Witch Wife Familiar

Advice

So I've been at it again making a million different characters for Pathfinder and I realized that I hadn't made a somewhat silly character in a couple of weeks (an intentionally silly one, that is). That is where this character comes in, this married man with his unfortunate wife. She's not sick or dying, she's just been turned into my character's familiar by a rather powerful, disgruntled rival witch from Irrisen and my character is desperately trying to find a way to get her back to her old self before she figures out a way and bites his head off.

The question is what class should I play for this unlucky bastard and his nagging wife who's been turned into a raven? Any class will do as long as I can get a raven familiar at level 1. Frankly I am not too picky with the familiar type as long as I can get them to speak at level 1 and nag him.

There's a Wizard archetype that treats its familiar as being someone's soul in an animal body, complete with using any class for BAB/save progression and getting a few feats.

Edit: Spirit Binder

Ah yes, I remember that one. I had a Qadiran merchant that was a Spirit Binder wizard whose familiar was his dead paladin daughter. Interesting idea for sure, but I am not quite convinced (especially since I really do want her to have been a Jadigwa witch before she became feathery).

It's mostly a matter of refluffing- you'll have to talk to the GM about it anyhow. You can see if any of the Blood Hex feats work for her. Alternatively or additionally, a school familiar gets some magical abilities of its own, although they're more wizardly than witchy.

You could go non caster if funny is what you are looking for. Iron Will and Familiar Bond feats. Maybe a Fighter or Rogue type who might benefit from Iron Will feat.

A Rogue might have stolen from the rival witch, or double crossed her in some way. A Rogue arguing with a raven all the time while he is trying to sneak around or sell his ill gotten gains would be hilarious.

The fighter may have been a wood cutter in the wrong place at the wrong time or perhaps a city watch type who inconvenienced the witch somehow.
He might be trying to be honorable and proud but the raven keeps making him look bad and always brings up the times he has failed

Humans get 2 feats so this one would have to be human.

Actually as long as you have the ability to take traits you can always take this. I do like the idea of a rogue or fighter, but if I go with fighter I would take the Eldritch Guardian archetype in order to not have to use Iron Will and Familiar Bond and to get perception as a class skill.

Ah yes those are both good options. I do like the use of traits for unusual themes.

For fun once your character reaches 3rd or 7th level you could skin the Improved Familiar feat as the character attempting to change his wife back only to transform her into another form.

That would certainly be amusing as long as I can use it, since certain classes that can get familiars might not have a caster level and therefor would not qualify for it.

I think I might just go with a school familiar if one without a school can even obtain it.

I think I found the class, although other opinions are welcome. I'm thinking a human Witchguard Ranger. Mostly to add insult to injury that his wife turned into a raven (or thrush) on his watch.

This isn't actually a problem as far as Improved Familiar is concerned.

I'm curious... What type of Familiar would the metal guy be in Full Metal Alchemist?

Welp, marking that one down to shove into people's faces the next time that conflict arises. Now I can have my fey knight (a human Order of the Beast (ACG) Cavalier) have a liminal sprite later on.

Hard to say, since he is so large. I suppose a Mauler familiar would fit his height best and I suppose you could get the spell Instant Armor or that spell that instantly teleports a specific set of armor on or off (can't remember it's name for the life of me) if you really want to emulate him.

Back to the original concept - why would her being polymorphed into a bird make her a familiar, and not just an awakened bird, maintaining her full class?

Because that requires a lot more GM permission and probably a second player.

Cursed big time? Powerful marital bond however has maintained a connection.

Essentially the idea is that she has been cursed by a disguised Baba Yaga, which is why her condition is rather ... unique. That is what happens when you mock a being that is almost divine in power (she is an Archmage 10 after all).
