Chariot of the Gods (Free League Alien RPG)

Recruitment

Interest check

I wished to see if anyone would be interested in playing Chariot of the Gods, the preview scenario for Alien RPG, released this week-end by Free League.

It is a Cinematic Play scenario.
Cinematic Play emulates the dramatic arc of an ALIEN film.
Designed to be played in a single session, this game mode emphasizes high stakes and fast and brutal play.
Conflict between player characters is likely, and you are not all expected to survive.
In fact, most of your PCs probably won’t live to see the end of the scenario.

Chariot of the Gods is a pre-generated scenario that provides all the tools necessary to run your first ALIEN roleplaying game, and it’s a fun and easy way to learn how to play and tell your own stories on the Frontier.

I would be the GM... the Game Mother.

"What's the story, Mother?"
________________________________________________________
The story is that...
You are space truckers on the starfreighter USCSS Montero, running “the Gauntlet”— the trade route between Anchorpoint Station and the Frontier. Your ship’s cargo hold is packed with dozens of tanks
of the rare gas Helium-3.
Usually cargoes such as these are towed in massive tanker modules that transport much higher concentrations of the gas a safe distance from a freight hauler.
The Montero isn’t rated as a commercial towing vehicle, however, and this small run is a special order for a Weyland-Yutani corporate account on Sutter’s World—a newly established Frontier colony.
While the trip so far has been fairly routine, the Montero’s sensors developed a glitch before you left Anchorpoint and sporadically pinged contact with a sensor reflection before you activated the dis- placement drive and went FTL.
Your cargo run so far has been without incident.
Now, you are just awakening from hypersleep, ready to deliver your goods to the colony of Sutter’s World.

If some are interested, I will see about setting this up...

Just a bump to check if any interest...

What's the format, PbP or live session?

Sounds interesting, but you are basically saying... Come and Die.

Do you play the scenario over and over trying different things?

And, as RPGs are a creative outlet for many, does pre-generated mean the player picks or is assigned a character/role and is not building one?

Lots of questions!

Hello...

It will be PbP.

Come and be confronted with a fair chance of dying yes, but only the player knows that, not the character, poor thing.
And, there is always hope of making it out alive.

In this case, the game is released in December, but they have released a pretty big pre-game .pdf, with one scenario, that one can play once (and replay if interested to, I imagine).
And pre-generated characters to pick from.

There are no creation rules yet, anyhow.

As for the Come and Die, the Alien RPG will have two modes of play, with some different rules for both.
There will be a Campaign mode, where you build your character and adventure over time and through scenarios.
And the Cinematic Mode, which is what this game will be (and the only mode explained in the pre-pdf), that is more deadly, yes, closer to the Alien franchise films (and has pre-gen characters made for the specific stories).

Those were answers... I hope?

I might be interested in this. I don't know the rules but my friends were actually talking about trying it out so this might be a good way to learn.

Do you have a copy of the rules to share or a link where players can read them? I'd be fine playing a pregen character.

How many players is the scenario designed for?

The scenario is designed for 3 to 5 players.

I do not know of any link to the .pdf.
Will have to give some rule info and present them.
But it is not very rule-heavy.

Liberty's Edge

I will not try to run it here, since not enough people interested.

I am interested if you're willing to change your mind, Eric.

I'd definitely be interested. I'm trying to get a session for my friends setup over roll20 or something like that. Would love to try it out

I'm yur huckleberry.

(I have no problems with a pre-gen dying, so long as it's stated beforehand, which it has. ^_^)

Hi all, sorry for belated answer.
I was not checking this thread since I thought there were only two people possibly interested.
But I got a PM from our Huckelberry (thanks).

So, let me look into this this week-end and set it up to try and get things starting to roll next week.

I'll PM those who posted before if they do not post again here, but, in the meantime: who is still interested?

Dark Archive

Hey, have any of you played the Aliens deck-building game?

It is...a lot like this. You play cooperatively, against the scenario, and victory is less than assured.

This seems to be almost the same thing. =p

Sorry, phoneposting right now.

Still keen. Whats the best medium to do it over?

Hi!
I was going to do it here in PbP, with Slides for maps etc., as I run the other games here.
But still only two (albeit different!) people interested, so I will give up on trying to run it...
(((
Bleh
Sorry
Best

I'm still around if this picks up, let me know.

And I'm pretty sure Branding Opportunity is still on board, because she's down like that.

I'll go PM her now.

I'm still here (and am a "he" FYI).

Really? (Your avatar looks like a female. That isn't some kind of Shiva? Or Hecate? Or Selene?)

The creature is a "beatific one" asura, aka an upasunda. I just thought they were cool and wasn't too concerned about the gender.

You can pick whatever you want.

I'm just saying, that the full-body that you linked to looks HAWT. ;)
