This is very important.

Could we PLEASE not shut down discussion by saying 'Well, it's your game, you can run it however you want?'.

I have seen no less than three playtests fail miserably because there were all these 'quick work-arounds' and 'local fixes' that didn't address underlying CORE mechanics of games that needed to be fixed from the get-go.

We're building a new game together, let's look at it fully and see what needs to be done to make it happen, please?

Signs point to - Maybe.

Could we get an example of an underlying core mechanical issue that went unfixed after a playtest?

Wait? When/Where/Why did this happen?? O.o

I could totally understand them saying, "it's beta, we're working on it" or "that part isn't ready yet", but um, yah, that sounds like a bit of a cop-out of an answer.

Why? Hyperbole. The responses were actually more along the lines of, here's the choice we made, here's the reasoning behind the choice, but if you disagree with the reasoning, feel free to change it to something you prefer, no harm done play the way you want. And then someone would change it, it wouldn't work the way they thought, and it would somehow becomes the Devs' fault. The lack of useful feedback makes playtests much less meaningful, hopefully we as a community to work on that this time.

I think the weasel word here is "what are core mechanics"? Since "I don't like the alignment requirements for this class" in one sense can be considered core, because classes are a big part of the game, but it also causes no problems when the GM just handwaves it away, since nothing depends on it.

Now if it's something like resonance causing problems, since a lot of stuff is going to depend on resonance (even whole classes, like the Occultist) then issues should not be handwaved away with "fix it in your game."

If you think your players need more resonance, then likely everybody could need more resonance. If you think your players need Lawful Good Druids in Full Plate, that's assuredly not something everybody needs or wants.

So some sort of estimation of "is this problem going to crop up at very many different tables" is in order. Like "I don't think my players are mature enough to handle goblin PCs without being disruptive" is not a reason to omit goblins from the core options. In this case "just don't allow goblins" is the correct response.
