Smallest playable character

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

I'm looking for a way to shrink a character 2 or more size categories??

Reduce person and similar don't stack, i'm looking if there is another way, item, ability, spell, feat, etc that would stack?

Forget cost really, i'm just trying to determine a possible way for it to happen. I have an idea for a character creation that his goal in life is to be as small as possible, because it makes you more awesome (... not entirely correct... but he'll believe it as part of his odd backstory). It can be exorbitantly expensive, but that just mean his end goal will be there for a long time... but if it isn't at all possible, i'll have to come up with another idea.

Any spellcaster even witch, so there are normal races that are small, and very few tiny characters that have ever made it to player type characters (i likely won't be able to play those anyway). But still the question made me try exploring many pathfinder and even 3.5 books to find an answer - no real luck yet.

How can you change yourself 2 or more size categories smaller?? Any ideas will be appreciated.

How are you planning to carry stuff?

Does the "gear for small sized characters weigh half as much as the same item for medium sized characters" keep extending? (i.e. 1/4 for tiny, 1/8 for diminutive, 1/16 for fine?) If so, I think the biggest problem will be "carrying money" since a gold piece would be bigger than you.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Mythic Reduce Person will do it.

Much easier to just play a Kitsune. They can trade out their enchantment bonus for Fox Shape. Tiny sized PC at level one.

Druid can Wild Shape into a bat, which is diminutive.

Songbird of Doom has a very convoluted way of playing an effective tiny hummingbird. Being a tiny humingbird in this build is done by an item.

A druid can be a diminutive animal at lv 8, a magic item listed in the songbird thread could let him speak.

Occultists with a transmutation implement can pick up Size Alteration to change any creature up or down one size category for a few rounds. It doesn't stack with reduce person, but can be used on any creature type.

Druid is probably the best option. Animal Companion has enough carrying capacity to carry your gear in saddlebags, and if you are okay with not getting the DR and immunities from becoming an elemental, there are a lot of good animals to turn into. My favorite is bat, since its diminutive (+4 attack/AC, +6 fly, +12 stealth), has a good fly speed, and gets blindsense to help center AoE crowd control and faerie fire, and helps use obscuring mist/fog cloud as a defensive buff centered on yourself without losing much in the way of offense.

Its really nice when your combat spell list is mostly touch attacks, ranged attacks, or AoE control/minor damage spells. Especially considering you also have a pet tiger/velociraptor/ankylosaurus/etc doing melee damage and keeping enemies away from you.

If you do not have to stay human and you are up to using some old D&D 3.0 stuff as a base to racial idea on, the L5R Oriental Adventures Hengeyokai race (p10 as I was looking at it for something else) can change into a small, tiny or diminutive creature depending on what race you pick.

It's late level, but a Sylvan (wildblooded fey) sorcerer gets a 2-step reduction at lvl 15. Gets you to diminutive with a small starting race, or Fine with a foxformed kitsune.

Also gets an AC for carrying stuff.

Beast-Bonded Witches can Polymorph into animals like their Famililars

Get back to my computer and see some awesome responses. Thanks all.

...and for all you people talking about carrying stuff.. HA, be creative. Portable holes are good in a pinch... and lackeys, party members, familiars, etc.

Mythic Reduce Person, as i'm reading goes to only Tiny.
Druid wildshape goes to Diminutive.
Sylvan lvl15 is saying 1 size smaller (or am i mistaken), not 2?
which, Fox + Fey Wings = Diminutive.

Any way to get to Fine? I'm not seeing one yet.

3rd Part Content (DSP Psionics):

Compression - Reduce yourself one size category, augment for 2 size categories.

Metamorphosis - one option is to reduce 2 size categories. If you have the 8th level Transmogrofist(sp) ability, you can increase the effect by 50%, so 3 size categories.

Get (un)lucky with a Rod of Wonder?

Compression isn't augmented, unless i missed it?

Metamorphosis... this one is nice.
You'd have to make yourself Tiny first, then do it - but it seems possible. The duration is crappy, but it's a start.

And... Rod of Wonder.. that is glorious.
... Seems like the item for when you get bored. You craft/find it and secure it to a middle of a random square... and sit back and watch the peasants have some really weird days playing with that thing.

If you and your GM are okay with having to make up the rules for how exactly it would work, you could use Polymorph any object to turn yourself into one of the diminutive or fine creatures out there, possibly using one of the above methods to shrink from diminutive to fine.

I would suggest being a gnome and turning into a Sprite or Elder Witchlight. Gnome to get the +2 "related bonus" to the duration.

Metamorphosis' duration is bad, but two feats can get it down to a swift action to manifest, and, if you take the Metamorph Prestige Class, its capstone is making Metamorphosis permanent. (level 15 earliest, though)
