Entry Level Game for New Players [Because how hard can it be?]

Recruitment

Hi...

I have been looking for a Pathfinder game for quite sometime, as I haven't found one I have decided to try and start my own.

I have no real experience playing Rpgs and as such will be sticking to a very 'by the numbers'format for the campaign.

If you are interested please post below :).

More experienced players are also welcome.

So what kind of adventure are you thinking of running? There's a ton of options for pathfinder. Will you be running this, or are you looking to play?

Pompey I would be willing to run a small one off for a few lower level players if that is what you wish.

alexgndl: I was planning to GM it myself, if someone with more experience turns up I would be happy to concede that role to them. I am not really sure what sort of game I want to run and would very much like to receive input from prospective players.

Alaric the Barbarian: That would certainly be most welcome.

@Pompey
Since your new and starting out as a New GM, I recommend using a module for your first adventure and there are a few free modules.
I also recommend restricting things to Core Rule Book Only so you don't get overwhelmed with content.
And really recommend the use of 20 point buy for character creation

I would recommend...

This! :-)

Thanks, I was actually about to mention sticking to the Core Rule-books :). I'll take a look at those modules.

I recommend Hollow's Last Hope as a new GM module. As it gives you a good starter town, is free, covers various gameplay and GM aspects, and if you want to continue there are sequel modules, or you can homebrew the continuation.

Link to my First GMing experience, which was Hollow's Last Hope

@DM Azure_Zero Thanks for the support, gonna check out both those links now :)

I would be very interested in joining if you or someone else is going to DM. I have played a lot IRL but left makes gathering in mass difficult at this point. Let me know.

I added some spice to what was in Hollow's last hope.... heheheh.

And I took me quite a while to improve my GMing skill, but I also came up with some nice PBP tricks that helped me as GM and the players.

Last game I GMed to completion

I would be interested in joining, but really only if I can play a kitsune magus with the black blade archetype. I know it sounds complex, but I just manage to get hung up on intelligent weapons every time. The kitsune is just one I like because of shapeshifting. If I could play that, I would join in a heartbeat. If you don't know where to find Magus, it's in the Ultimate Magic book. The Kitsune is in the Advanced Race Guide.

is that Book or Books?

as a new GM, I really recommend that players only have the ONE book (the CRB), The GM can have the CRB, needed monster materials and the adventure.

I understand that CRB is easier to work with early on. I was just inquiring as to whether I could use those books. If not, I still enjoy several things from the CRB, just not quite as much. I would still join a strictly CRB campaign.

PS: I would also like to point out that I'm not the dictionary definition of entry-level, but I would still enjoy playing, & would even help mentor my team.

@Clayton Wyman I think that would be fine, bear in mind this game would start at level 1.

@DM Azure_Zero I have all the core and advanced rule books. As well as at least two of the Bestiarys

There is a reason why Player CRB only is recommended for new GMs, it stops a number of broken combos, and powergaming that can ruin the game for everyone sans the powergamer. If the GM is unhappy with the game, the game will die.

I know since I was in a few RL games with new GMs (including myself as GM) where broken combos ruined the game for players and the GM. Hence why the restriction to CRB only for players is recommended until you feel more experience as a GM, and only add one book at a time.

CRB is actually pretty broken on it's own. It needs tons of balancing based on the campaign. I feel this is something people don't bring up much, but CRB can break badly.

Adventure thread is up so check it out if you're interested :).
