Ruins of Azlant Obituaries (Spoilers)

Ruins of Azlant

Grand Lodge

Hey everyone! Since no one else has posted an obituary thread I guess I'll start us off.

(optional)

And now for my entry.

Name: Gillene
Race: Human
Classes/levels: Witch 1
Adventure: The Lost Outpost
Location: The Chapel
Catalyst: A (un)lucky crit by Silas the poltergeist with Telekinesis.
The Gory Details: Gillene had taken the lead in investigating the scene of a struggle in the chapel despite her lack of love for religion. Silas made his presence known as she found the hidden latch on the alter and his body tumbled out. I rolled randomly to see which of the PCs he threw the statue of Erastil at with his telekinesis and it just happened to be her. And then I rolled a 20. Follow by a 19. And with that Gillene was splattered underneath the statue by a 25 damage critical. An appropriately tragic ending for a tragic character.

Name: Bob
Race: Human
Classes/levels: Fighter 1
Adventure: The Lost Outpost
Location: Levin Farm
Catalyst: Attack of opportunity from a drunk Choker
The Gory Details:The drunk choker heard the party rummage through the house. He positioned himself ready to strike anyone getting near the window. Bob the big dumb fighter approached the open window and got hit by the choke, but wasn't grabbed. Once combat was initiated he tried to climb out the window to reach the choker who had climbed to the top of the house. one attack of opportunity with a successful grab later and bob laid unconscious held by choker hand. The choker let him go to fight the rest of investigators and poor Bob fell on his skull, broke his neck and died

Dark Archive

Not many deaths in Ruins of Azlant? Unfortunately, I can now add my character to the list.

Name: Taliesin
Race: Kitsune
Classes/levels: Samurai (Warrior Poet) 11
Adventure: City in the Deep
Location: Undertow
Catalyst: Full attack with a Ranseur; GM rolled 16, 20 and 20, hitting 3 times, confirmed one of the (x3) crits and did 107 points of damage in a single round to a character who was already injured (from being hit in the previous round).

It's very scary as a single classed fighter-type PC to be facing off against multiple NPCs who have a higher "to hit" bonus than you and are attacking more times per round ...

Either
most people playing this are not using these boards or
they are shy or
this AP is not very deadly.

I am running this and truthfully apart from a couple of encounters in Book 2 have never really troubled the characters/players

Name: Alizia
Race: Human
Classes/levels: Witch 3
Adventure: The Lost Outpost
Location: Spindlelock Research Facility
Catalyst: Mind Thrust
The Gory Details: Alizia had just slumbered Rayland Arkley, in response Eliza used her mind thrust on the witch. Rolling very high damage, Alizia failed her save, dropping her from full to below negative con with one attack. Eliza herself was killed the following round. First PC death of the game so far.

Posting for a friend, this wasn't my game.

Name: Party Wipe (5 players)
Adventure: Into the Shattered Continent
Location: Eshani Reef
Catalyst: Overconfident Gorilla
The Gory Details: The (very experienced) party of adventurers had come to rely on the druids animal companion (a gorilla) as the front liner and tank. By this point in the adventure, the party would buff the gorilla, arm it with the best equipment, and send it in to destroy the enemy, with the rest of the party casting spells, shooting crossbow bolts, using the gorilla to flank (in the rogue's case), or just watching the gorilla tear all of their enemies apart. They had just cleared the shipwreck of the Sahuagin and were planning to head back, without anyone in the party really using any resources or being injured. So, the GM released the Elder Maw. Two rounds of highly damaging hits on the gorilla followed by a back-to-back crit on the third round killed the gorilla outright. The Elder Maw then chased the party as they scattered and fled, being eaten one by one by the enormous magical shark...

This is one of the few dangerous encounters I referred to earlier, it is completely over the top.
A CR8 monster would be difficult for the characters at 5th/6th level. With all the others opponents either before or at the same time turn it into a killing machine.
