Recruitment

51 to 100 of 120 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | 3 | next > last >>

Hello, this is Jereru. This will be my submission. Still no crunch, but that will be fixed by later today or tomorrow.

I guess we gain the Words when we're raised, so if we take a Word that boosts a stat (to 16 or 18) we should take all our level ups into account to get the base value, right?

Those words just give a +2 instead of raising a stat to a specific value. I think they clarified that in the original recruitment.

Where is that? I was just looking at the original recruitment and couldn't find anything about what the words would translate to in Pathfinder.

I'm split between two proposals:

1. Jumping Jetty, the bouncing b&!!+. A fighter first and foremost, and daughter of a Mage, Jetty was, before the collapse of Korvosa's government, known as the keenest fighter in any street combat. With a keen eye and a clever smile, nobody could match her.
When Korvosa collapsed, she had managed to maintain some stability. Help some in the fight. Eventually, she crossed a gray maiden. Cursed the queens name. After a long, hard fight, she ended up surrounded by four of the maidens, and died fighting.

2. The Fallen Herald. Koya, the elderly wisewoman of Sandpoint and the second oldest, found herself a daughter. She had been barren for decades, and had prayed for Desna to grant her fortune. But alas, she knew she would never bear a child. However, while tending to her garden one night, she found a child. Tiny, like a cucumber, half buried in her garden, cold and alone. So she raised that child. Fostered it's abitions, it's hopes. And when sandpoint was at war, assaulted on all sides by giants, the little girl fought for her mother. The little girl died for her mother. And the mother died for her girl.

"Newly-made Godbound get six points with which to buy gifts from
their Words, with lesser gifts costing one point and greater gifts costing two, while bonding a new Word costs three points. Every time
they gain a character level, they get two more points with which to buy more gifts. They may save these points or spend them immediately"

So...Godwyn has 6 points, as per the first page recruitment, not 20 for being lvl 8, right?

Two words...where instead of stats being set to 18, they instead are +2.

Universal Gifts
* Excellence of the Word: 1 point (+2Str, pushes Str from 18 to 20)

Word: Health (pushes Con from 16 to 18)
* Intricate Health: 1 point (+2 HP per level)
* Ender of Plagues Action 1 point (Commit Effort for the scene. Cure all diseases and poisonings within sight. If the Effort is expended for the day, the range of the cure extends to a half-mile around the hero, penetrates walls and other barriers, and you become immediately aware of any disease-inducing curses or sources of pestilence within that area.)
* Flesh Made True Action: 1 point (You are able to cure a target's maimings, blindings, poisons, mutilations, and birth defects by sight once per round. This does not heal hit point damage, but it can restore lost limbs and crippled functionality.)

Word: Sword Heroes with the Sword Word treat all their weapon or unarmed attacks as magical, cannot be disarmed, and can summon any melee weapon they’ve ever used immediately to hand as an Instant action.
* Contempt of Distance Constant: 1 point (Your movement action can take you to any point in movement range, provided the path is unobstructed and there’s a target to hit at the end of the move. A hero could thus dash straight to a rooftop or balcony without navigating the physical route there. Foes too far away to reach in one round can be pursued over multiple rounds, but they must be attacked once reached. This pursuit can even extend into the air, supporting the hero until they defeat their enemy or choose to disengage, whereupon they land safely at a point below)

--------------

That is 5 points. I would like to make a request. Can I spent 1 point to have the Word of the Sword apply to his armor as well as his weapon? Thematically it just sounds amazing.

I'll need to finish combing through the information given and download the Godbound book once I get home, but currently I'm envisioning an elf that died over a thousand years ago fighting the demonic threat that is Treerazer. Having been buried within the demon lord's realm for so long, the effects of the taint that infuses the land has become clear in the character's new visage. Whether by the will or incapability of whatever brought him back, the character has been left transformed into a tiefling (elf base).

Edit: I'm looking at some kind of mix between the Tanglebriar Demonslayer (Ranger) and Lantern Bearer prestige class. How would you deem the second level Favored Enemy ability of the Lantern Bearer works?

Lantern Bearer wrote:

Favored Enemy (Ex): At 2nd level, a Lantern Bearer selects a creature type from the following: aberration, animal, fey, humanoid (elf ), outsider (evil), and plant. This ability functions like the ranger class ability of the same name, and Lantern Bearer levels stack with other class levels that grant the favored enemy ability.

At 8th level, the Lantern Bearer can select an additional favored enemy from this list. In addition, the bonus against any one favored enemy from this list (including the one just selected, if so desired) increases by 2.

The concept would be that the character was among the returning Sovyrian elves that originally pushed back Treerazer and a early member of the Lantern Bearers.

You're right! I skipped that, thank you. This rule makes a lot more sense.

Seems my last message is out of commission until they get some coding issues resolved. I'll spend some time looking over things this evening and respond again once I have more to contribute about my character submission.

Are you sure it wasn't your cat dancing on the keyboard? :P

Take your time. These are indepth characters, so I am not gonna rush people. Though, I would like to get the game back up by middle of Feb, if possible :)

Is it that dweomercat familiar I've been hoping for?

I was coming up with the basis for a character. A quick summary would be that the character is one of the elves that returned from the Sovyrian elves that returned to drive back Treerazer and to become one of the original Shin'Rakorath (a.k.a. Lantern Bearers). In his continued fight against Treerazer he fell over a thousand years before the current setting. With his final resting place having been in the tainted tanglebriar that is Treerazer's domain, his body has been transformed into that of a tiefling. He is currently unsure of whether whatever brought him back lacked the power to revert him back to his original form or simply did not care.

The character will be very elf themed from fighting style to weapons. Currently I'm creating him as a tielfling Tanglebriar Demonslayer (Ranger) 5 / Lantern Bearer 3. Some questions/requests I have currently include:

  • Would I be allowed to change the tiefling alternate racial trait "Pass for Human" and to "Pass for Elf"?
  • How would you interrupt the Lantern Bearer's second level Favored Enemy ability?

would like to make a request. Can I spent 1 gift point to have the Word of the Sword apply to his armor as well as his weapon? Thematically it just sounds amazing.

@Godwyn We're reviewing the potential impact and will get back to you.

@Velthais As previously mentioned, Strange Aeons did not happen. Nothing from the AP is likely to be relevant. Please stick to the AP's that have been stated as "Broken". This may invalidate your second question as well since there is no Black Tapestry.

@Jereru We are asking for a racial story if players mess with their race attributes. This is because it is race, not personal character. Changing racial abilities implies a sub-race. The benefit of customizing racial attributes is writing up a description of the subrace. Why is the subrace different? What caused that evolutionary diversion? We will review your request for modification of the application of a WORD and get back to you.

@Redblade8 No on fractional BAB/Save.

@Cuan As DM's we needed a stopping point. To an extent we need to know all of the AP's that we are including. Even with three of us, that's a lot of work. And that's one of the major reasons we cut the AP's where we did. We feel that the AP's we are allowing provide more than enough material for developing a background and providing many adventuring opportunities with the world where it is.

DM Fnord wrote:

Oh, don't worry about it. I'm finally not wearing armour, so I'm fine. Looking a bit like The Thing would be cool, though, but that's just a cosmetic tweak.

On the race thing, yeah, I provided some explanations both here and in the alias. I understand you consider them short. I'll work on expanding them.

Thank you for the time you're taking on this, it makes us feel loved and appreciated as players.

“Godwyn We're reviewing the potential impact and will get back to you.”

I get that, it is a lot. I just got enthusiastic with all the potential in those newer APs (mainly a decent reason for me to make a hobgoblin).

As far as the whole racial modifications go, I was thinking of adding abilities to my character based on the fact he has been something else as well (he was a ghoul before dying again and awakening). He'd be a bit of a hybrid of his previous selves.
Would that also be OK?

"The Lucky Halfling" wrote:

1) I don't see why not

2) Interrupt? Do you mean interpret? If so then RAW? It's just additional favored enemy instances with a more limited list of enemy types as far as I can tell.

Tass Hobgoblins:
This subspecies of hobgoblins is in reality only a small clan which dwells in caves or very high peaks in the Storval Plateau. They are stouter and a bit shorter than a common hobgoblin, and well adapted to life both under and on the surface.

Tass Hobgoblins lack the cruelty of their more common cousins, tending towards neutral alignments. They connect with Nature in a primeval way, worshipping things like the raw elements or the sun and moon. It is believed that this was the result of the contact with the giant races that inhabit the Storval Plateau.

Their origin is speculated to be a crossbreed with some lost clan of dwarves, or a related race like oreads, somewhere in the past. How this came to happen has never been explained, though most anthropologists believe the hobgoblins conquered a dwarven settlement and forced them into slavery, mixing with them over the years. Since probably newborns with too much dwarven resemblance were discarded or relegated to the lowest strata, the result was a natural selection of hobgoblins with an extra touch of resilience. Also, some believe this assimilation of the dwarves played a crucial part in the evolution of their society, and that it was this fact that permitted them to maintain proper relations with the giants, as opposed to the idea told above that contact with the giants was what turned them neutral.

Tass are usually governed by a council of elders, which are most of the time druids or clerics of prime nature powers like Gozreh, the Green Faith or some elemental lords. They're hunters/gatherers who have expanded all over the Plateau, always under the influence of the Stone Giants who rule the area. The fact that there's hardly no one else to interact with is probably the main reason they are mostly unknown in the rest of Golarion, with the exception of a few historians who have very few data about them that they can only speculate.

Features
Flexible Stats: +2 Dex, +2 Con (2 points)
Advanced Con (4 points)
Advanced Wis (4 points)
Greed (1 point)
Sneaky (5 points)
Stonecunning (1 point)
Darkvision 60’ (2 points)

For a total of 19 points, I’ve added some dwarven features (Greed, Stonecunning and the stat bonuses) to a hobgoblin and created a crossbreed. I hope you approve it.

I did mean interpret and I now realize that I should have went further in depth into what I was asking. The ability states (with the portion I'm curious about being in italics):

Lantern Bearer's Favored Enemy Ability wrote:

Favored Enemy (Ex): At 2nd level, a Lantern Bearer selects a creature type from the following: aberration, animal, fey, humanoid (elf ), outsider (evil), and plant. This ability functions like the ranger class ability of the same name, and Lantern Bearer levels stack with other class levels that grant the favored enemy ability.

At 8th level, the Lantern Bearer can select an additional favored enemy from this list. In addition, the bonus against any one favored enemy from this list (including the one just selected, if so desired) increases by 2.

Would the Lantern Bearer gain those additional favored enemy instances alongside the continued growth of his ranger favored enemy instances? So that a Ranger 5 / Lantern Bearer 5 would effectively gain four favored enemies (Three from being the equivalent of a level 10 Ranger and one from being a level 5 Lantern Bearer)? I'm not hugely worried about how this is ruled, but I want to make sure I'm making the character correctly.

@the lucky so long as the progression is no faster than the normal ranger progression. Just as with sneak attack, stscking from two classes can't allow a faster progression. for instance, 3 levels of rogue gives 2d6 sa, dipping something at 4th that would seem to give another d6, won't. It continues the progression and at 5th the 3rd d6 kicks in.

You'll need to check to see how many favored enemies you get as if you were a 15th level ranger.

@DM Fnord: that's fine, I just wanted to make sure of which way it was working; there are up- and down-sides either way. Thanks.

A general note to everyone: a plea from those of us on mobile browsers. Where possible, can long, unbroken strings of characters be avoided? They can cause mobile browsers to act oddly in sizing out a page. I was all excited when this thread got to its second page, then The Lucky Halfling started seeing the Matrix's source code and melted down there. ;)

UnRogue/Gunslinger build still WIP.

The code you are referring to is an issue they are having on the site Redblade. I rather prefer to try and construct easily readable posts, though albeit with my own writing skills, that is not always what happens. That particular post would be setting a new standard for incomprehensible for my posts though.

Do the Lantern Bearers still exist as a group in the current campaign or were they eliminated at some point in time?

You have no idea. ;)

This is Ouachitonian, submitting Drystan. I think I've got everything pretty close, but I'm sure he'll still need some tweaking. I never found the conversions for the various Word powers. Where is that? Also, the race changes, did I read right that it needs to be some sort of subrace that we write up? I had planned on his changes (from Flexible to Advanced ability scores and adding Greater Spell Resistance) being merely a part of his rebirth: Ragathiel (assuming he's not dead) super-charged Drystan's reborn body to be better at fighting demons (and everything else).

Working with a necromancer will be...interesting, but I can probably get by on the "temporary alliance in the face of a greater evil" exception. After all, Sarenrae and Asmodeus, Apsu and Dahak all united against Rovagug.

Don't worry, Loc and I have had the "conversation" about summoning undead. Several, in fact.

OK, so, probably (because, you know, you always forget something) Ametist is finished. Have a look and tell me if there's anything else you want to know, or anything missing, if you feel like.

Dark Archive

Tis true. I have to get it in writing if I want to make anything intelligent from the consenting party. I can take bodies of enemies as long as they were evil monsters. Same with souls. He basically promised never to harm anyone good but it's all free reign on undead, demons, evil archwizards, etc.

Oh goodness. I swear I read the OP! :). IIRC, somewhere in the "Ruins of Pathfinder" doc, it says something about it being "guns everywhere" in the area around Alkenstar, and "guns commonplace" everywhere else, hence my confusion.

All is not lost, I can make him a straight up UnRogue. Thanks for setting things straight!

Wake-Up Call:
At first, there was nothing. Then he heard a voice, distant, as of someone being called to while in a deep sleep.

Zohruk, awaken.

He didn't react. He might as well have been dead.

Zohruk Burning Sun! Your new dawn has risen.

Yeah, well let it rise without me. I'm sleeping here.

Long have you slumbered. Let us now hope it was not too long.

It was hopeless trying to get back to sleep now, he was waking up. He opened his eyes, or rather tried to, only to find that, for lack of a better description, he didn't seem to have eyes. Or a body of any sort, he realized as he went to stand up.

What's going on here?

The Burning Mother is sending you back to Golarion.

This turn of the conversation distracted Zoh from the matter of his disembodied state. What do you mean, 'Back'?

You died in battle, the angel explained, And came home to Sarenrae. But now you might be our last hope.

Hope? Hope for what? As he wondered, he was starting to get what almost felt like bodily sensations; an itchiness as if he was lying in straw, and the feeling something was prodding him in the side.

That what has gone wrong in the world can be set right. At that, memory returned in a rush, and he collapsed back into unconsciousness.

**********

Very tentatively, the stable boy prodded the half-orc with the butt of his pitchfork. "Hello? Wake up!"

This is Redblade8, and this is the alias from which I'll be making my submission. At the moment the profile lists just the planned level progression and Feats/Talents taken. I'll flesh him out more ASAP. After I got the straight dope on the firearms thing yesterday, I swapped him from a Gunslinger dip to one of Fighter, and will thus be a melee-based build instead (sneaking up and stabbing guys instead of doing a Michael-Corleone-at-dinner-with-The-Turk-and-McCluskey). His divine Words will be Deception and Sword.

A question: may we pass on tinkering with the Race Points? Most times I start doing that, they start feeling more "fake", for lack of a better term.

Later,
Zohruk

EDIT: I almost forgot. Are you guys okay with the weapon creation rules from Weapon Master's Handbook? I'd like Zoh to use a weapon designed using those rules. It's basically like an orcish version of a starknife or hunga-munga.

@zohruk Your request for a custom weapon is too broad to answer. Present something specific and we will review that specific request.

If you are wanting a general allowance for anything from WMH, the answer would be "no."

I'll get you the design point breakdown tonight, but the basics are like:

Orcish zherkul
Price: 36gp
Type: light melee (can be thrown)
Proficiency: exotic
Dmg (M): 1d6 P
Crit: 19-20 x2
Range: 20 ft.
Weapon group: light blades
Weight: 4 lbs

As written up, it abides by the design rules in that book. The design goal was to get a light melee/throwable weapon that was "Orcish" in nature (in designing it, I basically eyed a starknife up and tried to duplicate that). If that's somehow unacceptable, LMK in what way, so I can avoid future mistakes?

Thanks.

Dark Archive

I must ask as well if anyone is interested in joining the cool undead side instead of those whispering way wannabes. Loc is very open to ideas.

We seem to have a solid amount of potential candidates, so I am going to close recruitment to new submissions only this Friday, Feb 2nd.

After that, we'll give those of you who have submitted a few days to clean up and finish your characters, and then we'll make our decision some time next week.

How converting the words worked last time was we submitted the words we wanted and the GM team decided on how they worked, based on what the word did and how that would best interact with Pathfinder.

Any word yet on whether my sword power is approved?

*Karen* wrote:

Ok, that makes sense. Here’s the ones I was looking at, in case they’ve been used before and have known conversions:

Fire:
Firestorm
Searing Blade

Sword:
Contempt of Distance
Shattering Hand

Those gifts are fine as far as I can tell. I don't think we modified them.

I chose some gifts in my submission and didn't ask, but the intention was that, once you reviewed it, any change or bane would be informed if I get picked, or if it would prevent me from getting picked. I guess you three GMs are doing a herculeus job with all these conversions here. For now, I'm playing in a campaign with Choon and have absolutely no complain.

PS I have to say I think some of the Gifts seem a bit too drastic in power, but I guess that will be needed if we're facing mythic guys.

Godwyn, not quite sure what you mean by having your sword powers also apply to your armor? I'm not really seeing anything that would apply to armor.

Can you explain more fully what you're looking to do here?

The sword word lets him summon to his hand any weapon he has ever wielded.

“Heroes with the Sword Word treat all their weapon or unarmed attacks as magical, cannot be disarmed, and can summon any melee weapon they’ve ever used immediately to hand as an Instant action. ”

I’d like to have it apply to his armor as well. So he can summon both weapon and armor.

It makes heavy armor and shield more adventuring friendly.

Granted he has comfort fullplate so he can sleep in it when adventuring. But I like the idea of being able to instantaneously have a halberd and full plate appear on the paladin/oracle.

Oh, if that's all you want, sure. I thought you were talking about some of the actual powers, hence my confusion. It's just a much better version of the called property anyways.

Thank you. I’ll update the character sheet. :)

So is that two instant actions, or one?

Is the armor called to his hand, or equipped?

What if he's wearing armor?

Hey monkeygod, I wanted to try and get in this game originally. I'll pitch my hat in this time around.

Dark Archive

Should we call recruitment at this point?

I’d say so. :)

Yes, no need to drag things out.

Aaaaaaaah, I'm almost done my back story.

Can I get a check of who all is still interested, and has a completed alias??
