Daywalker spell and vampires

Rules Questions

The Daywalker spell looks and sounds like a perfect spell for vampires to, well, walk in the daylight. Even the name is probably a reference to Blade. The spell says:

Daywalker wrote:
If the undead has the frightful presence, incorporeal, light blindness, light sensitivity, stench, sunlight powerlessness, or unnatural aura abilities, the spell suppresses them.

The problem is that a vampire does not actually have any of those. In vampire weaknesses it is just mentioned that they are destroyed by sunlight in 2 rounds.

Does this spell actually help vampires at all?

I'd say no. It suppresses those abilities it doesn't protect from sunlight.

The Darkness spell works ok for a vampire just walking in daylight. It has some other obvious issues though.

The usual spell for this is protective penumbra. It would still behoove the vampire to remain in the shadows as much as possible, though, otherwise folks might notice the strange shadow over a creature that otherwise ought to be brightly lit.

Thank you, not good news for the vampire PC in my WotW campaign :D

You might let the vampire wear a swarmsuit in daylight. It takes "direct sunlight" to hurt a vampire, which is very open to interpretation.

Get it as a tattoo for 24,000gp...

The tattoo does seem like it would be a critical investment for any vampire.

You expose the vampire to sunlight. It writhes for a moment as a portion of the creature dissolves into the air forming a hazy cloud about them and then.... nothing else happens and the vampire smiles at you. "You didn't think it would be that easy did you?"

That is seriously good item. Too bad they don't have anyone with Inscribe Tattoo feat.

I would not let that help, otherwise the same argument could be said about almost any sufficiently covering clothing or armor, rendering the vampire weakness totally moot. The vampire template is already freaking powerful, bypassing the one major flaw with clothes makes it even more powerful. With spells or tattoos there is at least a possibility for the weakness to come in to play.

The sunlight weaknesses is mostly about passing as a normal person. It’s very rare for a vampire to die that way, since they just have to go inside when the sun is up. Walking around outside in a swarmsuit is sure to draw attention to the fact that you aren’t normal. The same could be said for protective penumbra.

If a swarmsuit were sufficient, why not full plate armor, or a sufficiently thick full-body robe? Or do what a certain Billy Idol lookalike did and throw a blanket over your head if it's only a quick jog.
