Is my CMD really a negative number?

OKay this CMB / CMD math has got me all f***ed up on my Halfling.

Halfling Sorcerer. Str= 10 Dex =12

With Size and Stat Modifers am I really looking at a -1 CMB and a 10 CMD?

Thanks.

Looks about right.

Combat Maneuver Bonus (CMB) = Base attack bonus + Strength modifier + special size modifier = -1
Combat Maneuver Defense (CMD) = 10 + Base attack bonus + Strength modifier + Dexterity modifier + special size modifier = 10 (9 flat-footed)

Your size modifier is -1 (for being small). So yes, the numbers you quoted in the thread are correct. Your thread title is incorrect, since you don't have a negative CMD).

Keep in mind that your flat-footed CMD will be 9 (since you don't add your Dex bonus to CMD when flat-footed).

This is why casters need to invest in dex and not just throw all their points into their casting stat.

Oh yeah, CMB. A negative CMB is definitely possible. I thought you made a legal character with a negative CMD and I was going to be extremely impressed. I once made the BBEG a barbarian whose AC while raging was -1.

Edit: Also, hello twin! Gambler dwarf is best dwarf, charisma penalty be damned :P

Gambler dwarf is an awesome character in the card game :)

You could get a -1 CMD if you had your Strength and Dex taken down to 1 each, and were small, and had no BAB: 10-5-5-1 = -1.

So play a venerable gnome, drop your Str/Dex to 7, and play a non-full BAB class at level 1. Boom, -6 CMB and -1 CMD. Good luck.

And maintain it by taking levels in new 1/2 and 3/4 BAB classes each level.

That's the price of being small. You're absurdly easy to tackle.

I'm going to build a 20 Level progression for this now. With high Charisma so he can bluff everyone into thinking it's a waste of time grappling him because they'll never catch him.

If you take the right classes, you'll be able to rage while doing this. Though that's probably not quite what you want.

Or you could take a bunch of 1/2 and 3/4 BAB Cleric prestige classes until you can cast Freedom of Movement.

Sovereign Court

Ooh prestige classes, I didn't even think those, now it can get interesting. I'm also making his counterpart, Family Guy's "Greased Up Deaf Guy", a Dual-Cursed Deaf/Tongues Oracle who will have a CMD and Reflex Save through the roof, and keep her armor nice and greased for that extra anti-grapple defense.

ok let's see:

halfling unchained barbarian lvl 4
charging and raging is -4 to ac
small size -1
str 5 -3
dex 9 -1
risky striker -2
reckless stance -2

so, even at lvl4 as full bab, he has:
10-4-1-2-3-2-1+4= 1 CMD
