Recharging magical staff without being a spellcaster

Advice

Anyone aware of a way to do this, without 'hiring' or 'asking' (or anything that requires involving) another spellcaster to do it for you? I want to have a character that uses staves with UMD and don't want to have to shell out massive amounts of gold for new staves.

Thanks

No.

There’s a few staves that have specific recharge rules that don’t require a spell caster, but I’m not aware of a general method that works for any staff.

Even prior to the last SLA-for-prereqs FAQ using SLAs to recharge staves would have been iffy, but you might be able to talk your GM into it.

I recommend that you switch to wands. Staves are a little bit more expensive than equivalent wands (much more if you add other spells to the staves), wands have more charges, and staves take plenty of down time to recharge (assuming you meet the prerequisites for recharging).

Do you have a list of these? I've only been able to find the Spark Staff with a recharge mechanic outside of spellcasting, though I did exclude artifacts from my list.

spark staff, monstrification staff, and staff of the magi were the three that popped into my head.
