My boy and I watched the first episode yesterday (after watching the original movie). I liked it. Visually stunning. An intriguing bunch of plot points, a little different from what I was expecting, though. The voice cast is awesome. The expansion of the world, especially focusing on the Gelfling culture and various clans, was really cool.

As you watch you also see Skesis culture as well. Its rather interesting.

Dark Crystal was never for small children - the Skeksis have always been complete nightmare fuel.
We are up to the Hunter/Archer Epdisode and I like it, even though I still have a Problem with the Gelfling Aesthetic.
My favourite is the Podling Paladin - and I fully expect the series to kill him off in order to make me cry.

Found the first episode a bit slow, mainly because they had a lot of worldbuilding to set up. 2nd episode was much better, world building is out of the way so on to the plot.
and a little reminder of just how horrible the Skeksis are even to each other. Horrible nasty things all dressed up in silk and gold. The contrast of that is just perfect. Almost feel bad for the scientist
and I love how they think so little of the Podlings they don't even care that the little buggers over hear every evil plan they have.

With Episode 3 they have opened the door on the idea of multiple timelines, which means the series need not be on a collision course with the origiinal movie. That was probably the one thing about the series that bugged me, for the movie to happen the end of the series had to be bad. Now the Movie may or may not be the ultimate end for the story.
Also Poddling Paladin FTW!

Finished watching the season. It was....interesting. I liked seeing the origin of the Garthim, but I wonder how they can make more. I recall the earlier revelation the two Gruenaks were the last of their kind. One got thrown into the shaft of fire, and they used the other to make Garthim #1. So, unless they have more hidden away somewhere, they'll have to come up with some other way to create more.
I'm left wondering which of the gelfling characters are meant to be the parents of Jen and Kira. I actuallly hope the answer is...none. Might be more interesting that way.

The Garthim reveal was ok, I had actually forgotten about the guys. The one thing bothering the wife an me was - how do you go from spider plus frog guy to giant crab with caterpillar feet? And the additions do not look very mechanic. But it was a suitable gut punch mirroring the success of the first stages of the Rebellion.
It is strange that I connect way better to their muppets than to the Gelflings. Both Hup and the Gruenaks stirred more emotional Response in me than any of the Gelflings. They do great work with them, but they are still too uncanny valley for me.
Also, my wife really liked Deet having two Daddys, just as a random aside. That kind of inclusion is the best Kind, not annoying anyone and still making a point, even on Thra :)
Still wary about how they want to go from here (and if they should). This ended on a generally positive note, and we know that in the Long term the Crystal will be healed, but... Do they really want to go into the whole genocide thing and expect people to get their happy end from the movie? That would be harsh.
