Greetings all, I have chose to be a Cleric of Saranerae for my upcoming character. For first level I have taken the Healing domain, later on I will be taking the Light Domain. I will be in battle wielding my Deitys favored weapon the Scimitar. I have two questions:
1) Would it be advisable for me to wield a shield? Or do I just cast Shield? Or a different option?
2) Which spells are best (in general) for a Cleric (level 0-4 spells). Could I get some opinions on what you all feel are the top 5 spells at each of those levels.
Thanks all for your feedback. Paizo nice job on the latest patch some nice changes were made (ie allowing casting with hands occupied).

1) Sadly, Paizo actually broke it with the 1.6 update. While you can cast spells with somatic components without a free hand, you're still gimped if a spell calls for material components... and it just so happens that the best cleric spell in the game (3-action heal) calls for material casting components. So as it currently stands clerics are actually worse off than when they had a feat tax. If you're going with 1.5 or earlier you can just spend a feat on Emblazon Symbol and you're good to go.
2) Well, Sarenrae has a pretty poor list of deity spells so you don't have that much going for you in that respect. Bless can be okay if your party lacks a bard, Restoration is helpful for removing status, Dispel Magic can be a real life-saver, Sanctified Ground is great whenever you're on the defense against undead or fiends (which comes up a lot in Doomsday Dawn), and prepping more Heal spells is always helpful.

In regards to the first point UGH.

They also broke Paladins. Lay on Hands can trigger reactions (because Warded Touch is not a thing any more).
