Can you climb a vertical cliff face with an ioun stone equipped?

Rules Questions

...Or would your head being within one foot of the cliff cause the join stone's orbit to be interrupted?

Similar question: What about sleeping? (Assume horizontal sleeping on a flat surface, not Batman-style.)

I would assume that climbing or sleeping would cause the ioun stone to just shift its orbit over to the side or upwards so that it didn't hit anything.

ioun stone are said to evade anything in their path to continue to orbit your head (unless you want to take them), so i would say its like Mac said, they will shift their orbit if necessary

i read this as can you climb a verbal cliff face with an ioun stone.... but yes you could climb a cliff with an ioun stone you dont even need it orbiting if you get a wayfinder.

as for sleeping i would say it orbits around the top point of your face when sleeping so either your ears or nose while sleeping but usually people done sleep with their ioun stones on

Seems reasonable.

There are a few stones that would be less effective if you had to remove them to sleep. Fortunately, they're few, and if you get lucky enough to come across one, there's always a wayfinder or implantation, I suppose.

Mostly, I'm looking to see how practical it is to keep stones equipped in everyday adventuring situations. Obviously it gets rather weird when walking down the road or chatting up a barkeep anywhere outside of Sigil or something. But things like climbing, swimming, burrowing, tumbling, all come to mind as well.

I think the issue with sleeping would be less the stone's orbit being interrupted and more with a small object zipping around while you're trying to sleep

Oh, I dunno. If it settles into a stable, slow orbit then it might be rather hypnotic. Like watching a ceiling fan on the lowest sett...Zzzzzz...

... has there even been an item made that's like a mosquito zapper... except for Ioun Stones?

Sure, but that only holds one stone--unless you have an expensive multi-slot wayfinder. (Not sure why there are no stats for wayfinder with multiple slots and no other extra abilities, but here we are.) Multiple wayfinders with stones are generally a no-no.

I suppose you could have the stones implanted into your body. There are rules for that.

Noted above, but thanks!
