Interest Check: Interface Zero / Nova Praxis (Cyberpunk Savage Worlds)

Recruitment

Hello all!

I've seen a lot of interest generated for various Shadowrun/Cyberpunk 2020 games on Paizo that never quite seem to take off. I have a real hankering to run or play a cyberpunk game, but I'm not comfortable enough with the Shadowrun rules to be GMing.

I am very comfortable with Savage Worlds, though. I'm still going over my specific campaign ideas, but would people be interested in a PBP Savage Worlds cyberpunk game? My two options for settings are Interface Zero (flavorful setting, but with easy character creation) or Nova Praxis (even more narrative dense setting, more difficult and in-depth character creation, but with SO MUCH COOL STUFF GOING ON).

Interested?

An Interface Zero Phoenix campaign would be interesting.

If we were going to go with Interface Zero, I was thinking of setting it in the Valley of Static actually. =)

Dark Archive

I've been a part of some of those SR games that just didn't quite take off, so I'm TOTALLY up this!

I would be leaning toward Nova Praxis, just because I don't mind putting in the work to for char-gen if it means an increase in the number of options/more cool stuff going on. =)

Yeah, SW has good love around here, so you should see decent interest in this.

Either one would work with me. I have both books, so Character generation is not too big a deal.

I'm not personally familiar with interface zero, but I am very familiar with Savage Worlds. However I have watched the Game Geeks review for IZ if that counts for something, ha. If there's a lack of players who explicitly love cyberpunk showing interest I'd like to jump in.

So to explain a little more: Interface Zero is more like a standard cyberpunk setting, sort of Shadowrun without the fantasy elements. Megacorps, advanced technology, everybody backstabbing everybody else and using plausibly deniable assets (read: the players and people like them) to do it. There's still a lot of human failings contributing to the setting, and it would likely take place close to and eventually in Phoenix (the Valley of Static), which is cut off from the rest of the world digitally and to some extent physically.

Nova Praxis takes place in the far future and has a lot more lofty ideals. A technological singularity (God) existed for three months and in those three months created technology so advanced it ended human scarcity. The singularity, called Mimir was switched off under mysterious circumstances, but permanently changed humanity. Among the important revolutions were Apotheosis, where a human brain can be converted into digital software (allowing for players to be either completely machine constructs or completely virtual AIs), and Makers (think Star Trek replicators), as well as faster than light travel. Among some of the other interesting things, characters in this setting have no money, but they have a sort of credit rating based off of how important and respected/well-liked they are.

I love both of these settings a lot just from reading their books so far. I can definitely tell there's enough interest to run a cyberpunk savage worlds game, the only question is still which one. I'm hammering out campaign ideas, and some of them work in both settings, so I'm not picky. It basically just decides how much I push this in either a grittier (Interface Zero) or loftier, high-ideals (Nova Praxis) direction.

I'm definitely more interested in Interface Zero as a setting, but that's just me. I'm honestly just itching to play SW

I'm not getting any real consensus (or leaning hard one way myself), so I'm just gonna roll a die, finish hammering out my plot outline and put up a recruitment thread.

Evens = Nova Praxis
Odds = Interface Zero

Make my decision for me, RNG: 1d20 ⇒ 5

Interface Zero it is. Recruitment thread sometime before this weekend. =)

Just a note: Saying that IZ is like Shadowrun without the mystical elements just makes it an actual Cyberpunk setting. Just like Cyberpunk 2013/2020, Cyberworld (Rolemaster), and the other games in the genre. I know it's a terrible nitpick, but even though Shadowrun may be the more well known, it's actually the niche in the genre.

All that being said, I'm hoping Zombieneighbours gets back to his thread for Methuselah's Price soon, because I'm getting worried about him (and I really want to play in his game). But if that falls through, I'll definitely be keeping my eye on this thread. Because I need a Cyberpunk fix. :)

Haha, well I did say standard Cyberpunk setting, and then say the thing about no-magic Shadowrun... >_> I take your point though, I see how that could be annoying.

I was hopeful about that thread for Cyberpunk 2020 also! Seeing that he hadn't been on for a couple days was kind of the last push for me to make this thread and see if anybody was interested.

Honestly I'm worried about Zombie's lack of presence. I hope everything's okay.

Game-wise, I've never actually played a Savage World game before, but I've played (and written) Cyberpunk at length, so it could be an interesting challenge for me. :)

Real life can get in the way sometimes. I'm sure he'll be alright. :)

Savage Worlds is super easy to pick up. Since I'm running Interface Zero it's even more straightforward, since you don't have to worry about the personality ratings or any of the more complex background from Nova Praxis. If everybody would like to read into the background and how the world got where it is in Interface Zero, great. If not, you'll be able to go just about as far with "Cyberpunk Dystopia--cool, can I have a robot arm?" :)
