There does seem to be a lot of positive noise about PF 2e, but at present, I'm saving up for the DCC Lankhmar boxed set...

I have the AD&D 1e box. I've had it for 20 years, at least.

I also still have my copy of the 1e "Deities and Demigods" with the Lankhmar pantheon. I'm proud to say it's still in near-mint condition, except for a "this belongs to" sticker on the inside of the front cover. I know that ruins collectability, but I didn't get it for that reason. I got it because the guy who owned it was selling it and a bunch of other stuff back in 1986 and I offered him $10 for it and a LOT of other stuff and his wife made him accept the offer. She HATED his friends (us) because we took his attention from her so she just wanted us out of the house.

Two things, one our DM MIGHT end up with a TPK since he quickly realized that even with 8 12th level PCs, it might not be a smooth ride to fight our way into Fire Giant land.
So he brought back the Frost Giant Jarl Graveknight, who is flying a (age not determined but generally believed to be at least older than Adult) White Dragon, two Tomb Giants And the Oracle of Bones Cyclops.
I did a quick CR calculator. That's a CR 17 according to most estimates. Maybe this is time I get a new PC...Or our only surviving PC from the start of the campaign MIGHT be die. We'll see. I mean death IS a status effect lately...

Well, I think *someone* is going to die in that, but 8 12ths is a double party. Think of it as a group of 4 14ths with increased action economy. That makes a CR 17 tough, but not unreasonable. Factor in the fact that they aren't 14th, and it's likely that 1/8th of the party takes a dirt nap. But this is a lot of giants we're talking about, so it's a pile of hit points that can't avoid anything and isn't particularly strong of will either. Grease, pit spells, web, all that kind of stuff should do good work to slow things down and let the 8 party members wail on one or two things at a time.
And try to knock down that flyer.

Heh. Manticore. That brings up another gaming story...
As part of some loot from a Very Bad Person, we found a scroll of animate dead. My priest of Nethys tucked it away. It was practically a theological obligation that he use it. He waited a while for the right test subject. And, when we killed a manticore, I knew the time had come for...
MANTICORPSE!
My poor GM...

It gets better.
We wind up having to fight in a battle arena pretty much exactly like Bartertown. And because our reputation was so awesome, the pitboss herself, a heavily armored troll, decided to take us on herself.
I'm not going to lie--we got really lucky. We dropped her like a sack of non-regenerating scorched concrete. What came next though...
Me and the Manticorpse grab her body. We fly above the crowd. Buzzing low in circles round the assembled thugs and monsters, the pitboss's viscera trailing behind us.
"Come on," my friend says. "Stop trolling the crowd."

I was so sad when the GM started sending paladins after the "horrible necromancer" and I had to put Manticorpse down. I tried explaining it was just to use magic like my god demanded, I wasn't into necromancy per se, but hell hath no fury like a GM whose player gets a taste for undead-themed puns (I don't think it's a coincidence that the paladins showed up right after I created the world's first xilleton).

Yeah, I get that. I decided to not allow Paladins, Anti-Paladins, or Gunslingers. The latter because they don't fit the feel of my homebrew world and the two formers because if a player gets hold of one the whole campaign spins down the toilet.
EDIT: I love both of those classes. My first original AD&D character was an Anti-Paladin that I played for years. But in those same years I saw players, my GM included, have Paladins commit actual atrocities in the name of "Good" and the Anti-Paladins committing good deeds with no retribution on the part of their respective deities.

That is a fast monkey,...
I have only had one 'Group' that I have ever played with consistently, when we used to get play. My college friends. We still play together online when we can, (not often, but I take what I can get)
Yeah, we learned what each of us did and didnt like, and there wasnt a lot of cross over ;P but we had some very fun and interesting groups of characters.
At one point, I started what turned into a years-long debacle of pun-slinging. Sometimes we had contests to see who could pun the best/worse, sometimes they just ganged up on me in game and IRL whenever I started,... ;P
Ah,... man I miss being put in the punitentiary. :D

I used to ban Paladins, but then I stopped playing with my brothers and all the problems disappeared, also the wife and kids hate paladins (and clerics) so my gaming life is a lot easier.
Of course, now there's 2nd edition where they finally fixed paladins so I no longer ban them.
Naturally my brothers won't touch it (which only makes it better) so I've got that going for me. :-)

They've changed the name to Champion, altered the alignment restriction, and replaced it with a choice of alignment-based causes - Core Rulebook only has Good ones. LG is Paladin; NG is Redeemer; CG is Liberator.
Honestly not sure how to feel about it. Paladin's always been one of my favorites, and I've always liked the idea of "This is the person willing to take that last stand and draw a line." Which just...doesn't scream Neutral to me. I think corners would've made more sense if they were going to open it up, but w/e. I'm not on their design payroll.

Just kidding, I'm at work so I can't really get into it right now, but later I will (if someone else doesn't).
I would've just looked it up on an srd once it was made anyway =)

Also, neither Champions nor Rangers can cast spells anymore.

Champions do they're just called something else like focus spells, also at first level you can choose to take a cleric domain and gain more focus spells that way.
I always thought rangers casting spells in 3rd edition and beyond was kind of silly, blame Drizz't and Aragorn for that.
Edit: They're called devotion spells, they're in the focus spells section starting on page 300.
