Trying to remember old school D&D item

Rules Questions

I remember a magic item back in 1st or 2nd Ed D&D - it was a belt with a bunch of small pouches, each of which was a mini bag of holding. It was for magicusers to carry material components.

IIRC, when reaching into a pouch, whatever item you were looking for was automatically on top.

Does anyone else remember this, and what it was called?

girdle of many pouches

3rd Edition also had the Belt of Many Pockets which appeared in the book "Complete Arcane."

It would automatically allow the wearer to reach into the correct pouch to retrieve whatever was desired, though it wasn't necessarily always on top of the contents of the pouch it was in, I believe.

Also had some potentially interesting interactions with familiars.

Liberty's Edge

It was a great item for wizards at a time when there wasn't the spell component pouch that in some mysterious way can keep every component needed separated and ready to be used.

10 pouches, each of which had nine behind them, each of 1 cubic foot.
There was a weight limit for each pouch, but I can't recall it, and one pouch could, I believe, be "safely" used as a home for your familiar.

Back in the early days, it was called the Girdle of Many Pouches.

Our party had two of them, and carried all our loot (that could fit) in them. I think they were particularly handy for spell components.

Here's a LINK to a Google reference with XP cost and price...

Dark Archive

Girdle of Many Pouches, Heward's Handy Haversacks and Darts of the Hornet's Nest were some of our favorite 'must have' items, back in the day.

Sadly only the Haversack made the jump.
