Well, crap. So sorry to hear about the hassles.

Yes sorry to hear about that. Right now my only thing is having my brother's high school reunion this weekend because I was hoping he and I could spend a little time hanging out. Not that we have ALL that much in common...but still!

Good news is even though it feels like 90+ Fahrenheit, it's very nice and cool in my room.

This is perfect for my side campaign! You've done it again!

Worst case scenario happened. Best we can get is 10k back, barely covering the expenses put in to get the house ready for sale. Got some hard thinking to do this weekend.

After some discussion, we went with the offer just to be done with it all. We still get money back to pay off expenses. It’ll just take longer to knock off the rest of the debt. (Having my brother and our friend contributing rent will be a big help.)

Awesome!

Grand Lodge

And our schedules overlap just right to allow someone to be home at all times of the day. Now we just need to do the right things to close the deal on the new house.

Dammit. My son was due to move out starting tomorrow. But he just came home from being on the road with his band after some gigs were canceled by the venues. So for a 3-day road trip, they netted $100 apiece. He's really upset about it and so am I. He was only moving to the other half of the duplex where I live but man I was hoping to get my solitude back. I love my son, don't get me wrong. But I moved out from his mom's 6 and a half years ago so I would have the space I needed, both for physical space and my much hammered emotional space.

Ah well.

So, uh, howdy?

Good morning, everyone!

I suppose it is morning. I'm reserving judgement on the good part.

Well, we can hope that it's a good morning, anyway.

Hope is a good thing. Effort to encourage the Universe to go along never hurts either.

Hello and stuff!

I'm sleepy. I can't seem to get un-sleepy.

Have you tried counting screaming lambs?

Nope, but it goes on the bucket list.

I have a suggestion for unwanted sleepiness, you can probably guess what it is.

THE SLEEPY MUST AWAKEN!

So arguing with the ex will take away sleepiness. So there's that.

So yesterday was...weird.

Let me preface this by saying I've been with these particular group of people for now over 4-5 years. So naturally things have changed up. Some of the people I regularly gamed with have moved on or had life changes that made gaming more difficult for them. Others just left the state entirely. So it's nice to have a kind of core group of people that I've know (not necessarily deeply but fairly well) to play Pathfinder and to just try stuff out.

Last week one of our players (let's call her Naomi) let us know she was leaving. Naomi has had a fair number of relationships that result in said significant other joining our group for times. Her current romantic partner, (we'll call her Bobbi), has had a tough home life...but it seemed like they both genuinely cared for each other. Until Naomi let us via Facebook know that she was leaving because she felt...I guess smothered by Bobbi and thus had to leave our group and state to get away from Bobbi. Naturally we were all disappointed as we've ground to like Naomi a lot. She's been kind of the newer one of us...but she helped us find our stride, as a gaming group.

So fast forward to this past Saturday. Our usual GM/DM had a personal reason that meant he couldn't run. So...as I've served as GM/DM a couple times before, I volunteered. Mostly because Naomi was upset she wouldn't get to say goodbye to us.

So there I was, ruminating about the best way to run a one shot that would a) memorable but also b) quick. With some inspiration from Strange Aeons, I decided to have the PCs bodily go into the Dreamlands. So that was my initial premise coupled with the idea of having the PCs find themselves near the Gates of Ivory and Horn. (If you want to know more about that, Google is your friend...and master)

ANYWAY so while I didn't expect Bobbi to bring her roommate (even though Bobbi had said before she wanted to bring her in (we'll call the room-mate Shelby), I wasn't expecting it until Naomi mentioned it to me that Saturday night on Facebook. I was expecting something else...in terms of Bobbi (who has little to no experience in fantasy roleplaying or fantasy ANYTHING save watching Xena and enjoying Greek myths) saying that Shelby was a huge fantasy fan...but it turns out she too had never played ANY role playing games. (She did like the movie version of Lord of the Rings...so there was that.)

Anyways so when the PCs found themselves in the Dreamlands, one of the player tried to convince Naomi's character to walk through one of the gates. Now I should point out that Bobbi was in a little bit of state...but even so, I should have seen it coming IN ANY case... So Bobbi's character charged right through the Gate of Horn (which I slightly modified to be Obsidian but still!) She was then teleported (because I decided the gate COULD in fact lead to different locations on different planes) into Xibalba. (Land of Dread and kind of Nightmares made sense to me!) So yeah...they ended up there after some debate, fought a Wihsaak sahkil, and then proceeded to be eaten/tormented by their deepest fears by the land...just because.)

It wasn't what I was expecting, honestly...but there you are.

I hate that you're losing a good player. That's never a fun thing to experience. But it does sound like you handled things pretty well. My game just sort of stumbled and tripped on its own feet until it was over. We've switched over to the Wounds and Vigor hitpoint variant and the bad guys and monsters have Wound/Vigor points just like the players do. This didn't sit well with one of the guys. But the rule stands.

Is it chloroform? I bet it's chloroform.

I'm not fond of using a system that I feel is more like Champions than D&D...but that's me, Cal.

I handled things okay mostly because I didn't have much of a choice. :p
I mean if I had the Infinity Gauntlet, then things might have been different.

Van,

It's probably nitrous oxide.

We're just giving it a go in the side campaign we have going (the one I enjoy most, tbh). But he is also the same guy who kept badgering me to use crit/fumble charts and when I said they applied to PCs as well as NPCs he suddenly changed his tune.

mmm...nitrous.

Funny enough, I can't have nitrous oxide. It makes my nose and lungs burn.

Which means every time I go to get dental work done it has to be with injected local anesthetic at best, full total anesthesia if it's anything more extensive than a root canal.

That's too bad, Orthos. It's a great little ride...LOL

Maybe belting yourself on the forehead with a sledgehammer?

Ya know, people always say things like that, or "Knock yourself out!" when someone proposes doing a task. Let me tell ya, I HAVE knocked myself out and it doesn't live up to the hype.

Oh, in brighter news, we had a wild game last night. Our party realized we needed to prepare to face down an enemy dragon, so my halfling vigilante has been retraining some less useful feats to be able to use Stealth easier. (He's not the tank the warpriest of Cayden is.) Unfortunately, this dragon was not going to wait, so halfway through the retraining period it drops in on our party as we are out and about.

I proceed to biff saves against the breath weapon and subsequent fireball spell, bringing me to 1HP. My usual hit and run tactics are NOT sufficing as the dice are unkind and rolls of about 30-32 are not even breaking the mirror images. The fight was made worse by our swashbuckler having to take off early to help her sister with a flat tire. So the bard is working overtime to keep buffs going and blast with weird words (love that sound Striker) while the witch is healing and trying to land offensive spells. Once again the dice betray on SR checks.

After harassing the bard and getting distracted by the warpriest, the dragon finally gets tired of my spring attack shenanigans and moves in. Natural 20 on the bite, easily confirms against my AC. I'm at -45 and pretty sure no one can reach me to help, when my brother reminds us we do have a breath of life on demand thanks to plot. So I gladly use it to return to life at 1HP again and flip the dragon the bird.

Thanks to spring attack I am able to get separation from another attack and move the fight closer to the rest of the party. The tide finally turns with the warpriest able to get damage through faster and the bard finally ends the fight with about 7 rounds of bardic performance left. I don't recall making a since saving throw through the whole fight. We hustled back to base to rest up for the next objective. Auris told our fairie dragon ally that dampening your presence when you're dampening your trousers is a lot harder than the practice they'd been doing.

Doing okay, Cal, despite the heavy rain in Pittsburgh, right now. About to make some Grilled Cheese and Ham sandwiches for dinner.

Those sound pretty good, actually. I just got up to check my fridge and my ham AND my cheese are all gone!

Now that's not fair! I hope that you'll be able to correct that soon.

In related hammer news, Mjolnir is back and Thor can wield it! :)

Also I too have been hit with a hammer. It's not something I'd recommend, especially if you're lacking in the sleep department.

Mostly now I'm ready for a calm week as I have Thursday and Friday off from clients. Well all about the cat who likes to drink water out of the bath tub faucet.

Break it down
(Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh oh-oh)
(Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh oh-oh)
Stop.
Hammer time.

Grrr...the un-sleeping has descended upon me again! This is the third night in a row I've not been able to fall asleep. I managed to squeeze in about 2 hours yesterday morning. I find this to be unsatisfactory.

:(

A muscle relaxer and a shot of whiskey. I got 6 hours of sleep...LOL

Dogs were nice enough to let me nap after keeping me wake at 11 am. So now I'm slightly more refreshed at 3:33 pm than I was at 11:15.

Good dogs! My dogs keep acting like they want to walk and when we get harnessed up and outside they hear the thunder from the occasional pop-up showers in the area and want to come right back inside.

I'm a smidge punchy. I had the day off AND nothing pressing to do. I've taken four naps.

This could be the best day ever.
