Req: highest constitution check at lvl 1

Advice

I'm trying to build a character at level 1 with the highest constitution check I can get. Must be PFS legal and have 500 gold to spend. Thinking Dwarf with 20 in Constitution but not sure if there is anything else I can do. I need high general constitution check (not just holding breath for example).

Thanks in advance.

why do you want such a high constitution check?

The highest you're going to get is probably a barbarian that buys an 18 in con and has (can have) a racial bonus to con (dwarf/human/half-elf/half-orc).

Corruption boon. I need to make a random constitution check to progress in the boon (ghoul). Plan on revising the character before I get to level 2.

If the corruption boons work on the mechanics that were presented in Horror Adventures....using it at all would be very detrimental to virtually any character.

Its detrimental for a couple scenarios. First step, I can only eat a little food and one scenario, I'm sickened the entire scenario. At random time, determined by gm, I must make a con 10 or will 20 save. I can't remember phase two check but last one is getting an atonement spell. I get some nifty advantages once I finish all the checks.

Is this a straight up CON check or can you buff the check with other abilities, like traits or class bonuses?

Reads as "a constitution check 10 or will save 20"

Core Barbarian (Human)
15, 12, 20, 7, 12, 7
Feat: Raging Vitality
Feat: Free

Whenever you have to make the check, free action rage to get +6 to constitution for a total of +8 to your Constitution check. You'll succeed on anything except a natural one.

18 Con, +2 racial, barbarian to rage (+4 con) is probably your best bet, assuming you know when to rage for the check.
Transmutation wizard can give you a +1 on Con. If you can find another way to get another +1 that would be better.
Warpriest luck blessing gives you a minute where you can reroll an ability check. Or nobility would give you a +2 on the check for on minute. Again, you'd have to know ahead of time when the check would come.

I think shroudedin light nailed it. With gm star reroll, it would be an auto pass (even with -2 to sickened condition). The other options don't work as I wouldn't know when the check was coming.

Not sure if the GM would let you rage as a free action in response to making a check. Personally, I don't think I would. The check would happen, and you could free action rage after.

I found some trait bonuses for you.

Inspired: A positive force, philosophy, or divine presence fills you with hope, and is a guiding force of inspiration. Once per day as a free action, roll twice and take the better result on a skill check or ability check.

Also you could pick up Adopted for the Halfing trait.
Adaptable Luck: Some halflings have greater control over their innate luck. This ability gives them more options for how they can apply their good fortune from day to day, but also narrows its scope. Three times per day, a halfling can gain a +2 luck bonus on an ability check, attack roll, saving throw, or skill check. If halflings choose to use the ability before they make the roll or check, they gain the full +2 bonus; if they choose to do so afterward, they only gain a +1 bonus. Using adaptive luck in this way is not an action. This racial trait replaces halfling luck.

Those two would let you get a +2 on the check and roll twice taking the better result.

Thanks.

Did they already put a corruption in a low level PFS scenario? Weird.

Grand Lodge

I think they're talking about one of the Gencon Player boons, not something from a scenario.

If you don't want a barbarian a human could take "Inexplicable Luck" to guarantee success on a 2. With the re-roll from inspired and another from a t-shirt you're looking at a 1 in 500 chance on failing the check.

Corruption rolls don't allow rerolls or temporary bonuses, unless I'm misremembering. They represent long-term resistance to the corruption rather than a single check.

This makes sense to me.

As a GM (not that I'm a PFS GM) I would say the save against the corruption represent an on-going struggle, non-permanent bonuses (things that last less than 24 hrs) wouldn't apply. So the con bonus from rage certainly wouldn't apply if I were GMing this, you might want to inquire with a VC about it before making choices.

I can see the arguments both ways and I'm a local VL for my region. I'll kick up to VC so we can clarify and have consistent application in region. Yes, it's a convention boon.
