Going to Pieces

Advice

I've noticed there are a few ways to send your own body parts off to do their own thing, and it makes me wonder if its possible to make a character (if not a very useful one) that combines a bunch of them.

The ones I can think of off the top of my head:

The Eyebiter archetype for Mesmerist can have one of their eyes pop out and float around as a familiar.

The Possessed Hand/Hand's Autonomy/Hand's Detachment feat chain lets one of your hands detach and move around, also potentially functioning as a familiar.

The Skinsend spell has all your skin peel off your body and wander around for a few hours.

An Alchemist's Tumor Familiar is a gross chunk of your body that can detach and re-attach itself whenever.

Are there more ways to detach other body parts?

Edit: The Swarm of Fangs spell technically isnt *your* teeth, but you could pretend it was.

The magic jar spell sends your soul out on its own. Astral projection sends your soul to another plane.

In more ordinary body parts there's the earsend spell.

A chon chon elixir can detach your head and have it fly around on ear-wings - probably not compatible with earsend. With alchemical allocation you could reuse the elixir later. If you were suicidal, anyway.

Ooh, I didn't know earsend existed. I feel like there must be more, but I can't find or think of them.

Swarm skin sort of does the same thing as skin send, although it isn't really your body parts themselves that are moving and they can travel in different directions (with a sufficiently high caster level).

I was actually considering a build like this also. Going Eyebiter, taking the Hand and Countenanced Carbuncle feat (so both hands are possessed,) and at least Autonomy and Detachment. All the parts being free!

Wheres the Countenanced Carbuncle feat from? Haven't heard of it and searching turns up nothing.

It's from the Vampire Hunter D book. It's basically identical to the Possessed Hand feat (so the bonuses won't stack,) but I figure since it is called something different, you should be able to take it to give yourself another possessed hand.

It also has a similarly parallel feat tree to PH, but there are a couple extra ones.

EDIT: Should note that this is not PFS friendly, if that's an issue.

Strangling hair is a spell that lets you fight people with your hair and Witches get a similar thing in a hex.
Vomit swarm summons a swarm but you throw it up instead of summoning

not exactly detaching body parts but sort of follows the theme.

There was also a form in the 3.5 Swarm-shifter undead template. One of the modes was a pile of body parts.

Found the "Decollate" spell in Horror Adventures. Lets you remove an entire head.

Liberty's Edge

Occultists' Soulbound Puppet ability doesn't specify you need to use someone else's bone.

Quote:
Soulbound Puppet (Su): As a full-round action, you can expend 1 point of mental focus to create a soulbound puppet from a bone, doll, or skull. If you use a bone or a skull, your power builds a Tiny or Small flesh puppet around it that vaguely resembles the original creature from which the bones were taken. If the implement is a doll, the doll comes to life. Treat this as a familiar, using your occultist level as your wizard level to determine its powers and abilities. By using a bone or skull from the appropriate creature or a doll shaped like that creature, you can select any of the familiar choices available to a wizard. You can instead use a humanoid bone, doll, or skull, to give the puppet the base statistics of a homunculus (Bestiary 176), but without a fly speed or the poison bite or telepathic link abilities. No matter the form, this creature is a construct with an alignment matching your own. You can have no more than one soulbound puppet active at any given time. The soulbound puppet remains animated for 10 minutes per occultist level you possess.

Animate a rib and send it off to do your bidding! Though, getting it back into your body will be tricky . . .

Object possession is a cheaper and more intuitive magic jar-type spell.

Now we just gotta figure out the best way to combine these, and whether or not you want it for PFS. I don't play society, so I can kind of go with whatever we end up hammering out.

One more. Shadow Projection sends off your shadow; and yes, you have no shadow while it's gone.

The easiest way to get access to most of these is to use the sorcerer/wizard list. Since there's quite a variety of them sorcerer's out. The aberrant bloodline to get a tumor familiar sounds good though so maybe a arcanist with the blood arcanist (aberrant) archetype.

Do we take the one level dip into Eyebiter for this? I mean, I know we can't have 2 familiars, but I almost think the eye works better for the concept. I know the tumor is more functional and can do more, I think I would just prefer to try to keep it to stock body parts. Are we running with the idea that Possessed Hand and Countenanced Carbuncle won't give you stacking bonuses, but will give you two talking hands, as well as the idea that most of the feats will trigger for both?

I, personally, wouldn't worry about the carbuncle one, because I don't use third-party stuff.

I'm not sure theres a great way to get the eye and tumor familiars and still do well. You'd have to dip either Mesmerist or Alchemist, and thats gonna hurt spell progression on whichever you decide to keep going with.

Plus I don't think you can get every one of those spells on either one of their lists. Seems like none of them are on the Mesmerist list at all. Swarm Skin specifically is Witch/Druid only.
