I’ve been dealing with a migraine the past two days. It’s 4.35am here now and I need meds and some sleep. I’ll post later in my day. Thanks for your patience.

Ariarh, I hope that headache sods off and soon.
Two pieces of news:
1) I'm currently job hunting, though that is going well. That said, I might have less free time than usual.
2) I'll be at a gaming convention this weekend, so I'll likely be less active online.

Makalani glances between Tairin and Paten.
"Begging your pardon noble born? Why should you wish to explore that..." his voice trails off as he realizes he is trying to dissuade a noble from their intention, especially being asked for an opinion first.
He does not seem eager to prevent you from going for personal reasons, but he does seem more afraid/shocked by your question. If you had told him you wanted to put your hand in a fire you think he would have the same reaction.
He glances between you and Paten, as if he hopes that Paten might dissuade you from what he thinks to be a perilous or foolish plan, but merely says -
"To hear is to obey, noble born," and then awaits your decision.
Alright, colour me confused. First Paten mentions we should explore the intact obsidian temple and Makalani says no, no due to some fear of it.
"If you wish to wait for the dirt to removed from that stone chamber I could offer you a place to rest and be comfortable and get a decent drink or at least a small meal?" he prompts, gesturing to some covered tents while the men continue to sing as they dig.
Then he says why don't you look at the ruins (where they're currently digging). So, I have Tairin say okay let's do that ... and Makalani questions it? So, which is it? We can or can't explore/examine the dig/ruins?

When you wrote "The ruins" that was a very confusing term for me.
The entire city is a ruin, technically; also, you wrote multiple checks about the stonework via temple on the cliff. You were not close enough for that yet, but you could get closer to examine it, which you might want to do, I wasn't sure.
So when you wrote that you wanted to explore "The ruins" I wasn't sure that you wanted to wait to explore the dig his men were working on because, as he invited you to do that, though you'd have to do that while waiting in the shade for an hour or so while they finished their dig.
Anyway, when I saw you wrote "the ruins" and also the diplomacy check to pacify him I was confused why he would need to be pacified if you were merely agreeing to his invitation to sit comfortably while his men dug.
Basically, the meds, and other issues are making it very challenging to understand some of the texting stuff; I had assumed I knew what you meant, clearly I didn't.
It has been very hard for me; even as I write this I am having trouble focusing on the screen, my eyes hurt and my head hurts, and I feel dizzy sitting up because of the medicine I took about an hour ago.
It seems you want to wait to check out what his men are digging, that's absolutely fine; please let me know what you want to do while waiting for his men to finish their dig in the next hour or so and we can go from there, given that it will take roughly an hour or so for the dig to be finished.
You do have time and place to rest comfortably with him and his men; just let me know what, if any, strategies you have for that time while you wait with him and his diggers and other men, or if you just want to relax and have some refreshment or however you want to handle it.
Thank you.

It's the weekend and I don't post on weekends as it's family time. I have posted the last two weekends as you've asked for us to post, but as a general rule, I won't be able to post every weekend.
I'll get something up by my Monday the latest (it's late Saturday afternoon here now).

Dain, Paten and Tairin's main aim was to discover if Aisha was indeed among the slaves within the Temple District. We've rolled a number of perception checks and we have a basic rundown on what Aisha looks like via Talar, yet we have not heard if we have seen anyone fitting Aisha's description at the priest's house or now at the dig? I don't want to waste time at the dig if there's nothing of value re information to gain from being there.
If Aisha's not among the slaves there, then what do we need to do to find her elsewhere in this district? I'm at a loss as to where to go because I don't know this district and neither does my character. Any info from you would be useful so we can plan what to do next and where to go. Thanks. (If we need to make certain checks to get more info, then what checks are you after, please?)
It is not easy to see, but the slaves who would have been serving you in the sheltered areas seem to be a combination of male and female; you suspect that they may have brought females slaves to placate the sentiments of some of the more important sorts who would come here.
How far away are they from us currently as you said it isn't easy to see?
Dain GM
The shelters are made up of various overhangs and some tents to have the goods and gear protected by dusty wind. You are only about 75 feet away from them, but it is possible that inside those tents you may find the girl.
It is also possible that you may find her inside the two refurbished temples or the home of where a local priest would live.
The most likely place for her based on your data is to examine the two temples that have been refurbished.
Based on what you have heard her education in language and culture could be useful to these people; so she may be someone working on the fine details of attending to details in the small, fixed-up temples themselves.
However, your gut is indicating that it's unlikely she is here.
If she was truly purchased as a high-class escort, these sort of men are the sort who could afford that type, and they probably wouldn't appreciate anything special she has to offer. While she could be in the place for a priest to live, your hunch suggests that probably the priest himself would not be there - if he was at the dig at all, it would be likely he would have been watching from the overhanging shelter to see the dig progressing and come to great you personally (or that a slave/servant would have told him at once that two nobles from Yar-Ammon have come to his dig; your presence could be seen a threat to his power base, for example).
As for the temples themselves (this includes the black one) you're free to examine any of them.
While you don't believe you'll find the girl here, this place is certainly an interesting one. There are things to explore, if you wish, however, I feel like I'm doing a shoddy job of keeping things organized.
You're looking for the girl; you don't think you see her; she might be here but it's not likely.
There are two temples dedicated to more "friendly" gods of ancient Yar-Ammon, and one to a god that is considered more "dark" and something that will be dug up soon - as well as a possible priest's home.
You're free to explore any of these sites out of curiosity; it is not likely that they will result in finding Talar's sister, but there may be details you could find useful later.
To simplify, just put up what - if anything - you'd like to do at the buildings mentioned above and I'll let you know how long it will take.
If you want to see them dig up the area you're free to wait for that, too, but that's entirely up to you.
Okay; talk to you all soon and keep me posted!

That is helpful information.

Well in all fairness, Intimidate is going vs Level + wisdom modificator or against Sense motive. And she is in her place of power, surrounded by devoted followers and threatened by a nobody foreigner.
I would not be intimidated either.
Talar Drealev
I suppose. I just feel like the role-playing side of intimidate already gets neutered quite a bit when compared to the other social skills. Although to be fair it's got more combat use than diplomacy, although bluff seems to get the best of both worlds.
Meh, is what it is. I felt like I was slowly slipping out of character being that patient and subtle anyways.

Possible House Rule on Knowledge Checks?
Add +2 to roles if born native to that area; 0 to rolls if adjacent to that area on Map, and -2 to rolls for every nation between you and the adjacent one (in other words, you would both be at -6 to your rolls as Tharag Thule is technically 4 regions from your homelands. That said, what do you think of this House Rule? It would allow you to gain bonuses to Knowledge Checks from your native region; no bonus or penalty checks to the reasons adjacent to it, but the further you get from your homeland, the more challenging it would be. This isn't a firm House Rule yet, but I think it makes sense and I generally tweak things like this anyway, but if I am - having it properly codified somewhere makes sense to me.
Remember, this isn't set in stone formally; just an idea on how to "codify" the fact that, the further you travel from the nation you were raised in, the more likely the information you have regarding other cultures will be less (and being born in your own homeland would, theoretically, confer you some bonus to your skill set as well).
What's your take on the idea?

Bjeorn and Talar: A final note/description of what happened to you before Tairin, Paten and Farrokh arrive has been posted on the other thread.
It lets you know the last thing you see right before what happens on the main thread pops up, so go ahead and read that last post for context before swapping to the main thread.
See you all soon!

I like that house rule. It makes a place of origin even more important, which is a theme here.

Under Ranger/Dandy, Tairin gets to choose a Favoured Nation instead of Favoured Enemy. Since their base is currently in Khazistan and they seem to be spending considerable time here, I chose Khazistan for her 1st Favored Nation.
•Favored Nation (Ex) (have chosen Khazistan): Each time she would select a favored enemy, a dandy instead selects a country with whose courtly graces she is wholly versed and studied. She gains a +2 bonus on Bluff, Diplomacy, Knowledge, Perception, Sense Motive, and Survival checks against courtiers, officials, nobles, and gentry from that nation. Likewise, she gains a +2 bonus on weapon attack and damage rolls against them. A dandy can attempt the appropriate Knowledge checks untrained to identify such people from the selected country. A dandy gains additional favored nations, and can increase the bonuses of one of her current favored nations, in the same way she would with a normal ranger’s favored enemy. This ability replaces favored enemy.
If you implement your house rule, that means that since Khazistan is 2 nations from Yar-Ammon, she would get a -4 to checks. Does your house rule then trump the class benefit? She would then be making these checks at penalty of -2, which I would certainly have an issue with since I chose this class prior to your impending house rule.

Perhaps that ranger focus overrides the new modifiers? Or at least the new negative modifiers? It does seem to badly affect the benefit of that ranger ability.

I would certainly be okay if this ranger/dandy ability overrides the houserule as it does play important part of Tairin's general persona and my idea of her build and character. In this case, it should override anything to do with Khazistan as it's her 1st favoured nation. Outside of Khazistan (and Tairin's intimate knowledge of her own homeland, Yar-Ammon), the GM's houserule can come into play with it's geographical penalties, until she picks up her 2nd favoured nation (if I continue down the path of this class).

quick note before I toss up a response -
1. Tairin; I sent you a private message regarding your concerns, but I don't think you have anything to worry about.
2. Paten - your Spoiler to Bjeorn made no sense; there was only one dead body that was from Tharag Thule, the corpse had red hair.
You indicated that the corpse had blonde hair, that is not accurate, it was red.
To be clear, Bjeorn has blonde hair...
3. Bjeorn - I have no issue with you giving up the gold armband to compensate for what Talar did; though it should be noted that gold has more value in this nation than most worlds (silver and copper coins being the main currency typically).
However, the priestess will agree to the decision and since I assume your group is keeping track of party loot on their end I will deduct the value of the armband from the group itself as a whole, no worries.
Okay, I have some things to do then a response is coming.

Urgh, I flipped the hair colours in my head. That is an annoying oversight.

1 person marked this as a favorite.
I am here and reading along. My character is just physically gone from the scene so I find it hard to add much of anything to it :P
And also for the sake of transparency, I want to make it clear that as a player I am having a lot of fun. I know that in-game Talar is extremely frustrated and literally stormed out of a room breaking stuff, but I want to make it perfectly clear that there is a very sharp player/character divide here. Dain GM reached out to me with his concerns and I just want to let everybody know what's going on :)
Patenemheb Sitayet
Players can thoroughly enjoy themselves when their characters aren't, and vice versa. It's good to have clarity on that though. :)
Talar Drealev
Please don't worry about the scene going on without me. I can tell you feel obligated to give me something to do in the meantime, but I made this decision and I'm happy to sit back for a little bit and read along with what the others are doing. Once we reach later in the day in game, Talar will return.
Patenemheb Sitayet
Hopefully it is an enjoyable wait. :)

This is a courtesy heads-up: I have a lot on my RL plate at the moment and will be going into hospital soon. I’ll be back home and recuperating on my Tuesday/your Monday. I won’t be able to post as Tairin until then. Dain GM, if necessary, please bot Tairin in the meanwhile. Thanks kindly. :)

No worries, Tairin - thank you for telling me what's up.
Meantime, please rest up and get better soon!
Patenemheb Sitayet
Sorry to hear that Tairin. Take care!
I was occupied yesterday, will be posting today.
Dain GM
At this point I'd like to clarify something:
When I invited people to play one major point is that I need players who participate on a daily basis; barring weekends and holidays.
I understand that Real Life happens, but taking a moment to let me know via a post indicating that you cannot post today, when you'll be back, and a preference (if any) for people who should bot you is something that I need to happen.
I'm not telling anyone how to play, but that's how I want to run my game and I think that's pretty reasonable.
That said, I'm going to be offline for a few days on personal matters and should be back on my Sunday night (though I may be able to post again in the next few hours).
Thanks!
Patenemheb Sitayet
I normally manage a daily post, or to communicate when I won't be available. Between fatigue or other matters eating my attention, I sometimes don't manage either. I will do my best to at least message.
Patenemheb Sitayet
Does anyone recall if we secured any simple ranged weapons or hand crossbows? Patenemheb could use a ranged weapon if it is available.
Patenemheb Sitayet
That would be a fine thing!
That is if Talar were present, and there were time. ;)
But offer appreciated!
Dain GM
Again, something I am happy to craft myself to save us money.
Talar will return after roughly an hour of riding.
Crafting takes a long time In-Game, even with the house rule I made to make sure that Crafting is something that can be done faster than normal; it will be something that could be handy, but you definitely wouldn't have time to craft anything before this adventure, unfortunately.
Also, given that I wrote it would take you about a half hour to get from the Temple to the gates of the city leading your horse through the crowded streets, I can only assume an hour of hard riding is after you leave the city, meaning you'd be returning to house after (roughly) 2 hours of travel, but being gone from the city for roughly an hour and a half.
This means you would not be returning to the city until after the party is well-on their way. Can you please let me know how your return with the party is meant to work so I understand what's going on from my end?
Thanks!
Patenemheb Sitayet
A heads up. I won't be available to post at all on Friday, and I likely won't have much availability until Sunday evening or Monday evening.
