Papers! There are papers galore! All covered in writing.
Writing that... nobody can read...
As for the gem ...
It will obviously take weeks or maybe months of work to decipher these papers.
Untir Jonrot
|
Untir summons his arcane power to see magical aura, first scanning the room, then studying the gem.
spellcraft: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18
"This gem has been enchanted with a permanent magical light. Should be quite valuable."
He then turns to examine the papers, but is unable to decipher it.
linguistics: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
"Hmm, it's in an unfamiliar language. But I do believe we have found what we came for."
GM Aerondor
|
Indeed surely this is the trove that your elusive pathfinder hid away. But what to do with it?
Pietro Slaszval the Boisterous
|
"WHAT? PAPER!?" Pietro roars. "WHERE'S THE BIG STONE WITH THE SWORD STUCK IN IT! WHERE'S THE MAGICAL FOUNTAIN OF ETERNAL YOUTH! WHERE'S THE WHISPERING TYRANT'S--well, WHATEVER IT IS THAT WHISPERING TYRANTS HAVE! ALL WE'VE FOUND IS SOME ANCIENT BEAN-COUNTER'S TAXES! I'll bet there isn't even a mimic disguised as treasure chest in here!"
Pietro Slaszval the Boisterous
|
"WAIT! There's something sticky on the bottom of this desk!" He pulls out his hand, and frowns. "Gum. Three-hundred year-old gum."
Ouch, at least this one isn't disguised as a door.
Actually I've done that in a home game. Big underground great hall with two identical doors... only one's not. When is a door not a door? ;)
Gratius Laelius

Spellcraft 1: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Spellcraft 2: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
I've already seens this language somewhere, but I don't remember where.
If these are the findings of Eylysia, we must preserve and protect them from others.
Let's take one piece and show it to Venture-Captain Dreng, he will take care of all of this. Closing the passage is our best option, the time we get back here.
Says Gratius.
Zootloot
|
"Well Gratius, even though you're a little bit stiff sometimes, I agree with you. Let's grab a few papers and take these back to Dreng. Let him come collect the rest." Zootloot smiles a big smile at the half-elf.
Pietro Slaszval the Boisterous
|
"And don't forget the wine. That's the important bit."
GM Aerondor
|
You gather up the papers and head out... however on the way out you bump into a group of people coming in.
"In the name of Lady Arodeth, Aroden and the book of one thousand whsipes give up those papers!" says the leader, as they all draw weapon and charge, not giving you a chance to actually follow their orders.

Gratius recognize immediately the group and says with a great sadness in his voice.
Lady Arodeth is wrong ! I've seen it with my own eyes ! Aroden will return, I'm sure of it, but what we tried to do isn't working. We have already failed.

Knowledge (local), untrained: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
"If you don't back off, we'll force you back." Carini brandishes her guisarme.
Untir Jonrot

They're too temptingly clustered together for me not to try this. Might go down after this though. :)
Untir does not waste to exchanging words with them. He moves towards them, pulls out a bunch of colored powder and throws it in their direction while chanting, "වර්ණ ඉසින!"
Casts color spray will DC17, targetting green, orange, red.

For the purposes of this battle they are gone. Let it not be said the Harbringers of fate fear their own... or use good tactics

Untir Jonrot

GM, got it! Gratius, done!
Untir's attack would be against orange first. If he is down by the time it reaches his turn, it would be against yellow instead.
Untir raises his hand, pointing at his target, as a beam of scintillating colors leaps out.
blinding ray, melee: 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (12) + 3 - 4 = 11 vs touch AC (1HD blinded 1 rd, otherwise dazzled 1 rd)

Gratius trips the raging barbarian, who doesn't look like he likes that at all.
As Untir casts his spell, a missile of force flies out from the man at the back.

Nope, I got it wrong. Yellow is the spellcaster. So...

Sorry about that. I didn't know that spell-like abilities needed to make concentration checks. Learn something new. :)
GM Aerondor
|
I could be wrong on that but I thought it was just supernatural abilities that didn't have to worry about it
Untir Jonrot
|
No, you're right. I always assumed that only spells needed concentration checks, but this, I did some research and found out that spell-like activities similarly needed concentration. Supernatural and extraordinary do not. Haha, something to spring on my players next time... :)

Things happen so fast that Zootloot can hardly keep up. Before he knows it a battle is raging all around him. Feeling the excitement throbbing through his veins, he pulls out his guitar and starts to play. His song inspires courage for all of the allies as they converge the enemy.

@Carni, Walt was providing cover to the barbarian from your location. I figured you would have moved 5' sideways to avoid that. But it would take take in the future to be aware that reach weapons often suffer from cover issues.

Circling around to get closer to his teammates, Untir pulls out some powdered iron and starts chanting repeatedly, "වර්ධනය..."

With the last of the Harbringers defeated the group takes a moment.
Then gathering up the trove, the group heads back out.
Outside, the party emerges as the sun breaks through the clouds just as it looks like setting. From their vantage the group has a hard time seeing, but a hush falls over the massed crowd. How will Sir Reinhart attempt to get to the Cathedral?
The sound of a horses hooves are heard, getting faster and faster.. A knight on his white charger flashes into view. From the very edge of the pit surrounding the cathedral it leaps into the air...
Through the air it flies.
Make sure you look at that picture before clicking on the spoiler
You didn't click on the picture first, did you?
The valiant charger arcs through the air, Sir Reinhart on his back...
Still haven't looked at the image have you?
The pennant of Sir Reinhard flutters bravely. All the eyes of the crowd, many thousand in number, are on the horse. For a moment it seems suspended in the air, almost as if there were an invisible path under its hooves.
But alas it is not to be. The brave horse and his foolish rider plummet into the pit surrounding the cathedral.
No need to click on the next spoiler

Pietro grabs Carini and Untir roughly around the shoulders and shouts "HA!! IT'S CAYDEN TIME!"
.... "OH! Where's Dreng's wine?"
GM Aerondor
|
Dreg's wine is, or was, safe in Pietro's pack. Bottle seems to have sprung a leak, as surely it was fuller before. Pietro is sure he would have noticed any normal thief doing such a thing, so it surly must have been a master.
Dreg, when you finally catch up with him, is most appreciative of the wine, and of the news of the notes you found. "Well, well.. we'll have to look into what these may reveal.."
