methods of returning to my magic shop.

Advice

The Exchange

so, my dwarf item crafter wizard owns a magic item shop, its managed by an apprentice when he's off adventuring,
but i would like to be able to return (preferably with my party) during downtime.
are there any magic items and/or other methods of being able to periodically return to a location?
or will i have to buy scrolls of teleport in bulk?

Buying teleport casting as a service is cheaper than scrolls.

Any permanent means of return (permanent teleportation circles etc.) is going to be significantly more expensive.

Boots of teleportation, 49k. That's a bit over 43 scrolls of teleportation. Though, of course, being able to use teleport 3 times/day is a lot more useful than just going back and forth to your shop.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Have you considered a horse?

Do you want to return to your shop and then return to where you left from?
If so that is two problems.

I would ask you GM if you could, create a magic item that allowed you to teleport from your location back to your shop only.
In the past I have created two rugs linked with such magic and you could only teleport between the two. The circle on the rug provided the limiting factor if you could teleport or not, ie everything inside the circle teleported to the other circle.
As a limiting factor you can have the run weigh a fair amount or say if the rug in location A has stuff on it then you cannot teleport or if you teleport back to location A then you have to teleport back to where you left in 3 to 5 days or the magic is broken.
There is also the drawback of you leaving one teleport rug in one location and you leaving for another location. There is always a chance that someone/something will take your teleport rug and it will be lost.
Note: Have to be created in pairs and if you lose one or one is significantly damaged then the other one does not function.

Quite a few GM's are fine with such things as they provide limits on teleporting and travel vs just handing out teleport scrolls or items.

What level, what craft feats do you have, who are your other party members, what level and what gp investment?

Phantom Steed is pretty effective if you don't wander to far. 8 miles per caster level per day(cap 80 miles)

Overland Flight is 64 miles per day and less risky as you are flying

Teleport isn't good enough unless you want several days there and several days back

Summoners make greater teleport scrolls cheapest

Tree stride is a 5th level druid spell. Use tokens(can't remember what kind) to grow a big tree outside the shop. Then you can use another token to tree stride back from there. If you do this with scrolls buy ranger version of this as it is cheaper

You can pay for a demiplane with the entrance outside your shop(summoner is cheapest). Then whenever you want to at least get to the shop a 9th level cleric can plane shift you there. If you advertise it also might attract customers

Shadow Walk comes online at lv11 and works well for this

Agreed with much of Carlson said. Staff of Greater Teleport(10 charges) costs 7280. 14560 for 5 charges so you can go there and come back. Perhaps base the item off that starting point. Can add restrictions like only there and back, only 1 person with up to 200lb of stuff, etc. to lower price. Might also add a bit back on so you don't need spell slots to recharge it and so it is usable more than once every 10 days

How so? Teleport has a range of 900 miles plus. That's got to be quicker than flying.

.....Think I got my teleports confused. Was thinking the table was worse than that. Ignore most my post. Probably shouldn't post at 4 am

Why not just use planar binding on some random outsider and have them ferry you there and back in a bag of holding?

I have a similar character who uses ring gates combined with shrink item and gaseous form. He only comes out of the rings into the dungeon when the party really needs him and spends the rest of his time crafting in his shop. 100 mile limit.
