Armor while wild-shaping

Advice

Hey folks,

I'm building a 7th level druid currently. I might have focussed a ... tad too much on Strength currently, so my wild-shaped tiger form would have an ac of 14. Not incredibly useful. Now, I did notice the spell has a duration of seven hours. And since I have Wild Speech and Natural Spell as feats I actually would not have to leave my wild shape any time soon. Therefore I figured, would the rules allow for it to have a set of Lamellar armor made and have someone put it on me after I'm wild shaped? Would that cost any extra?

Yes, you can put on armor while wild-shaped (or rather, since you don't have hands, someone can put it on you). You're still subject to the Druid restrictions on armor. And don't forget proficiency, armor check penalties, etc.

Also, remember that you are purchasing exotic armor for a non-humanoid large creature, so it's x4 cost and x2 weight.

You didn't give your stats and I assume you are an ordinary druid with the normal wildshape ability. Since you get -2 DEX and +4 Natural Armor when you wildshape into a large creature (like a tiger), I assume you have a 12 DEX normally since you say you only have AC14. Just mentioning it in case you forgot about the +4 Natural Armor.

I don't know all the details, but given your stuff basically fuses into your body when you Wild Shape, you're basically going to have someone else carry the armor, then take... I think a full-round action in order to get that armor put on your wild shape body. That would have to be a very, very good friend not just out of character but in-character, cause that sounds like cohort/minion work.

I suppose if you're focused mostly on your wild shaping, maybe look at instead of going Druid 7, consider Shifter 2/Druid 5? That would net you a WIS bonus to your AC without wearing any armor.

....Of course, I derped and remembered an important fact; your armor bonus to AC still applies to your AC, even while wild-shaped. So get that lamellar armor, put it on, then go absolutely nuts.

Thanks for the answers! I don't think your armor bonus still applies to AC while wild-shaped, because that's what Wild Armor is for at 9000gp.

I indeed have quite a low DEX for the character (he's old-aged, it's a rather non-optimized build for a oneshot). I figure I can convince some of my kind co-players to put it on me after I wildshape haha.

Yeah, you definitely don't get the bonus from armor applied to your AC while wildshaped, unless your armor has the Wild enhancement on it.

I'm not sure if this would be more cost effective than just putting wild on your armor.

But, You could see if your DM will let you get a barding equivalent of Folding Plate that you can wear while wildshaped. You could even get a polymorphic pouch to pop it into when you're not in animal form so that you don't have to rely on someone else carrying the amulet around for you.

Just an alternative: trade a spell for a spell. Get the arcane caster in the group to cast Mage Armor for you, you give them a Channel the Gift (3rd level spell) or another buff they might want in return? Considering what level you'd have to be that Mage Armor should last at least as long as your Wild Shape.
