Fun observation about champions of Torag

Pathfinder Second Edition General Discussion

So, in the core rulebook, Torag is given as an example of how a deity's anathema might conflict with that of a champion's code. This is reiterated in Gods and Magic. Thing is, champions of Torag can't be neutral good in the first place, so this is irrelevant. Paizo's editors managed to miss this twice.

What is the problem ? I haven’t spotted it in what you have said. Champions don’t have to be neutral good so it doesn’t matter that Torag can’t have neutral good champions

I might have missed something

Think meant that Torag given as example but Torag example invalid as he can't have redeemers in first place.

Champion's Code, CRB page 106 wrote:
Deities often add additional strictures (for instance, Torag’s champions can’t show mercy to enemies of their people, making it almost impossible for them to follow the redeemer cause).

I don't have G&M, but this line is in the CRB, so I see what they mean. It is explicitly calling out that Torag and the Redeemer clause might not get along, while Torag can't have Redeemers anyways so it's a bit of a moot point.

It could also be a future proofing sort of thing, like the expand the option to be a redeemer without being Neutral good at some point. Sure it's not possible now, but it could change in the future.

3 people marked this as a favorite.

It appears that a follower of the Dwarven Pantheon, with Torag as their patron, can be an NG redeemer bound by the anathema of Torag.

But Pantheons are supposed to be the sort of thing where the player and the GM "make it work".

For pantheon don't still need a main patron out them so Torag would be invalid as patron for going as Dwarven Pantheon.

The Pantheon rules say a worshiper of a pantheon "must uphold the ideals of both their patron deity and the pantheon" which is up to interpretation as far as whether that includes alignments.

Like you can definitely make a case for a LN follower of the Godclaw to have Asmodeus as his patron.
