What should I save up for as a Witch

Advice

I have been reading guides and it says the highest priority should be a Headband of Vast Intelligence. We are currently level 2, i have 600gp, eventually someone in the group will get craft wonderous item. Should I wait until level 8 in order to save 2k gold? or is it advisable as soon as I get 4k gold to buy one? Are there any other items with a cost of 4k or less that you would recommend?

These are okay, but the Witching Gown is my preferred witch specific item. A bit beyond level 2 wealth, though.

The intelligence headbands will give you most bang for your buck. I'd get the +2 ASAP.

Some magic items under 4,000 gp that may be useful for a witch:

Body slot-
robe of needles (1,000 gp)
bodywrap of mighty strikes (3,000 gp); for a white-haired witch or one with unarmed strikes/natural attacks

Chest slot-
quick runner's shirt (1,000 gp); for a fast getaway

Eyes slot-
deathwatch eyes (2,000 gp); if undead are a common foe
pirate's eye patch (2,600 gp); if in a campaign on or around water fairly often
spectacles of understanding (3,000 gp)

Feet slot-
boots of the cat (1,000 gp)
boots of the winterlands (2,500 gp); if in a campaign where cold weather conditions, ice/snow, etc. are common

Hands slot-
apprentice's cheating gloves (2,200 gp)

Neck slot-
hand of the mage (900 gp); if all you want is mage hand (without prestidigitation as well from apprentice's cheating gloves)
aegis of recovery (1,500 gp); usually a worthwhile investment

Shoulders slot-
cloak of the hedge wizard (2,500 gp); if you also have a hand of the mage, pick a school other than Transmutation
cloak of fiery vanishing (2,600 gp); if fire-using foes are fairly common (combined with a quick runner's shirt, can help a lot in getting out of a bad situation)

Slotless-
traveler's any-tool (250 gp); extremely useful in many situations, especially if the witch has an appropriate Craft skill
bottled misfortune (500 gp); can be combined with a needle from a robe of needles
pearl of power (1st) (1,000 gp)
pipes of the sewers (1,150 gp); if the witch has Perform (Wind)
handy haversack (2,000 gp)
elemental gem (2,250 gp); single use, but can be very useful
hexing doll (2,500 gp)
cauldron of brewing (3,000 gp); if the witch has Craft (Alchemy) and especially if the witch has the Cauldron hex

Also, a +1 haramaki (1,153 gp) grants +2 armor AC for when you don't have mage armor active and has no armor check penalty or arcane failure chance. Similarly, a +1 mithral buckler (2,505 gp) grants a +2 shield AC bonus without an armor check penalty or spell failure chance.

What about Threefold Aspect at level 7, it gives me +4 to INT, doesn't cost a thing. Is waiting that long too late? I could essentially spend my money on other items like a lesser metamagic Rime rod for example.

Well, it does cost you one of your two highest spell slots. If you're happy with that, go for it.

But, I'd say, from a pure optimisation point of view, the headband will eclipse all other equipment on a benefit:cost analysis.

I wouldn't be saving the 600gp. Rather, I would spend it on consumables (scrolls) and non-magic stuff (haramaki, alchemical items,
a mithril buckler (unenchanted, it's still a +1 to AC), a mount if you have the ride skill, trained animals if you have handle animal).

You should have a headband by level 5/6 ish normally, other items to consider would be a cloak of resistance, which you should get earlier, a belt of con, which you should get later and a cracked pale green prism ioun stone. Which you should get later.

Witches don't really need much besides that. Wands and scrolls are both worthwhile, particularly if you find some spells you want to learn. If you have cackle then a cackling hag's blouse is normally going to be useful. If you want to do something novel with your shoulders then take a witching gown once you have the money to replace the shoulders for a net loss of 1 to your saves with some other fun benefits and a free shoulder slot.
