Oh I’m sure there will be no end to the number of homages used in this AP. Some that immediately jump to mind are Dirty Harry Callahan, Special agent L Gibbs, Sonny Crockett, Chris Cagney, Mary Beth Lacey (or Kate Moore), Olivia Bensen, Sherlock Holmes, maybe even a Fox Mulder or Dana Scully and I expect a ton of PIs as well (lookin at you Thomas Magnum). Some literary names jump to mind like Hercule Poirot but im not sure if their imagery is unique enough to make them recognizable (outside the name). Many of them are more known for the setting/story the author put them in rather than their own theme and personality. For the more light-hearted, there is Frank Drebin, Ace Ventura, or if you are fast enough on your “feet” Arthur Dietrich from Barney Miller fame (one of my personal favorites). A quick google search for law enforcement or private investigators will take you down a rabbit hole you may not be prepared to enter :-D
Personally, if I get to play in one, I’ll probably lean towards either Columbo (a very popular choice), Kojak, or perhaps Colt Seavers, or given the nature of the fantasy setting Kolchak, while technically a news reporter not a cop, would make for an excellent theme.

I want to play a hard boiled potato Leshie investigator working The Puddles of Absalom. Some spuds would go soft in all that water. Rotten to the core. But not Sogwell Spude. Also, Speak with Kindred would let me interrogate plants at the scene of the crime. Tell me what you saw! I know you're hiding something! Oh, a healing potion! nice!

Yes, but he’s very similar to most private investigators depicted so it could work depending on how you are running tha campaign

I probably won't be running this one - too many adventures not enough time - but someone in another thread mentioned the idea of a shoony tiefling vigilante ("Nothing escapes the keen nose of Hell Hound!") and that's priceless enough I almost want to find a way to play it. Might have to make an NPC homage...

Hellhound getting a life beyond my punny post would make me unspeakably happy.

Interestingly, a mutagenist alchemist works significantly better at enhancing the investigative (cognitive mutagen [lesser], eagle eye elixir, serene mutagen [lesser] at 1st; cat's eye elixir, comprehension elixir [lesser], darkvision elixir [lesser] at 2nd; etc.) and social interaction (silvertongue mutagen [lesser] at 1st; infiltrator's elixir at 2nd; etc.) aspects than at boosting combat capability.

What are your thoughts about playing a ranger in this campaign? Reading more into the Player's Guide, yes, the nature aspect appears to not be used much at all, but I see some potential benefits.
1. Hunt Prey - I'd like to think it can be useful in the city.
2. Twin Takedown: You can use saps to get multiple agile attacks in fights.
3. Flurry for Hunter's Edge: with the nonlethal aspect of the campaign, using saps means your MAP is 0/-2/-4
Combine this with the Grizzled Muckrucker background, which makes you trained in Survival and gain Experienced Tracker, that appears to be a nice Lvl 1 start. Am I thinking too much?

Granar Callago: half-orc (full orc?) monk. An amateur pugilist who dabbled in leg-breaking for a street gang, but got kicked out when he refused to attack a civilian who "wasn't in the game." Got beaten up and imprisoned, but took the opportunity to join the Edgewatch to get outside again (and maybe keep the dangers of crime away from those who don't sign up for it). No stranger to violence, but has never killed or caused any permanent injuries. Granar is jovial when off duty, but definitely has some wrong ideas about how to properly keep the peace in Absalom.
Elenor: elf wizard (divination) who has a strong sense of justice and the rights of others (read a lot of Andoran/Galt philosophies). Quickly grew tired with being paid to do petty scrying on cheating spouses and envious merchants, she jumped at the opportunity to put her magic to use and Do Good. Exactly the kin of person you want to be an officer of the law, but her zeal can make it hard for her to flex even if she consciously recognizes its the best course of action.
Tonrazza: gnome bard and failed politician. Believes the smallfolk of Absalom need a greater presence in the city's government and lawmaking. Tried to get into Absalom politics but without a network of connections he couldn't get onto his district council. Edgewatch seems like a good place to help people and maybe if it goes well could springboard him back into municipal politics.

He wasn't a detective, he was a part-time bounty hunter when not working as a stuntman.

This seems like a thread worth resurrecting.
I'm almost always the GM for my group, but for this campaign I finally get to be a player. That means two things:
- I'm playing a character I've wanted to play for years, rather than one that best fits the AP (specifically a Cleric of Shelyn).
- I don't mind making the GM's life hard, because he (like all my players) soundly deserves it.
So I'm not playing an Edgewatch Agent at all. I'm playing a local Cleric of Shelyn/Hobbyist PI, based (very, very loosely) on the character of Father Brown. I'll just coincidentally keep showing up where the actual Agents are and inserting myself into the investigation whether they want me there or not. Maybe I'll occasionally run off to do my own investigation and get myself captured.

I'm thinking of a champion of Pharasma, ardent over the destruction of undead, one a noble son and acolyte of the temple, but drummed or did to his expressing his opinions. Now starting over in the guard figuring that he can start at the bottom and work his way up.
Also considering a chiriogen alchemist who specializes in undercover work.
Lastly a goblin witch who continual gets into trouble. He was once a lamp lighter. Then became a guard at the post gate, now transferred to Edgewater.
I'm really having trouble coming up with a solid character concept...
Any suggestions or ideas?

Ten years ago at the World Wound, a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum-security stockade to the Absalom underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem... if no one else can help... and if you can find them... maybe you can hire... Ye Agent Teame.
Or Police Academy.
