It's hard to say. I'm used to my winning boyish charm working in unison with my roguish good looks, but no one can see me on a message board. So, more than usual. Maybe 2?

What's your 5 favorite bands?

It depends on the mood I'm in. I have always loved Metallica. I sing along a whole lot with the Refreshments, Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, and the Gin Blossoms when I'm driving (and Rock Band and karaoke singing it's Dio, cause I'm a rainbow in the dark!). Rodrigo y Gabriella makes me very happy. That's more than 5 though, so some combination of those.

Are you playing in any Pathfinder games at the moment? If so, what are you playing?

Also, where you a player in that game that Mika was telling me about a few years ago? Where the party wiped on Level 1 of the Emerald Spire and the next group of characters had to fight animated skeletons of their previous characters in addition to everything else on that level?

I am currently playing in 3 Pathfinder games. My old group back home in New Mexico is just starting volume 6 of Shattered Star. They all gather like we used to and I Skype in on alternating Fridays. I run that game. I also have a game here at Paizo on Monday evenings with a couple of my coworkers and their significant others. I am playing a Wizard in that game. On alternating Wednesdays I play a Shaman (was playing a cleric but the game shifted directions and we made new characters). I've been trying to mix it up a bit as I usually play martial characters (I love me some Rogue, and Swashbuckler).

I was not in that Emerald Spire game, but I got to hear a lot about it. There were several wipes I think.

I don't drink so much these days. Most commonly I will just have a beer with friends, usually when we go shoot some pool, play some board/tabletop games, or something like that. I really like Shiner in it's various forms (the Cosmos is my favorite, but I do really enjoy the Bohemian Black as well). I do also have to call out the Santa Fe Brewing Company's Nut Brown as one of my favorites. When I do drink something harder, spiced rum is my drink of choice.

Super-serious series of questions*:

* Nnnnnnope.

If you could have 1d4 ⇒ 4 different super-powers, what would they be and why?
(Assume corollary powers required to make a given power work are part of it; i.e. Since you'd need super tensile strength/durability to, you know, not-die when you made use of your super-strength power, you get them both when you say "super strength" as a singular option.)
Why?

If, instead, you could be a gestalt of 1d2 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 super heroes, who would you gestalt to be yourself? Why? Which comic universe would you run around in? Would you prefer to be in that one, or this one?

On the other hand: BAM! You just gained 3d6 + 2 ⇒ (5, 5, 1) + 2 = 13 levels in a Pathfinder class (or classes)! Which class(es) do you pick, and why? Incidentally, if you could spontaneously switch races, would you? And if so, to which?

Similarly, you won the super-lottery, and gained mythic tiers! 3d3 + 1 ⇒ (2, 2, 2) + 1 = 7 of 'em! (And you gain class levels to match; please feel free to change your previous answer if this does so for some reason.) What path do you take? (Alternate option: substitute a single tier for a simple mythic template.)

Yet another query: you monster. Specifically, you [dice=CR]1d30[/ice] (or less) monster! Which are you?! ... and would this have been your first choice? If not, which would be?

But the wheels of fate-time have spun again, and your everything has been transposed into that of someone else! You've just become a prepublished NPC from an official source! Which prepublished NPC is it?

What campaign setting do you run around in? Why?

As a final thing: blend any and/or all of the above questions into a single ginormous question: an optional blend of a prepublished NPC, monster, and some superheroes all walk into a bar... and out comes you, as a gestalt of those guys, the race you choose, some extra superpowers, and have extra class levels and mythic tiers on top! What are you?! (Other than "awesome" - naturally.)

Equipment is a non-issue (like adjunct super-powers; what you need to do <X> is assumed). Also note that any significant others can be brought with you.

"Official" and "Pre-published" are loose terms, but general expect something that has a solid publishing company and identifiable map/world/conceits behind it (like WotC for Forgotten Realms, Eberron, Dark Sun, Greyhawk, etc; or Green Ronin for Blue Rose, but not "True20"; or Paizo for Golarion, or the Maelstrom, or the upcoming Starfinder; but not "the Bestiaries" or "the Planes" or things like that - basically things that people can find and nerd out about with you). Similarly, if it has a solid AP out for it, that, too, is acceptable (like Legendary Planet; or any of Paizo's APs). It should probably be a d20 variant, but it can be whatever you like of those many variants (True20, Blue Rose, Paizo, 3.5, 3rd; etc.). That said, if a Homebrew or otherwise "weak" entry just needs to be there due to compelling reasons... okay. Similarly other systems. Let us know why! Computer and video game translations of such (Neverwinter Nights and/or expansions/sequels; PFO; etc) are acceptable as interpretations as well.

Similarly, for comics, it needs to be superheroes that people can reasonsonably be expected to come across - "that one I made up with my cousin as a kid" is an awesome answer, and worth noting and why, but prrrrooooobabaly isn't the best choice, unless it's just so powerful that you've GOT to. In which case: sure, but bring us along for the ride! Related, the super need not come from one of the "big two" in comics, so long as the people and world is both recognizes me and accessible - choosing The Incredibles world is valid (and awesome), as is Spawn (blech); you're not just limited to Marvel or DC. Similarly "standard" powers need not apply - so long as it is clearly communicable, it's fine (even if all the field specifics aren't clear, that's okay - knowing you're powered by our yellow star is fine; you don't need to know this, but it's acceptable if you do).

Finally, presume you have the basics necessary for a happy life. Your spouse, best friend, and so on, can all be considered to "come with you" (should they choose to do so) wherever it is that you go.

Oh, and one more thing: if you lived through a Legend of Zelda (as one of the Links); which would it be, and why?

Thanks! Enjoy!

Why?

Hmm, I think I would start with Kitty Prydes phasing. Being able to go anywhere I want would not only be pretty cool, but also super useful. I would also be a waterbender because I love waterbenders and being able to carry a flask of water to heal others or myself would be an awesome power to have. Having super speed like The Flash or Quicksilver would be awesome too. There would no longer be long transit times and I would be able to be wherever I need to be ASAP (it also couples well with the phasing since I wouldn't need to go around things). It would also make being able to see the world a lot easier! I think lastly I would want to have some kind of calming presence. When there is someone whose anger or frustration is putting others in danger it would be nice to be able to help them release some of that and deescalate the situation so no one gets hurt.

Tacticslion wrote:

Well, probably my favorite ones. Mainly because they are characters I enjoy and are people I really like. I think the big 3 for me would be Nightcrawler, Kitty Pryde, and Korra.

Two of those characters are from the Marvel Universe. I think I prefer the Marvel Ulitmate Universe for the most part (at least at its beginning, less so around Ultimatum and everything after that, and I don't really like that universes version of Nightcrawler, I prefer the 616 version). But regardless of which Marvel Universe it is it's basically just a more dangerous version of ours.

The universe Korra inhabits is one I would really like to explore. As I mentioned before I really love waterbenders and I really want to learn more about them and their culture, their legends and myths. The world seems like a place that has a lot of really neat peoples and places. I think that is the one I would prefer to inhabit.

There are a lot of interesting and wonderful people and places to meet and explore in our world too! So while I would really like to visit some of those other universes I think I need to spend more time here first.

Tacticslion wrote:

Hmm, that's a hard one. My favorite classes are Swashbuckler, Kineticist (water benders!), and Rogue but I think Bard probably suites me better. I really would just want to be a Swashbuckler with some Hydrokineticist powers. I'm pretty happy being a human.

I think Champion is my favorite and what I would end up being.

The dice roll didn't work on your post so I don't know what my CR is supposed to be. I think I am best as a CR 1/2 human that is sometimes a bit snide.

Tacticslion wrote:

Amiri! She's the best!

Tacticslion wrote:

I got into roleplaying through reading Forgotten Realms novels and the Realms will always have a very special place for me because of that. Golarion is also a very special place for me. I love Star Wars, Star Trek, Mass Effect, and Shadowrun as well (I lean more towards sci-fi than fantasy for the most part). In a perfect world I would be a Starfleet officer that pilots an X-Wing and is stationed with my friends on the Normandy.

I would be an X-Wing pilot for the Rebel Alliance. Once we defeat the Empire we form the New Republic and sign a treaty of support and mutual defense with the United Federation of Planets and I get assigned a post as a Republic Representative aboard a Federation ship along with the rest of my fighter wing. That ships crew, and my fighter wing, are made up of various characters from Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and Mass Effect. Like my friends I don't have any superpowers ("Heroes are ordinary people who do extraordinary things"), but I am a pretty great pilot and speaker.

Alternately I'm just me and I live in the real world where I get to enjoy all of these wonderful things so many creative people have made and share them with the people around me.

Yeah it can! There are some things I collect, but I have an upper limit of what I am willing to spend on them, and if effort I'm willing to put into getting them varies but I do have an "It's not worth it" point. I know some people who go to some pretty crazy lengths to get the things they want though.

I have always been a big reader. My parents tell me I was asking them to read me anything with words on it from the moment I became mobile, and that I was 'reading' newpapers (upside down) before I was walking. Very tiny me was taking Star Trek and Star Wars novels to school to read in class while many of my classmates were still learning to read. One year for my birthday I was given a Forgotten Realms novel (Starless Night). I read it and loved the world it was set in. I voraciously read every Forgotten Realms novel I could get my hands on (I own very close to an entire collection of FR novels, I'm only missing about half the ones that have come out since the 4e time jump to the setting). One day I was in a Hastings and I saw a FR boxed set (the one with Elminster on the front and a blue vortex behind him) and wondered what that was. It was filled with setting information and gazetteers. This was probably the coolest thing I had ever seen, so I saved up some dollars and bought it. Then I discovered it was a game where I got to be a person who lived in the Realms! My friends were open to trying this game out, and that's how I started gaming.

(If "favorite" is too hard, I'll accept, "here is one great moment" - also fine!)

One of my best memories was not a specific big moment but a whole night. We got together to study for our ACT which was going to be early the next morning. Instead we ended up playing D&D all night (it was 2e, this was my junior year of high school, so the 97-98 school year). We did exactly no studying and when the sun came up realized it was about 5am and the test was at 7.

For a specific big moment two of my favorites were when my current group was playing Second Darkness. We were using the Pathfinder Beta Rules to play the AP, and round robin GMing.

The first was, I was the party rogue and for whatever reason the whole group would just let me carry around our gold and would ask me for a bit when they wanted to buy something. My character had a bunch of hidey holes all over Riddleport where he stored things (if one got discovered he wouldn't lose everything). So I was storing all our money in these places. Then at the end of book one

Spoiler:
Riddleport got flooded
and we lost ALL of our money. Everyone took it well and it made for an interesting next few levels as we were well under wealth by level for a while.

The second was for the volume I was GMing, The Armageddon Echo. The group went to fight the volumes final boss and

Spoiler:
were able to fly to the top of the tower at attack him before he could get all buffed up and ready for them by bypassing everything inside the tower. They didn't have a way to get down though and had to go through the tower. Since they had defeated the boss they weren't concerned about the mooks and were wasting resources and going for huge overkill on them. By the time they got to the bottom floor they were out of everything. On the bottom floor is a green dragon. They had one ranged weapon (if I remember correctly its tactics say it stays in the air, or maybe I just decided that, I don't know). By the end of the encounter one of them was alive and had 2 hp left.
It was very nearly my first TPK

Speaking of Hot Wheels, I stumbled on this. Around $80 per car I think.

Woah!

Hey: are you a fan of psionics? Blue Rose?

On an unrelated topic: have you ever read or played Mouse Guard?

Customer Service Representative

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I lean very strongly towards martial characters so magic in general is not something I am generally very interested in. The differences between psionics, arcane, divine, etc are all aesthetic to me so I have never really understood the need for separate mechanics for any of them. I can definitely appreciate mechanical things like Monks Ki and Kineticists powers, I think I usually see those as less 'magic' and more trained powers (to me the Kineticist powers are very much a martial discipline like in the Avatar/Korra stuff, as is Ki). That was all a really long way of saying I am mostly ambivalent when it comes to psionics.

I am not vey familiar with Blue Rose. I know a little bit through Crystal and I intend to buy the book (I missed the kickstarter and Green Ronin currently only has the True20 version on their website). What I know about it sounds very cool and interesting!

I have not played Mouse Guard but some old friends back home used to talk about playing a game sometime a lot. I looked over the rulebook, but that is the most Mouse Guard reading I have done. It reminded me of the Redwall books so it is something I have been intending to look into more sooner or later (my stack of novels and comics grows a whole lot faster than I can read it all so I am really behind on everything!).

Oh! Are you a fellow Redwall fan? Do you have a favorite book or character?

Customer Service Representative

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I read several when I was a tiny Diego through high school. "The Long Patrol" was the last one I read (I worked at a bookstore for many years and it looked like there were at least twice as many as I had read available). My love of "Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH" (and the terrifying cartoon) made the Redwall books an easy sell. I think "The Long Patrol" was my favorite. Mainly because my favorite book is "Watership Down" and there was a long time I just devoured anything with rabbits.

Nice!

I loved the Secret of NIMH, growing up: it was one of my favorites, but terrifying, too!

Watership Down is a powerful story, but, to me, the hares were never the most interesting of the Red Wall people and cultures, though I totally understand why they're yours! I just loved the ideas of the otters, moles, mice, badgers, and even wildcats. I was less interested in the "vermin" (rats, weasels, and so on), hares, and some others. I found the squirrels and a few others just kind of okay.

Do you have a favorite side-character in the 'Zelda series? Whether it be the humble Old Man, or I AM ERROR, or Tingle or Epona or Beedle or Aryll - do you have someone from a specific game, or the whole series who you just love? Why?

Customer Service Representative

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Hmm, that's a tough one. Most of my favorite Zelda games are older ones and I don't recall many stand out characters from them. I'm a lot less familiar with games from The Windwaker on.

The ones I am fondest of are Marin and Tarin, who I think go by the names of Malon and Talon in later games. Marin is the first character you encounter in Link's Awakening so was my first exposure to a 'new' character in the Zelda Games. I really love Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages and they are cucco farmers at Mount Cucco in those games. A combination of things which make me really happy.

I also really like Sheik. I would love to play a game with Sheik/Zelda as the lead.
