There are innumerable entities and organizations in the galaxy, and some represent unique factions yet to make major inroads with the Starfinder Society. During the course of play, it’s possible for a character to receive a special Chronicle sheet reward that allows admission into one of these new factions. The rules for joining these factions, as well as gaining reputation and spending Fame for faction-specific rewards, will be listed with the associated Chronicle sheet.

Ummm....so are they saying we're gonna get the chance to "trailblazer" a new faction at some point? That's kind of cool!

Yes.

The capstone for one of the current factions also allows you to use as-yet-to-be-released ships instead of Pegasus or Drake.

There's lots of enticing hints of future release Chronicles scattered through the Guide.

As silly as this question sounds, for society what point system are we using?

Liberty's Edge 4/5 5/55/55/5 ****

The one in CRB.

Start at 10, mod for race and theme, then 10 points to spread out up to 18.

So ten point buy? If that is the case....brutal but I can work with this.

Spend 1 for 1, whether you go from 10 to 11 or from 17 to 18

so stats like 12 16 12 12 12 8 are valid stats?

Don't know what race you picked but looks okay so far, just know that you don't get anything for dumping a stat.

Ah, then one of those should be increased by +1 for the Theme, other than that, yep!

Assuming you're building with a race that has +2, +2, -2 modifiers, yes.
Reducing an ability below 10 doesn't gain you any extra points.

1) Forgot the theme.
2) Seriously ninja'd (Operatived?) by Rysky. (well, slow responding ;) What happened to the board feature that told you there were new posts?)

Not that brutal

Keep in mind that by level 5, you will be looking at:
12 20 14 14 14 8 (Mk 1 augmentation)

level 10
14 22 16 18 16 8 (Mk 1&2 augmentation)

Try to get those stats in PFS...

While both are d20 systems, I think we will find that Starfinder plays very differently in combat.

For one thing, the low-level problem of "Oops, the bad guy critted and you are now dead" has gone away. Anyone who remembers that NPC that carried the 4x crit weapon in an earlier PFS season (can't remember his name right now) will rejoice. I think it was a scythe.

I also like the idea that sentient beings, even goblins, aren't going to be as swattable as flies.

Back to the OP though. I love the new character development elements in SFS. I just hope I can keep the book keeping to a minimum.
