A Rubber Goblin?!

Advice

So Ive got a build idea that Ill admit is a little weird, but should be a whole lotta fun. Ive recently found the goblin feat "Roll with it" and I would love to make a Goblin monk revolved around the concept. I know its not a very effective feat in a lot of circumstances, but thats what this forum is for. What could I do to make the spongiest goblin monk around? Any other damage absorbers thatll go well flavor-wise? How can I make that acrobatics skill climb? Id just love a little more insight, my GM is allowing one not-so-crazy template that makes sense for the character taking it and hes taking us to level 20 and as long as its first party its allowed, third party needs a bit of permission. Hes going to equal our characters insanity out with his own though, so...

I'd advise playing an Invulnerable Rager and basing the rest of your build around DEX if possible. You'll reduce incoming damage by 1/2 your level, which is effectively +1/2 your level to acrobatics checks for this purpose. Also consider the Stalwart feat to boost your DR further. Barbarians do a bit better than monks because they can afford to take hits (d12 and DR), and aren't as reliant on full-round actions (you'll be staggered after rolling with it). If you pick up Beast Totem, you can still full attack on rounds when you get bounced.

That actually makes sense, Ill definitely consider doing that... Ive never played a barbarian, but it sounds fun. I could just never get past the typical brute idea, however imagining a pissed off goblin being tossed around sounds pretty great. Are there any rage powers out there that I should consider than?

Lesser Beast Totem, Beast Totem. Maybe Improved DR later on. The rest are up to you. Reckless Abandon might be on that list if you don't care about your AC. Superstition if you like good saves.

Hah, I know exactly what you mean. I currently play a Goblin Magus using this very combo. I'd advise you not to try monk; playing someone who can't be hurt isn't very useful if you can't deal damage. Enemies will just ignore the hell out of you.

Make sure you grab a Ring of Ferocious Action to help removed the Staggered condition. You may also want to consider a build which focuses on a single powerful attack than several long ones, since Roll With It means you'll often start your turn a good few feet away from your enemy. Just, don't go natural attacks on your barbarian, consider Vital Strike or the like. I'm aware vital strike isn't too good, but if you want this combo, it works better. Or if you're starting up at a high level, get Pounce, like My Self says.

Natural Attacks can actually work quite well, the main source of your damage will be static from Str, PA and such so the damage dice isn't a huge issue, charging as a standard action will allow you to close the gap and definitely increases the value of items/spells that increase your base move speed. You can get claws and a bite from Rage Powers, adding more attacks from magic items as you get higher level (Helm of the Mammoth Lord and Wyvern Cloak for example) and quite easily have 4 or 5 attacks by the time you get access to Pounce at 10th, very likely exceeding anything you could do with a weapon.

I am shocked, simply shocked that no one has mentioned the bouncy racial trait yet. I think that it would be required for any rubber goblin build.

Be sure to check out the Feral Gnasher barbarian archetype, it's not the most powerful one, but...you're playing a GOBLIN, you are going to be comic relief.

Might as well play to it, all the way!

A few levels of Brawler can give you some options for feats and unarmed strike damage.

One thing to keep in mind with the feat 'Roll With It' is that it is a once per round deal and DOES NOT WORK against ranged attacks or combat maneuvers that deal no damage.

If you want to play a feral gnasher, i would HIGHLY suggest taking the feat Ankle Biter. When you get Lockjaw (the grab ability with your bite), well... I'll let you figure it out.

Also, I've never once regretted taking Deflect Arrows with my goblin feral gnasher. Enemies figure out real quick that making you a pincushion is preferable to engaging you in melee.

I put that combo on a nilbog as a joke encounter, good lord the players were batting him around like crazy and doing nothing to him except make him very dizzy (Staggered). Eventually he gave up just because he was tired of being a pinball.

Liberty's Edge

Feral gnasher grappler! There was a thread going around that had a great build for it, but what it comes down to is that you are grappling with your teeth! On bigger creatures than you, can't get much funnier than that.

Start with Boots of Striding and Springing to increase your speed and acrobatics.
Then wear a Mushroom Vest and use the spell Bouncy Body.
