Does firing a firearm provoke AoO? What about when used by a Gunslinger?

Rules Questions

See the thread title. I see in Ultimate Combat where it clearly states that loading a firearm provokes an AoO, but I cannot find a specific mention as regards to firing a firearm.

Any help on the subject is greatly appreciated.

Making any form of ranged attack that involves a roll to hit, provokes, barring any special mechanics that would indicate otherwise. Just being a Gunslinger is not one of them.

It doesn't need to tell you that making an attack with a firearm provokes in ultimate combat because, as Drahliana points out, it already tells you in the CRB that all ranged attacks provoke.

Drahliana said it, loading firearms is a new mechanic different from loading, say, a bow or Xbow, so had to be spelled out, but making a ranged attack is covered in the basic rules, no special cases for firearms or gunslingers.

This, See CRB>Combat>Actions in Combat.

Thanks for the input. That's the way I've been running it, but I wanted to be sure.

So, if an enemy has combat reflex that can get a lot of AoO against a gun wielding enemy if they're in range.

That's why a 5-foot step can be so important,
which is why step-up can be so important,
which is why point blank master can be so important!

Or you can take the Gunslinger feat at 4th level.

interesting feat, and not in a book I own

If you're a Gunslinger, you may want Deft Shootist instead. It prevents you from provoking when reloading and shooting. Gunslinger is just shooting.

it's interesting, but the feat tax is much greater to get it

OTOH, if you're not using a revolver or some other multi-shot weapon, it's not a lot of help to eat AoO when you reload, but now when you fire.
