Paladin Champion Powers - Missing in the Playtest Book

Classes

So...

They are supposed to be on page 192. They are not. So... What exactly are the Paladin's powers that we can't actually test yet? Heh.

Nevermind - Duh I found it.

This is a bit of a confusing layout here. So it should be made a little more clear that Champion powers are individual powers granted from taking class feats only and not like a spell list.

Must admit I only came here looking for these powers too. Will need to take a look at the pdf again, i was under the impression I had to go through all spell discriptions to find them, as lay on hands was there, but not in any spell lists. And lay on hands is the only one called out. :P

I am still really confused. For instance, there is a paladin feat called "Litany of Wrath" which lets you channel the power litany of wrath. But nowhere can I find what that litany actually does.

Do you mean Litany against Wrath?

A bunch of stuff like Domain Powers and Champion Powers are in the Spell section of the book, because there is something deeply wrong with whoever decided how the book was going to be laid out.

The paladin feat is "Litany AGAINST Wrath" and can be found on page 235.

Sorry, yeah. Litany against wrath. And thanks for the page number.

All powers were made in to spells for clarity and then put in the spell section. I am fine with them being spells but they should be in the class section just like class feats are in their appropriate sections. It's madness. Or at least separate them from the other spell lists instead of integrating them.

I came here to critique the fact that the book refers to page 192 to find the champion powers of the paladins, and there's no reference to champion powers on that specific page. HWalsh, if you have indeed found it, would you mind telling the rest of us who haven't where to look?

This is a significant problem, because it makes it very difficult to use champion power points (and the paladin class more generally) when you have no idea what you could spend them on. For example, lay on hands is nowhere to be found in the paladin section, though it is referenced multiple times as to how you can heighten or alter it with class feats.

Lay on Hands also shouldn't be such an easy power to miss as well. I also look forward to trying to get class specific powers put in the SAME SECTION as the class.

Agreed. There isn't much to be done against the deluge of spells (especially with 4 full casting lists- the only advantage for right now is there is way too much overlap. But that will fade as future books roll by).

But class powers don't need to be washed away in the flood.
Or be activated by 'spell points.' That just seems actively antagonistic to new players.

I am still completely confused about building a paladin. I don't know where the champion powers are supposed to be. =/

Paladins no longer have the spells and spells per day they once had. Paladins now have "Paladin Feats" which you gain as you level up, 1 feat @ lvl 1 and 1@ every even-numbered level. A few of these "Paladin Feats" give you the ability to cast special spells known as Champion Powers, spells/powers that are only available to paladins. For example, Paladin's Sacrifice(page 110), which is a 12th Level "Paladin Feat", lets you cast the -Paladin's Sacrifice Champion Power(page 243)- by spending 1 Spell Point from your Spell Point Pool. The description of this Champion Power, and possibly where the confusion begins, is located in the Spells chapter(page 192). These powers don't show up on a "Champion Powers list", but their descriptions are alphabetically listed among all the other spells in the "Spell Descriptions" section.

It says they are found in the Spells CHAPTER which does indeed start on page 192.

It is technically correct (the best kind of correct), but extremely unhelpful.

As John Vorhees points out, you only get Lay on Hands to start with, and have to get other Champion Powers via Paladin Feats which are then activated using the same spell point pool (usually a feat that gives you a new power will give you an additional point to your pool. Yay!)

I'm really liking the concepts and the mechanics so far. My real only vexation is the layout and presentation. Making a character is pretty confusing.

Wait... so there isnt even a "champion powers" list, you need to go through all the spells to find them?

Ouch. Guess i will make a list myself then at some point. Havent taken a look in a few days, but I also missed the part where you can pick these as class feats.

EDIT: okay, now I see how it works. They are listed under paladin feats. Then they tell you to check out the power later in the book.not as confusing as I initially thought.

ON WHAT PAGE can the Lay on Hand power be found!? Don’t point me toward a chapter, I need an actual page number. What about the rest of the champion powers, on WHAT PAGE can they actually be found!? Please be as specific as all your powers will allow, attach a photo with your finger pointing at the text, please help!

Spell descriptions, page 234, top of 2nd column:

Lay on Hands...................Power 1

prepare to be underwhelmed.

The rest of the powers are alphabetically organized with the spells. I'm not sure what more you need. Though obviously the various litanies are on the next page.
