife, school, work) to stay in current system (2E), going outside of it would have me opt out.

A for Pulp Cthulhu!

F for One Ring. I don't hate it, but I'm not excited about it and I want to be excited about a new game.

B for Tyrant's Grasp.

I've invited a few other people to comment. But I'm anxious to get going before my attention is dragged away by the next shiny penny. Decision made tonight one way or the other.

Thanks for the consideration. I'd love to game with you again.

Of the options, I would definitely love to play a Pathfinder 2e campaign from the start. That's my A. That said, I'm currently in Tyrant's Grasp. :/ I could absolutely get behind another P2 game and could play quite a few APs.

I'd give Option 1 a B.

Though I do like LotR (and could probably give it a B), let's call it a B minus. :)

I do have some hesitation learning a totally new game system, and I really only know Pathfinder and Pathfinder 2e (which I've been starting up a home game of--finally catching up).

| HP 9/14 SP 12/12 | RP 3/5 | EAC 14; KAC 15 | Fort +0; Ref +5; Will +3 | Init: +2 | Perc: +5, SM: +5; low-light vision | Speed 30ft | charge cloak 1/1 | Active conditions: None. Gender: "Gazigaz" Male CG skittermander xenoseeker envoy 2

Option 1 is a B for me.
Option 2 is an A for me.
Option 3 is an B for me.

Okee-doke.

So we have:

1) A - F - A - B - B = 6

2) A - F - F - B - A = 5

3) B - A - B - A* - B = 5 or 7, depending on whether we play Tyrant's Grasp or something else.

Okay, to be honest, as time has gone by what I feel is excitement about The Two-Headed Serpent and The Darkening of Mirkwood, and considerably less excitement about running another AP. I was only interested in two and PatheticWretch can't be in one and CariMac can't in the other. And my interest was less than the two other games anyway. So...

I'm going to run Options 1 or 2. There's not a huge difference in enthusiasm for the two, so I'm going to give it a think and make a decision by tonight. Thanks for the input!

Mirko, I know you said you were only interested in Pathfinder. Sorry! If I can convince you to try the other game (whatever it is), that'd be nice, but no worries. I know you're busy what with the offspring and all! Enchanter Tim, same deal if we go Tolkien: love to have you with us, no hard feelings if not.

Okay! So I dithered back and forth, in love with both concepts and feeling like a nerd version of Sophie’s Choice. But then I read that there will be a new edition of The One Ring out in 2021 and that helped me make my choice. I’ll start a game of The One Ring when I have the new edition in hand.

And that means I’m going to start a new Pulp Cthulhu campaign now!

I hope several of you will join me. I’m going to do a bit more research and preparation over the weekend and I’ll have a recruitment thread up in a few days.

The Recruitment Thread is up. You're all invited. If you're going to play in the game, please pop in there and accept the invitation.

Thanks for helping me noodle this through!
