Aasimar Wings

Rules Questions

So I had an idea for either a PC or NPC that is a Aasimar Souldrinker. I wanted to give him Angelic Blood,Flesh and Wings as well as all 4 damnation feats.

Here is where my question comes in: per Flesh and wings it says the natural weapons (wings in this case) will be treated as Cold iron. Is there a way to make the wings sized for a large creature but have the actual Aasimar be medium. If so besides the size modifier on fly checks what would be the legal way to treat these massive “cold iron” wings as a shield bonus to AC, only when actively using them to block as well as grant some type of concealment. I know as a GM I could house rule it to treat as a tower shield only when fighting defensively but I want the legal way should I decide to make this as a player.

Also Would there be other modifiers I’m not thinking of to other skills/checks by being medium with large wings?

Well, the wings are treated as cold iron with respect to what kind of damage reduction they bypass. The wings are still made of flesh and blood.

Having your wings be larged sized doesn't do anything, mechanically, because there is nothing to tell you what they would do. And they certainly don't allow you to use them as a shield, because there is nothing that says it has that effect.

So, the answer to your question is: By the rules, it's a big ball of nope.

You could start to house rule lots of things, but I'm not sure I can recommend that.

I think he forgot to mention the metallic wings feat, which actually does make the wings metallic, or at least the feathers on the wings.

The improved Natural Attack feat could be flavored to increase the size of the wings. It's not like it ever says how big the wings are in the first place.

I don't think there's anyway to turn it into a shield bonus though. You could get an amulet of mighty fists with defending on it, and flavor it that way, but it wouldn't be a shield bonus.

Even in the case of metallic wings feat, it doesn't shield him.

There are ways to make things kind of simulate create a defensive barrier with wings. But the size of the wings wont really matter, and it wont be directly turning the wings into a "shield" either. The defending enchant is the closest I can think of as well.

But if all the OP is after is flavor, then just flavor it as using your wings to take the blows. It mechanically has no effect.

The feat to get a larger set of wings is Powerful Wings. It also gives you 2 natural secondary attacks 1 sized larger than you are.

POWERFUL WINGS

I believe it's a monster feat, so you's normally have to ask the GM before assuming you could take this feat. In this particular case it's probably a moot point though.

I'm not sure of a way to get the shield bonus. The TWO WEAPON DEFENCE feat is maybe somewhere to look for inspiration.

For the shield there is this spell.

There is also the 3p feat, Dragon Wing Shield, but it only works with Dragon Disciple.

* side note: monster feats are just like regular feats. I don't get why some GMs house rule that monster feats can't be gained by PCs.

Because of this blurb in horror adventures:

Horror Adventures Page 78 wrote:
Monster feats were introduced in Pathfinder RPG Bestiary, though without a separate tag (all feats in Bestiary are monster feats except Craft Construct). Most of these feats apply specifically to monsters and might grant abilities that could be disruptive in the hands of PCs, although with the GM’s permission PCs can take one of these feats if they meet the prerequisites.

It explicitly takes GM permission to take them.

Yes it would be flavor more then actually a shield bonus and keeping with the rules of a defending weapon the bonus would only work when actually blocking so that works.

So feat wise Angelic Blood, Flesh and Wings. Metallic wings, Powerful Wings if I want the flavor theme in my head as well as the 4 damnation feats (plus fiendish obeisance & great fortitude) So is the only way to get this many feats a Fighter? Ultimately I’d like this character to be a soul drinker but means I need two spell levels of necromancy. The casting with be extremely minor if any and not a focus point of character unless it is a Spell like ability from Drinker class. Theme is this “fallen angel” nihilistic specializing in fighting with his wings (maybe a scythe) and draining souls.

Fighter 7/Wizard3/SD 10?

I would say that metallic wings (2 1d4 S wing attacks) would be redundant if you take powerful wings (2 1d6 B wing attacks).

Personally, I feel like Metallic Wings needs some type of buff, at this point it's no more that a newb trap.

Good point normally . However I need both for I want actual metal wings but one size larger.

Why? Why are you this focussed on the size category of the wings?

I assume it just fits the flavor in his head better. The end result will be odd as you'll have 2 attacks on the same limb. Meaning that you could choose to use each wing as a 1d4 slashing or a 1d6 bludgeoning from round to round.

Personally, I'd just flavor your metallic wings to be rather large. I don't think you need powerful wings for that.

Yes more flavor then mechanically but looking as the non combat aspects of Powerful wings is perfect. I’m not looking for a Min/Max. +5 defending metallic wings think Marvel’s Archangel without the ability to launch feather blades. A better flyer then most (Powerful wings) made of metal (Metallic wings), he used them as offensive slashing weapons and could shield with them (amulet)

If you want to throw your wings, you could try to add sharding to your amulet of mighty fists. But combined with defending, you'd be eating up a lot of your bonus.

Instead of flavoring your wings as larger, you could flavor them as being colored like metal. After all angelic flesh does make your skin color to be metallic.

Garuda-blooded Aasimars can already have that so it's not too far off to extended it to other Aasimars.
