Role-Playing a Date in Pathfinder

Advice

So my character is a 22-year old Sorceress with an enchanting focus on a lot of her spells as the main flavor. She's a bit socially awkward and very bright (I took the Sage archetype from the Arcane Bloodline to make Int my caster ability, not Cha) and she managed to get a date with this equally awkward 19-year old guard who thought that she was really pretty and all that haha.

Anyways, I have some ideas about how to role play this date, because, I kinda do want to mess with the poor chap and see how my DM will react to that, but I was wondering if any of you had any suggestions about how to make this the most hi jinx-filled date ever :P

P.S.
Character details below:

DETAILS:

STATS and DESCRIPTION
LVL = 16 Sorcerer, 1 Loremaster
HEIGHT = 5'5"
WEIGHT = 124 lbs
HAIR = Shoulder length blonde
EYES = Purple
DESCRIPTION = A woman of average height and weight with a strikingly beautiful appearance. She frequently uses her appearance in tandem with her enchantment spells to lure victims and manipulate them to do her bidding. Her vast intelligence is an asset in both her adventures with her friends, and in knowing exactly how to manipulate her opponents the best.

ABILITY SCORES
STR = 9 DEX = 26 CON = 19
INT = 36 WIS = 19 CHA = 8

//DM gave us all a magic potion from this spring where all our stats were boosted by +1...hence the weird numbers

Not sure if the saves will be important for the date, but here they are anyways:
SAVES
FORT = 16
REF = 20
WILL = 22

With a high INT, I have a lot of skills, but here are some notable ones:
SKILLS
ACROBATICS = 15
APPRAISE = 18
BLUFF = 22
DIPLOMACY = 9
ESCAPE ARTIST = 10
FLY = 40
INTIMIDATE = 21
KNOWLEDGE = 30-44 (Varies)
PERCEPTION = 33
SENSE MOTIVE = 33
SLEIGHT OF HAND = 16
STEALTH = 27

//Again, too many spells to list, but here are the important ones; ask if you want to know if I have a certain spell or not...Keep in mind that the guard boy knows I'm magical, but not necessarily HOW magical
SPELLS
CANTRIPS - Detect Poison, Mage Hand, Message, Prestidigitation, Spark
FIRST - Keep Watch, Ray of Enfeeblement, Silent Image
SECOND - Alter Self, Blindness/Deafness, [Hideous Laughter], Invisibility, Mirror Image
THIRD - mostly blast spells except for [Suggestion], and Slow
FOURTH - [Aura of Unremarkable], [Confusion], Dimension Door, Scrying
FIFTH - [Dominate Person], [Feeblemind], [Spell Perfection - Hold Monster], Telekinesis, Wall of Force
SIXTH - [Geas/Quest]
SEVENTH - Forcecage, Greater Polymorph, Reverse Gravity, [Waves of Ecstasy]
EIGHTH - Polymorph Any Object, [Power Word Stun]

FEATS
Silent Spell, Quicken Spell, Spell Perfection (Hold Monster), Greater Spell Focus (Enchantment), Persistent Spell, and Still Spell among others.

My Enchantment Spell DC ranges from 25 at 0th level to 33 at 8th level with the exception of Hold Monster which has a DC of 36

I already plan on implementing sleight of hand, bluff, and maybe a bit of intimidate skills in the mix, as well as a bunch of mind-affecting enchantment spells. Since I can cast spells pretty much undetected thanks to Silent and Still spell, he'll be at the whim of my full spell casting ability without so much as him realizing what's happening.... at least, that's how it'll go in my head haha... so any other suggestions?

For one thing, *real* dates can be awkward and uncomfortable enough as it is, why would you want to roleplay one?

For another, unless it is just you and the DM doing this, what are the other players going to be doing while you "work your magic" on this poor guard?

Finally, even with silent and still spell (each of which adds +1 level to the spell), your spellcasting will not go unnoticed, thanks to the recent ruling on spell manifestations. You'll need one of the special feats now used to hide spellcasting to make your deal complete. Unless you have some other clever way to explain the glowing runes that appear during spellcasting.

If I were your DM, I would reduce the "date" to a few sentences of description, and any appropriate saving throws to resist your awesome spells. If only so we could move the spotlight back to a place where the other players can also share.

Prestidigitation is a very versatile spell that lets you create all sorts of minor effects that normally have no effect in game terms, but let you put in any kind of flavor you want:

change the flavor of his food.

Change the color of your eyes and ask him if he remembers what you eye color is, and then act all hurt when you change your eye color and make him guess wrong.

Make him soil his pants when he can see it and you can't, then clean his pants off when you can see it and chuckle as he surreptitiously checks himself out and breathes a sight of relief. Then soil his pants again.

Give him body odor.

Walk by a pile of stinking garbage and make it smell like lilacs. "Aw, you're so sweet. You think that when I'm with you a pile of trash smells like lilacs..."

So, what is his plan for his date with you? What counts as dinner-and-a-movie in Golorian? Personally, I really like minigolf for a date, especially a first date.

Well, it was kinda the DM's idea... I was hesitant to go through with it, but the rest of the party seemed to be excited to witness the date haha... I really have no idea how this is going to go...

I was honestly not aware this was a thing. I'll have to bring this up with the DM to see his verdict... RAW though, I would probably just hide my hands under the table? I dunno if that'd work... lol probably not...

I DEFINITELY like that idea!! And... I'm not 100% sure either... the date was mostly the DM's idea haha XD

Is your Soceress evil? Why is she torturing a teenager? Especially one who is awkward in social situations and is probably genuinely trying to impress her?

This kind of behavior would make her a cold-hearted bully at best. And considering what Enchantment can do, especially against someone who can't do magic, the sorceress has the potential to dwell in the moral territory of monsters.

It's your game, of course, and nothing of real consequence. If I were your GM, I'd at very least keep that in mind for future reference on alignment-related effects.

If you can get a scroll...

Shocking Grasp + grabbing his crotch if he gets too handsy for her.

Mean Girl is a thing in fiction. Whether it actually sinks to the level of "Evil" depends on the level of meanness. Maybe she's just a brat, also a thing in fiction. The OP may have a nuanced statement to make with bad girl fictional conceits.

And another thing, falling under the spell of a beautiful woman is a very common, magical experience that happens to men in real life, too. You always feel like a complete fool, but whatever happens to you, whenever you see her smile, it makes it all worth it. You look into her eyes, and you get lost and powerless like a kitten. You press your cheek to hers, and you know there is no Dragon you would not slay, no quest you would not take on for her. The last time I realized how a beautiful woman was bewitching me like that, I married her. I am still helpless under her power, and still all I want to do is be her hero.

If enough succesful diplomacy checks you get to make a acrobatics check.

That's what falling head-over-heels is all about!

Acrobatics isn't for a first date. Maybe a little Sleight of Hand first.

Question: if she herself is socially awkward, as stated in the first post, would it be in her character to torment this poor guy? I had originally guessed she would be using her magic to try and make the date go better, but unintended consiquences kept making things worse. Example: casting True Strike on the lad when he tries to win her something at a carnival type game, only the game was rigged and now the booth runner is mad because he shouldn't have won.

Maybe she's socially awkward because she doesn't know how to act on a date like play jokes when it's uncalled for... and becomes annoying.

People complaining about her luring people with enchantment and looks.

Yet no-one would bat an eye if she was an evoker whose MO was incineration.

Her favored Spell is hold Monster for heavens sake. Don’t get this, anyone who’s manipulative must be evil, but stabbing people is absolutely fine.

So she’s going to maybe do some enchanting on a guard, is it nice? No, is it evil? Still no.

So when designing a date it’s similar to a five room dungeon.

1. The Entrance Guardian
If your date lives at home you’re going to have to make awkward small talk with the parents. I hope you have ranks in Bluff and Diplomacy, they are immune to Intimidation.

2. The Puzzle or Roleplaying Challenge
You’re going to have to speak with your date, find out what you have in common and obviously do your best to hide your flaws. This will probably be the trickiest part of the whole adventure.

3. Trick or Setback
You’re going to discover something about your date that you don’t like. Maybe they are die hard fans of a rival sports team to your favourite sports team. Maybe they think tabletop RPGs are lame. Maybe they are on the run from the secret government program that gave them superpowers. Any number of typical trivial things that you’ll have to decide is important enough to keep going on with the date.

4. Big Climax
;)

5.Reward or Revelation
If you succeed you get to go on another date, or you’ll discover that the real love was the adventure inside you all along or something like that.

I'm just curious why a woman with such incredibly high intelligence - unfathomable intellect according to d20PFSRD - would amuse herself with such small and petty behaviour?

High intelligence doesn't preclude you from being a petty jerk.

I suspect the OP isn’t shooting for “my character is a jerk”

If OP wants to not get that vibe, I figure step one would be "don't mind-screw the person you're dating" which is what he seems to be implying unless it's a roundabout way of mind-screwing random bystanders during the date which is also petty jerk behavior by and large.

the intention is definitely "messing with some poor person for nothing but personal amusement".

That being said, even good people can be jerks (at least occasionally), they just (should) stop before doing real harm.

I don't think conjecturing about the OP or her character being a petty, evil jerk is helping the OP have a good gaming experience.

There are some things we don't have to conjecture about.

The date is happening mostly because the GM is setting up this encounter.

Wahbanator wrote:

And we know that she wants to use magic somehow to affect this date, but not actually Charm the guard.

Another thing we know is that coming across as a complete jerk--if that is what she is doing--is not evidence of poor roleplay on the OP's part. Review her character.

Wahbanator wrote:
strikingly beautiful appearance... CHA = 8

Recall that Charisma is a combination of appearance, social skills, and personal social presence.

Charisma wrote:
Charisma measures a character’s personality, personal magnetism, ability to lead, and appearance.

The combination of being strikingly beautiful and have a Charisma of 8 must mean this character has TERRRRIBLE people skills. And the negative impression the OP's plan for the evening is forming in the mind of you contributors is evidence that she is doing a very good job of roleplaying a strikingly beautiful character with a Charisma of 8. The fact that she is extremely intelligent won't make her charaismatic. It might make her obsessively plan out every detail and contingency of the night and do everything she can to feel in control, devise tests for her gentleman caller, and generally do everything she can to make her date night magical while at the same time completely missing the point of that "magical" is supposed to really mean for a date. Again, this seems to me like exactly what the OP is doing, and it seems like good roleplay of a Charisma 8 pretty girl.

I think even were the opposite true, we should trust the OP knows what she is doing except as defined by her question. I think we should try to restrict ourselves to answering her question, giving counsel to help the OP get what she wants or what we think she wants, and perhaps press her for details about how her date went.
