how big is a medium dragon?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

is there stats on its size or weight? i think a young dragon should be much larger then a monitor lizard or dog. please if you know where to look for the size and weight of a young medium sized dragon give me some links.

Well, by definition as a medium sized creature, it can only be a maximum of 8 feet long and 500 pounds.

So just google some images of 8 foot long sharks, only with legs and wings to take up some more volume.

For M-sized, I tend to think alligator (at least for size/length of torso and tail).

Probably depends on whether the dragon is at the lower end/middle end/upper end of the age range for their age category.

Yeah, I wanted to go there too (because hey- large reptiles for a dragon discussion)... but most of the googled pics for that has some guy sitting on them. So... not as an impressive an image.

The shark pics looked much better. They just seemed more stout for their size range.

Wow. I'll take "Bad Ideas" for $1000, Alex.

Oh, until they get to the later age brackets, dragons are far from safe against all threats. Making an agreement with the right humanoid can provide benefits to both sides.

I've always described them as a being the size of a wolf.

Well, most Medium dragons are only in the "Young" or "Very Young" range or so. Depending on the dragon type, many "Young" dragons are already large (Red, Green, Bronze, Gold, etc.). So, no, a Medium dragon probably isn't all that impressive to look at.

Until you consider the added volume provided by the wings. It would be completely reasonable for a dragon with a length of 8 feet (nose to tail) to have a wingspan of 20+ feet. Furled, it doesn't appear as much, but when rearing on its hind legs and spreading its wings, the dragon would be far more intimidating.

(Animal wing span in the real world is often in excess of twice to three times the animals nose to tail length. Of course, a dragon could have much smaller wings in a magical world, but pictures of dragons with itty-bitty wings look more comical than believable.)

Since dragons grow, they can be any size. A medium dragon is somewhere around any other medium creature and not small enough to be considered small or large enough to be considered large.

Anywhere from the size of a st bernard to a bit under 4 feet at the shoulder (small horse size).

This seems to be the canonical answer: http://paizo.com/products/btpy91sj?Pathfinder-Battles-Red-Dragon-Evolution- Boxed-Set

3.5s Draconomicon has specific size charts for dragons based on type.

Example.

Apologies for garbage formatting. The actual table doesn't copy too well.
