Confused Rogue

Advice

Dark Archive

1) A rogue character is confused as the spell. On this rogue's turn in combat, it must attack closest creature, which is 10 feet away. Being melee-based, the rogue must move to the target.

Will the rogue simply move to the target to attack it? Or will the rogue move around the target in attempt to deliver a sneak attack (this assumes the target is already being threatened another)?

2) Does a confused character always deploy their best method to deliver damage when attacking closest creature? Or does this condition only allow the basic concepts of attack (i.e. a wizard will attack with his staff, not being able to concentrate on spellcasting)?

Thanks.

Sounds a lot like GM fiat. That being said, confusion still allows you as the player to control your character- you don't have to hand over your character sheet like you usually would if you are dominated or possessed.
I would usually rule that you attack in the most simple manner. You would charge, attack the nearest creature, and call it a day. No fancy feinting or flanking.

I require confused people to attack in the way you normally would. No throwing away your weapon to pummel someone with your bare hands.

Attack nearest creature. Move and attack. Simple, no tactics.

I agree with andreww, you are confused as to who is and is not your ally. You attack the nearest creature with your standard attack method.

As a side note my personal group will and does use and expect that to not be purposely gimpped. The rogue goes for the SA if able, the barbarian rages on you. The wizard casts a decent level spell not pulling out the crossbow or club they havent used in 6 lvls..

This is why confusion is a scary dang spell and I beg everyone to not dump your will save..

If the nearest target is/was an Ally before being confused, I would consider that target flat-footed as the rogue wouldn't be considered and enemy/hostile until they had attacked, so moving around for a flank wouldn't be required. A target unaware of an opponent basicly.

Does a Confused character always use their best attacks? Being confused, would they even remember they are a rogue to try and get a flank? likely not.
