The other other thing that irks me in winter driving are people who drive over-cautiously.. like 22mph on the highway. When it's slippery, you need to keep a minimum momentum going to get over hills... and if you go 24mph, you're just going to get yourself and everyone behind you stuck!
Many years ago, driving to my grandmother's house in West Virginia for Thanksgiving, the story goes:
Started in Ithaca at noon the day before TG. My two roommates and some girl who needed a ride to Pittsburgh (one roommate lived there, the other was spending TG with him) in my Mustang. Beautiful sunny day - until we hit Pennsylvania. HUGE snowstorm. It's normally about a five hour drive. We got to my roommate's house about 4 AM. I did *all* the driving - no one else knew how to drive a stick. Walked in, Marc introduced me to his mother, I said "hi, where do I sleep?" She put me on the couch. Next morning I get up, they feed me breakfast, and I take off for grandma's. South of Morgantown, I have to go over this mountain. It's a nice day, but the roads are slick. So I get up some momentum and start up. Come to a blind curve. Around the curve, there's a pickup truck with his nose in the ditch on my side and his tail sticking out over the center line. So I went around him. If anybody had been coming down the mountain at that point, I'd be dead. Got safely there, good family turkey day, and safely back to Ithaca again a couple of days later. Fun times. :-)

RE: Snow-- I met my wife going to College in NORTH Louisiana (Totally different beast from south Louisiana) One day in April we were flying kites in 85 degree weather (My Charlie brown kite totally got caught in a tree) ;P
The next morning there were 2-1/2 to 3 foot drifts of snow on the ground.
Most young ladies might have taken that as a sign and dropped me immediately. :P Not my wife, from New Orleans and having seen snow maybe once before, she thought it was wonderful. She had me driving all over town to take pictures of snowmen others had built.
Oh she is! :)
She put up with me for 20 years so far = She AWESOME! ;P
To this day she still calls that 'Snow Day', the day she realized I might be the one! ;)

I will grant NYC is fun IF you are a tourist.
Commuting in everyday for work sucks. The view from the Empire State Building gets old pretty quick, except for sunsets, f@#&ing gorgeous to watch sunsets.
Nothing is fun if it is your normal. People love to visit Cape Cod. To me, it's a boring, overpriced sandbar with an overabundance of drug addicts.

Agree to disagree then! I prefer trees in my backyard, hell I prefer a backyard period. My Great Danes would not do well in an apartment.

Understandable,
But you must admit, they would LOVE NYC Central park! :)I myself thought New Orleans was a wonderful place to visit, especially Mardi gras, until I actually moved there. THEN the fun dwindled rapidly. :P
Wait, Great Dane'S'?!? As in plural?!?
How many Marmadukes/Scoobys do you have? And how? :)
(Just trying to imagine having more than one small horse in your house) :)

Oh they would love Central Park of course they can't go off leash like they do in my backyard. Hell I loved Central Park used to work a block away and walk through it, well part of it, everyday for lunch.
Yep, I have two. I would have a third too if it wasn't for that meddling wife of mine...

Darn meddling wives!
We can't live with 'em, and I darn sure couldn't live without mine! ;P
What's an elderly wizard to do?
Hmmmm,... Time to go and cook an oversized dinner. :)
Happy Thanksgiving to all! And to all a good food-induced coma! ;D

Fortunately John had all day yesterday to tear apart the house looking for his birth certificate.
I think I am going to have to take over managing our documents and files. And finances.
Someone has to.
Funny ex-wife story: My ex was well known for being one of those people who wanted to be in control, and often claimed skills that she flat-out didn't possess. When we first got married she insisted on being in control of the checking account and bills. About six months later our phone began blowing up because she hadn't bothered to send anyone any payments. We had the money, she just didn't do it. Suffice to say I kept the books from thereon in.

Although I have recently cultivated a love for urban scenes, I am still a nature worshipper at heart. Even if I end up working in a city, I will still keep my residence somewhere more rural. I'm not afraid of commuting, I'm used to Boston-Cape Cod for school. I could do that for work no problem. Driving is fun when you have audiobooks.

How ya gonna shoot a shadow? Those bits n pieces'd go right through me!
Edit: Hey you're not supposed to own a gun in NYC anyhow. No second amendment there as Plexico Burress found out some years ago :-)
I like where I live just fine :-)
Beautiful Eagle Rock reservation just a block away.

what in God's name are you talking about? You can own a gun here just fine, you just need an in state license. Burress tried to walk a gun here on an out of state license and got caught. That's all there was to that story.

Yeah we get the everyone forgets how to drive thing over here. But what annoys me more is everyone buying up all the f@%&ing milk and bread.

Ummmm...Canadian here, chiming in...you do realize don't you that if you are snowed in and the power is off...just putting the spoilables in a snowbank will keep them from spoiling, right?

How about boots that would allow you to step into the air? I'm not sure how to convert it to Pathfinder, but it was a cool effect.
