same with leadership feat.
Just have 1 baddie lv20 with leadership, and his cohort with leadership. The Followers are up to lv6 enemies. You could easily have an entire dungeon and guards all give no EXP because they were just leadership minions. Especially nasty if most of those where people that summoned.
Animal companions are the same, no EXP as they are part of a class feature. Fight a ton of companions and eidolons, character runs off and gets a new one for the next day.
Fight over 100 enemies. Gain no EXP. =)

Or give out XP as normal for the feature creatures, but subtract it out from the boss' when they finally defeat it. That way balance is maintained but the players don't feel screwed in the meantime.

I have seen sources say that you do get experience from defeating summons if you do not face the summoner before he gets his spells back. It would be up to the GM to determine the amount of exp as summons have weaknesses that the base creatures do not. I do not remember if that was a 3.5 response or not.
