Hello all,
I'm creating a character that will be evil, but needs to operate within a good party. While I have several options that will mask or misdirect my alignment, I'm worried someone will drop a Holy Smite or the like. Ya I can ping good, but taking damage from spells that target evil will be a bit harder to explain :) Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

"I've got a special armor... It's called Angelskin by Odeon. It's illegal in nine nations... Yep, it's made with bits of real angel, so you know it's good."
"It's quite grisly."
"Oh yeah."
"It's a formidable look... It stings the eyes. In a good way."
"Yep."
"Gellor, I'm gonna be honest with you, that looks like a butchered cherub."
"They've done studies, you know. 20% of the time, it works every time."
[cheesy grin]
"That doesn't make sense."
"Well... Let's go see if we can make this little cleric purr."

Just wondering, do you have reason to think someone will actually drop a Holy Smite, or are you just disaster-planning?
(It seems like an unlikely thing to happen. That said, it would do the job of letting you know naughty-spawn walked among you. "Why is Gary bleeding from both eyes? All the priest did was cast... Oh [bleep]!")

My advice is don't do this. Pathfinder works best as a team game. Be part of the team.
Evil characters can be team players, but it is true that a lot of players use it as an excuse to team-kill.
There is an ability that does this, but it's a mythic ability called Beyond Morality, so unless you're mythic you're out of luck. There is weaker ability of the same name that is non-mythic, but it's exclusive to the wizard and only works if you're true neutral.

And if you intend to be a team player then it may be best not to magically disguise your alignment. Sure your friends will be disappointed when they find out you're evil, but if you've dealt honestly with them then you and the party may well survive the revelation.

Do you know anything about the major campaign enemy? If you are fighting demonically influenced foes, you can easily make the case that you have a common cause with good aligned characters. If you are fighting devils or other lawful evil foes, you will need to come up with a reason unrelated to alignment but obviously sensible to the other party members as to why the campaign enemies are also your personal enemies.

My character in a Forgotten Realms game is Evil and the paladin in the party still has no idea. How did I manage this, you might ask?
Well, for the last 4 levels I've been the typical spellcaster. I stayed behind the front line. I let the people in armor go first. I politely let her go first.
Granted, I also have a magical deterrent against being scryed on, and it works on detect evil. Lately I've been dropping hints too, but no one is picking them up.

So here is a bit more. I'm planning on being a team player. We are playing the Giantslayer adventure path. I am playing a neutral kitsune enchanter who worships Szuriel. (there is a vengeance backstory to this) As the adventure path has progressed, he is not getting as much treasure as he would like to craft magical items.
He is starting to consider creating soul gems from the party's fallen foes to fuel his magical crafting. He doesn't really care how he creates the Amulet of Natural Armor (example), he just wants to create it, and the party can use it in the fight.
However, draining souls is evil work, and will turn him evil rather quickly... I can mask this with spells, damnation feats, etc.. but I don't want to protect against as many contingencies as possible. (as RedBlade 8 called out)
Does this clear it up a bit more? Thanks for all the quick and thoughtful responses!
The angelskin is intriguing
Dasrak, great call on Beyond Morality. Unfortunately I'm playing a sorcerer, but I'll need to do some research to see if I can get an Arcane Discovery somehow.

As aligned blasting spells still do diminished damage to neutral creatures, your team shouldn't have you in their AoEs anyway, unless you are actively pretending to have a Good alignment.
That said, be up front with the others (Out of Character at the very least) that your character is on the evil side of the tracks. Giantslayer is an AP where non-Chaotic Evil characters would have no qualms with opposing the enemies, and would still have reason to not backstab the party.
Evil is a glorious spice for campaigns, best implemented carefully.
