Favorite Player Companion?

Product Discussion

Hi! I'm interested in picking up a few player companions, but there's so many to choose from! What are your favorite player companions? What do you think are the ones you use the most?

Weapon Master's Handbook is good, lots of interesting options.

Heroes of the Streets has interesting archetypes.

Dirty Tactics Toolbox has fun maneuver options.

The Harrow Handbook has both fun options and archetypes.

Those are my faves.

Sovereign Court

Pathfinder Starfinder Society Subscriber

The one that got me to start subscribing was the Familiar Folio. I was planning to build a Duettist Bard, but the Chosen One paladin archetype was a surprise favorite.

It really depends on what characters you like to play and what you are using right now.
Animal Archive, Weapon Masters Handbook and Armour Masters Handbook all currently see a great deal of use or have inspired me to embrace my martial side.
Love me some 'blood of' books too (mostly).
When I put together a Wizard - Monster Summoners Handbook was indispensible, but when not playing one, it sits on the shelf.

Cohorts and Companions and Blood of the Elements I found underwhelming.

Haunted Heroes Handbook and Weapon Master's Handbook are probably my top picks.

Plenty of good stuff, I guess, but the one I want to check out (I've read none), is Legacy of Dragons.

I'll second the Familiar Folio. The Heroes books are pretty good too.

Wow...decisions, decisions... There is a reason I have become a Player Companion Subscriber: I haven't found one I didn't want in recent history (like, the last year approximately).

Love the Tactics books, Anthologies, Heroes, Blood of (recently "Blood of Shadows" was really good!), Master Handbooks (Weapon Master and Armor)...

The Alchemy Manual is one of my favorites. The Spontaneous Alchemy rules introduced in there are great. While a lot isn't exclusive for Alchemists, being someone who likes the Alchemist class helps a lot.

But the Weapon Master Handbook and Armor Master Handbook are the two I'd have to say are the best. Hands down. Mandatory for anyone playing a Fighter, the Advanced Weapon/Armor Training are just that good. The Shield feats in Armor Master Handbook are also great.

Silver Crusade

I'm a big fan of the Familiar Folio and Weapon Master Handbook.

I really want to check out the Armor Master Handbook at some point, but I just haven't gotten around to it. The Weapon Master book is great for my fighters, of which I currently have 3 in PFS at levels 1 and 2, looking forward to grabbing lots of weapon options from the WMH at higher levels.

The Familiar Folio has really inspired me to make more PCs with familiars, starting with a Chosen One Paladin. Since then, I've also made a witch, a druid with the monkey domain (monkey familiar), and a wizard. I now have PCs using 3 of the familiar archetypes from this book (decoy skunk!). Actually, the witch isn't using anything from that book, though her familiar does have options from the Animal Archive, which is also pretty good.

Blood of Shadows was really good.

Believe it or not, Magic Tactics Toolbox has some good stuff for fighters as well. More Item Mastery feats and options for Advanced Weapon Training that are really cool.

Warrior Spirit gives fighters ability similar to Divine Bond (weapon version) for Paladin...

The names I've seen thrown around the most so far seem to be the Armor/Weapon Master's Handbooks, the Blood Of books, and the Familiar Folio.
How many Blood of books are there? I have Blood of the Moon (it was cool), but I'm not sure what others are out there.
How much of the stuff in the Master's Handbooks is useful for non-fighter martials?

Silver Crusade

If you're thinking of playing an aasimar or tiefling character, then Blood of Angels and Blood of Fiends, respectively, are definitely worth getting.

There are a ton of feats and stuff for martials in the Weapon Master Handbook. I bought it while looking at how to make a viable thrown weapon build, and I almost went warpriest with it. I ended up going fighter instead, just to take advantage of the weapon training stuff, on top of the feats I'd have used as a warpriest.

So far:

Blood of Angels
Blood of Devils
Blood of the Moon
Blood of Shadows

Soon: Blood of Beasts

Am I missing any?

Blood of Fiends, Blood of Angels, Blood of the Night, Blood of the Moon, Blood of the Elements, Blood of Shadows, and soon Blood of the Beast is, I believe, the complete list.

I'm also fond of the various Tactics Toolbox books...Ranged Tactics Toolbox, Melee Tactics Toolbox, Dirty Tactics Toolbox, and Magic Tactics Toolbox.

As others have said, the Weapon Master's Handbook and Armor Master's Handbook are good.

I also enjoyed Heroes of the Wild and Heroes of the Streets, hopefully Heroes of the High Court will be as good.

Also quite liked Animal Archive, Familiar Folio, Cohorts & Companions, and Monster Summoner's Handbook, but I generally enjoy pet classes...
