I've never heard of Nightwish! It was for the falling.

Whenever someone falls down around me, I look over at them and say "Ugh," and then I walk away. It's great. People love it. I make lots of friends that way.

Never heard of Nightwish! Dude, you’re in for a treat. Not to mention your first Floorgasm. :-)

The plan is to start taking powerful antibiotics, which I am warned will play havoc with my stomach, in hopes of saving one of my teeth. Another trip to the dentist in November. Soon I will have spent a month's wages on these damn things.

I can relate. I have a sty beneath my eye that I've had surgically removed in the past, but it keeps trying to come back. The usual treatment didn't work (heating pad and eye scrubs), so I went to the eye doctor, who prescribed me an antibiotic pill, which made my stomach hurt and gave me GI issues for nearly two weeks. I hated it. They sty still tries to flare up, occasionally, but I don't want to deal with that medicine again.

Hey, everyone! Who's doing what this weekend?

No game here. Too many folks with unplanned events taking precedence. Stupid grown-up world.

Halloween is on Monday. So, there's that.

I was planning on hauling out a couple of old desktop computers, saving anything worthwhile, wiping them, and dropping them off at an electronics recycling place, but... there's so many other "projects" going on (and just general clutter), I can't find enough table or counter space to work on. There's not enough space for me to make space!

Shanna (my stepdaughter, I suppose) is going to her pal's house tomorrow, so I have to put down the flooring in her room, and also mop the mats in the basement which one of the cats has pissed on. Aside from that, I have some more Politics and PF2 on Sunday, and I also need a haircut and to visit the library on Saturday. Bugger all, aside from that.

What kind of computers? Even old ones could be an upgrade for me, if you'd send them my way.

Ye gads, I didn't realize today was Friday here at Sweet Home Calabama. No game this weekend for my bunch; as little as we've gotten to gather since COVID stole our fun the holiday season is upon us and gaming will be scarcer than rok's teeth.

How about all of you? What bacon is shakin' in your weekend?

Nothing much to speak of. Daylight savings is coming and/or going this weekend.

A whole lot of nothing here. Payday has come and I'm broke again after paying bills.

Were the weather not supposed to be absolutely awful, I would be scouring and repainting the railings and fate out front. As it is, a spot of music, some exercise, PF2 on Sunday, and as little else as I can get away with.

We have a night of storms in the forecast here, too. Up to 2 inches of rain and winds up to 50 mph. It's weather that I love but I also know it frightens people, given the propensity for tornadoes here.

The weekend looms before us. What do the coming days hold for you?

Looks like we're gonna run our delayed Halloween game this Saturday. I elected to make it more humorous this year. I had an utterly horrific set of ideas that I decided to not use as there will be some players new to my group and I didn't want to risk pushing the envelope until I know them better. I've been listening to a podcast called "Old Gods of Appalachia", an anthology-style horror podcast that feels like a mix of Lovecraft, Stephen King, and rural folk beliefs, a smattering of which I heard growing up (there is also a Kickstarter to release an rpg based on it). It was very tempting to build on that theme for the game, but I think what we're going to do will be fun.

Probably get a lot of Christmas shopping out of the way tomorrow. The last several years we've gotten almost all Christmas shopping done by December, just a few minor things and fresh foods to be gotten closer to time, and it really helps with the holiday spirit to not have to worry about things closer to the day.

Other than that, probably spend more time assembling and painting overpriced plasitc figures that I'll never play with. I should be spending more time getting ready for game night on Wednesday, but I doubt that will happen.

My wife's birthday is tomorrow, and a couple of her friends wanted to organize a night out for her, and I got roped into helping to plan that. So, we're going to dinner, and then we're going to a bar that has a lot of classic arcade games and pinball machines.

My son has joined his school's debate team, so we're going to take him to his school's debate tournament so he can see what that's like.

Also! My shower drain has started backing up! So I have get to deal with that!

Mostly just really small things, like how to douse for water (called "witchin' for water" by the old folks who practiced it). There is a dying tradition in the Appalachians of people healing sick folks and tending to wounds using magic, though they don't usually call it that. To the ones who still practice it, it's a gift from God. My paternal grandmother could remove warts by rubbing her thumb on them and reciting a particular Bible verse, though I don't remember which one. If she hadn't removed two from my right hand as a kid I wouldn't have believed it.

I also remember some home remedy recipes and practices for various things. There is a fuzzy weed called mullen that can be used to treat respiratory problems. Making sassafras tea in the spring as a sort of "tonic" to ward off allergies and such caused by pollen when the flowers first begin to blossom, and if you don't make it the right way it can be a pretty serious poison. I drank a lot of it growing up (it smells divine when the roots are boiling on the stove). Oh, and predicting the severity of winter using the shapes inside persimmon seeds. I've never really known this to be accurate, but a lot of older folks put a lot of stock in it.

Let's see, I remember a couple of others about weather. If you kill a snake and it finally comes to rest belly up after its death throes it means rain is coming, as does seeing leaves "turn upside down" when the wind blows through the trees.

Pretty interesting things, particularly looking back on them. I'm approaching senior citizen status and when I think about the old folks I knew growing up I get a little bit sad. So many of the things they believed in and just general knowledge is forgotten or even just ignored nowadays.

Every year I have intentions of getting all of my Christmas shopping done early, but good intentions and roads to hell and all that. Christmas is my favorite holiday and being able to go into it with less stress is a good thing.

Hitting the movies for Wakanda Forever Sunday afternoon, then heading home for the second session of Eyes part II. I think we should get through it just fine and not need a third session, which will give the party plenty of time to level to 13th for part III.

I remember being told stuff like you should always crush eggshells before throwing them away, else witches would use them to sail out to sea and sink ships, and that carrying a stone with a hole through it around with you prevents bad luck, and will preserve you from drowning if you carry it with you when going to sea yourself, or, if you hang it above your livestock, will prevent those pesky witches from riding them around at night, knackering them out and preventing them from doing Productive Livestock Things during the day. A stone with a hole through it has 1,000 uses, basically, and one should never be without three or four (and in fact, I have made a point to keep one in my jacket pocket whenever possible).

I've had one in my truck pretty much all year. I had no idea about the luck part of it though.

My plan is to kick myself for scaring away potential players again. It's only an interest check, and thus nothing set in stone but apparently I change too much even for an experimental concept. Rather than say they dislike this or that, they just say goodbye instead. No possibility of me going "wait, come back, I'd rather have players than the perfect system."

Oh, and work, work, and more work.

I watched an idiot come within a hair's breath away from head on collision because he couldn't be bothered to stay on the right side of the road.

Today, I cleaned and painted ALL THE RAILINGS, thus achieving the coveted status of MAN WHO HAS PAINTED THE RAILINGS.

As a reward, my other half agreed to watch 'The 18 Weapons of Kung Fu' with me, which did not have 18 weapons featured in it, much to my disappointment. I counted four, five if you count Master Mao's opium pipe.

Thanks. It's still really sore and stiff so fast movement (which is rare for me, anyway...lol) isn't really an option.

No games at Sweet Home Calabama this weekend, and none are on the horizon until after the first of the year. The holiday season has always slowed or shut down our gaming frequency so it's no surprise.

How about everyone else?

We had a long, difficult fight in D&D on Tuesday, which is just the sort I like, and we'll also have a PF2 game on Sunday. Most of the weekend will be spent informing the Purrbarian Brothers (Squeaker, who is multiclassing into bard, and Sneaker, who is multiclassing into rogue) that they have been fed, and keeping their snoots out of and paws off of places where they shouldn't be, if today is anything to go by.

Work today, probably order a pizza for dinner since the SO is gaming with her group tonight and my foot is bad enough I don't want to spend time in the kitchen after being on it all day. Tomorrow is probably going to be wrapping some Christmas presents and painting minis. At least, that is what I will be doing when I'm not serving as Her Fuzzy Highness' throne.

Did I miss something?

I noticed that Thanksgiving is basically being ignored by everyone this year. All the stores have jumped to Christmas music and decorations early, and none are even acknowledging Thanksgiving. I haven't even seen Thanksgiving decorations for sale much less on display, and it's just so weird. It's almost like the whole world forgot Thanksgiving even exists.

Hibernating.

As for plans,

Pkan A, make a set of rules for running pf/dnd as a survival/battle royale game. One 12 mile hex of dungeon being slowly overwhelmed by a massive horde of monsters and only 6 can escape when the eclipse comes.

Plan B, put a test packet together for my system, roads and ruins.

Plan C, make the ultimately customizable video game.

Yeah, the Christmas decorations come out before Halloween in some of the big chain stores here. Thanksgiving isn't really regarded as a major commercial holiday like Christmas. But rest assured, we'll contribute plenty to the economy buying stuff for dinner lol

My 8 year old daughter ran a 5k with her girls running group this morning.

Wait, let me back up: Last weekend, I was playing keep-away soccer with my kids and a few of their friends. I'm not much of a runner, and my quads were killing me afterwards for days. Then when discussing my daughter's running group earlier in the week, we were talking about different running stretches, and I was doing the one where you grab your ankle and pull your heel to your butt. When I let go and my foot went back to the floor, I bruised my heel, because I am old. Then yesterday, I was walking my daughter to school, and she suddenly decided to practice running and took off. I started jogging to keep up with her, but I hadn't stretched, and I hurt one of the muscles on the inside of my thigh. Also, I found out this week that an adult needs to run with any of girls participating in the 5k.

My 8 year old daughter and I ran a 5k with her girls running group this morning.

I've been pre-treating with Advil, and I just soaked in the bathtub. I'm feeling okay. I feel confident that I am going to be hurting tomorrow morning.

We were going to go camping Sunday through Tuesday with friends, but it's scheduled to rain pretty much all day on Monday, so camping has been cancelled. I'm a little disappointed, but I'm largely okay with the decision.

Pretty quiet weekend for me, then Thanksgiving with family on Thursday. I get a four day weekend next weekend, taking PTO to use up my hours.

Today was mainly spent questing for the legendary, carbonised LEG OF VECNA Editor's note: this assumes that Vecna was a roast chicken, which, canonically, at least, does not appear to be the case , engulphed in flaming fire, then secreted in a massy chest and locked inside a keep of dire proportions by a cruel, unfeeling giant who refuses to let us run riot in the Halls of Infinite Nourishment. We failed, but by Koth, we will keep trying, no matter what the odds.

Thanksgiving, if we do it this year, will be done just before Christmas so my sister can enjoy the meal. The downside with this way of doing things is having yet another heavy dinner in a short period of time.

As a licensed, practicing Fat Guy I see nothing wrong here.

20 years ago I would agree. These days my body needs a few days to recover.

Happy Friday, all! I hope everyone spent yesterday in the manner you prefer! I did, but remotely. I started spiking a fever Wednesday night and it just hung on all day yesterday and into the night. I decided that in the best interests of everyone's health I not risk passing around whatever cooties I might have and stayed home. I got a huge amount of leftovers so I still got to eat all the groovy Thanksgiving food.

Anyone gaming this weekend? Nothing here, but I still feel pretty rocky so I'm not too upset about it.

Well, my wife and I have been off all week, so last weekend hasn't ended for us and our my kids who have been out of school. Thanksgiving was nice; we spent it with my mom and sister.

I got our outdoor Christmas decorations up, and we bought a tree, so hopefully we'll get the tree lights on so that we can enjoy that as much as possible before we need to take it down at the end of the season.

Not much else going on.

Who's doing what this weekend? I might be running a remote game for a couple of kids in Pennsylvania, depending on their weather. Evidently a heavy rain or snowfall causes their internet to disconnect, so I'm guessing it's satellite accessed. We'll see come tomorrow afternoon, I guess!

That's where I saw it. The Landers Theater, Main Street, Batesville, Arkansas. I loved it on the big screen, even though it was in the oldest, most rundown of our town's two cinemas (three if you count the drive-in). I think I saw it once or twice more over Christmas break.

It is absolutely freezing, so I'm wearing two hoodies and the longest of all possible johns under my jeans; my phone died, so I had to get a new one, which I am not pleased about, and I also took seven large bags of books to the second hand bookshop, which my partner is very pleased about (as am I)

As it turns out, the remote game for my son's friends isn't until next Saturday, which worked out great as I've fallen twice in 24 hours and I'm blitzed on pain killers right now.

We went to a friends house this morning for breakfast and to watch the US lose to The Netherlands in the World Cup. Then we caught the last hour of my work's kids Christmas party so my wife could get a picture of the kids with Santa. Then we came home and relaxed before we headed back out to a community party at a park so my wife could get another picture of the kids with Santa.

Tomorrow we're going to a matinee of Beauty and the Beast where a family friend we haven't seen in a while is performing. I'm not even sure what role she's playing.

Enjoy your meds, Cal. Enjoy your hoodies, LL. Enjoy your Muppets, TOZ.
