Oh! Hey: do you have any questions for us?!

My question for all of you is, how excited are you that Mass Effect: Andromeda comes out today!?

Hmm. I want to say that I had to start taking D.A.R.E. sometime in elementary school and it lasted all the way until the end of junior high. So I think I am 5 or 6 years D.A.R.E. but that's just a guess. I don't actually know.

The weather here is all skywater all the time. We had one wonderful day of blue over the weekend. Otherwise the weather is grey and drizzly. I'm holding out hope for more blue. I don't know what folks here have done to offend the Daystar so badly, or what I need to do to make it come back.

I have never actually played any Mass Effect.

I am also hilariously bad at video games.

And I don't have the time or desire to get better at them.

Occasionally, I get into a video game; Twisted Metal, Legacy of Kain, Grand Theft Auto Vice City, Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, Lego Indiana Jones, Red Dead Redemption, Grand Theft Auto 4, and Skyrim are pretty much my favorite games.

First person shooters are ones that I am hilariously bad at. Watch me get shot up while looking at my feet, then the sky, then my feet, then dead. I also enjoy looking at the pretty environments the devs make, so it's not uncommon for me to get killed while looking out over a vista of some sort as well. I'm really not competitive enough for them.

The Legacy of Kain games were great!

Red Dead Redemption has been a bit too sandboxy for me, but I have really enjoyed what I have played of it so far and I do intend to play more of it. Super sandboxy games like that and the Elder Scrolls games lose me pretty quicky. I generally need more direction than they give (I played Morrowind for 2 years before accomplishing anything plotwise and then didn't really play Oblivion or Skyrim).

I really enjoy the Lego Star Wars and Lego Indiana Jones games.

Question of the day: if you could *BOOP!* replace a bad guy with yourself, from a video game, a book, a play, an RPG, a computer game, a television series, or a movie (or different ones from each), who would it be, why, and how would that impact the narrative (if any)?

You keep your favorite features of yourself and/or them while retaining the full knowledge, skills, powers, and abilities of you both; for example, you could, if you so desired, seemlessly replace them with yourself and just take over their organization with no one the wiser - or whatever); "you" are the personality in charge, and though you have free access to their memories, "you" (the person answering) are the "real" person. You retain your meta-information about the whatever it is.

I will get back to answering your questions when I have more time... !

SUPER HYPE~!

... now that it's been several days. XD

That said, I have highly enjoyed ME 1 and 2 (haven't played 3 or gone too deep into 2), but have no real chance to acquire ME:A any time soon, despite being literally everything up my ally...

... but I LOVE that people are getting to play it!

Related question:
- Switch
- Breath of the Wild
- Snipper Clips

... what do you think of all these things?

I am keen on getting a Switch, and Breath of the Wild. I hear very good things about both and am a Zelda fan ('A Link to the Past' is up there with FFT as one of the very best games ever made in my mind).

I know absolutely nothing about Snipper Clips though. I Googled it but I think I need to read more about it when I go home before I have anything to say about it.

I come from a place that averages around 300 days of sunshine a year, and now I'm in a place that is close to the exact opposite. I definitely prefer the blue. I really enjoy that there is almost no wind at all here (Albuquerque is basically a big wind tunnel). I also appreciate that it is more temperate here, it doesn't get as hot in the summer or as cold in the winter. All the color is nice too. But man do I miss the clear blue sky.

I played the first Lego Batman and really enjoyed it too! I never tried the other 2.

I would be a terrible bad guy. My roommate was making fun of me because we were doing a play through of the Mass Effect before Andromeda and in the first game I was driving the Mako around. He told me to shoot one of the giant bug creatures that was wandering around on the planet, so I did and it died. I immediately felt terrible about it. If I can't even shoot fictional fauna in a video game I certainly cannot be the big bad of anything. So, it would have a pretty major impact on the narrative in that there would no longer be a big bad and I would probably team up with the good guys.

EDIT: And I can never successfully follow through with "Dark Side" style characters.

KotOR: start off dark, then save the old lady, give them charity, help that one person... BAM I'm light before I know it...

NWN: start of NE rogue, give the beggar-woman charity, show compassion to the one dude, show mercy to the other dude, don't accept financial compensation for helping people... BAM I'm non-evil (or even good) the level before being able to take Assassin or Blackguard.

It's the exact kind of game that I would brush off as, "Definitely not for me..." if I'd heard of it, but, now that I've seen people actually play it, desperately want some day, once I own a Switch (approximately two video game generations from now).

I enjoy breezes, though too much wind is too much.

I was always the weird child that liked rain days that forced you inside, but that was encouraged by my first home (Louisville, Kentucky; though I have few, if any, cognitive memories there), and reinforced much, much later by my time in Lithuania.

Number two was pretty fantastic, but, unfortunately, that and the first Harry Potter game on the Wii are both bugged pretty badly, so that you simply can't get past certain parts. It really sucks as it kind of wrecks what is an otherwise really fun game.

I mean, you could stay in a hotel or something... >.>

But the convention was awesome! I hope you love it!

EDIT: I don't actually expect you to have any pressing desire (much less any time) to come to Ocala, but the invitation is always there, of course!

Happy Easter!

Hey!

If you get the chance, the Oculous thing is actually pretty cool!

I can't actually say what, exactly, it was trying to advertise (I mean, besides, "We have a cool car." and "We have a cool video game system." and "We have a cool movie." - it seems like it is trying to convey something specific about the car, but I don't know what, exactly), but it did so very nicely! It was lots of fun!

I don't know if you were there at all on Friday, but I was personally:
- turned away from the Timothy Zhan line
- talked to a bunch of cosplayers
- got into no less than two panels I was originally not interested in!
- met lots of interesting people!

It was quite a day!

I hope your experience is also awesome!

Oh!

Did you get the chance to see Mark Hamill's memorial to Carrie Fisher? Was it as amazing as I'd imagined?

Also, what about the big palooza thing when John Williams and the rest of the cast were all there?! Heard so many amazing things!

Also, what of the trailer for Episode 8? I also wasn't able to see that - so little time!

So excited you're there! W00t!

I had a blast! The whole convention was awesome! I didn't get in early enough on Thursday to see the 40 years panel, or the Carrie Fisher tribute though (the line into the convention was close to 2 miles long...). I got to see The Last Jedi Panel, the Rebels Season 4 panel and most of the others I wanted to though.

I did do the Oculus thing. It was Nissan advertising the Star Wars themed Nissan Rogues. They had one parked right next to it so you could look at it afterwards. It was really neat!

I do not appear to be sick so I think I avoided illness *fingers crossed*.

Paizo Employee Customer Service Representative

I did have a hotdog from the food court. After that I made sure to go somewhere to eat. It was a good hotdog but came out to $9, which is waaaaay more than I wanted to pay for a hotdog.

I went to an animation panel with Dave Filoni, Ian McDiarmids talk, The Last Jedi panel (sort of), the Heroines of Star Wars panel, Rebels Season 4 panel, Battlefront 2 panel, and the Hasbro panel. All of them were really neat and a blast!

The first panel dealt with the fates and futures of characters in the animated shows. Mainly it was a review of what had happened to characters like Ahsoka and Maul, along with a lot of conceptual arts for them over the time they were in the shows. Filoni made a funny comment about that in that when he watched Phantom Menace he thought showing Maul get cut in half and fall down the hole was good because there was no doubt he was dead and gone forever. Then Lucas came to him and told him to bring back Maul in The Clone Wars ("George came to me and said,'I have a great idea and you're going to love it'. Those 2 things never line up with George..."). Since Maul was so clearly dead in Phantom Menace that was a tough one to figure out. He got asked about Ahsoka, but evaded the question. He said it comes up in every interview he does and he is not saying anything about it, but he did point out his shirt that said, "Ahsoka lives?" that he wears for that very reason. After the live stream ended we got pictures of Rex from The Clone Wars and rebels in an Endor rebel outfit from Return of the Jedi.

Ian McDiarmid was a lot of fun, his host was Warwick Davis who is also a lot of fun. He said the images he saw of The Emperor when he got the part reminded him of a frog, so he tried to make the voice croaky like a frog. He did the laugh.

For the really big panels like The Last Jedi and Rebels season 4 there was the main live stage, but there was also 3 other rooms it was being streamed to. In addition to that it was streamed to the trade floor. I didn't get into the live stage but I did get into one of the other rooms (65,000 people and even getting there 5 hours before the panel wasn't early enough for the live stage). Mark Hamill and Daisy Ridley are a blast to listen to. The trailer was hard to hear the first time because of all the cheering every time anything came on the screen. But they played it a second time. From what was said I got the sense that Rey is expecting to be trained as a Jedi but Luke may not be interested in teaching Jedi (the trailer sort of backs that up). Daisy Ridley said that meeting your heroes can be rough because they don't always live up to your expectations and that is the case with Rey and Luke. Modified B-Wings and A-Wings will be in this one. There is a new character named Rose in it and everyone on the panel, including the actress who played her were pretty excited about her. Her role sounds like it is pretty substantial.

Heroines of Star Wars was probably my favorite panel. It was Dave Filoni, Ashley Eckstein (voices Ahsoka Tano), and Tiya Sircar (voices Sabine Wren who is my favorite). It started with a sizzle reel of all of the women in the various Star Wars movies and TV shows. They talked about each of the women in the movies and shows. Daisy Ridley was a surprise host who came out to talk about Rey. They introduced us to a new show coming out in the summer called Star Wars Forces of Destiny. They are 2-3 minute shorts that will be airing on Disney XD and will later be compiled into one longer broadcast. These are 2d animation, the style reminded me a lot of older 80's and 90's cartoons I watched as a kid. At least the initial batch will focus on the women of Star Wars. An action figure line is being made for them and each of the hosts were given one of the character they play. After the live stream ended we watched one of the shorts, featuring Rey right after she finds BB8 but before they go to Nima Station the next morning.

Rebels Season 4 had the whole voice cast of Rebels along with Dave Filoni. Each cast member talked a bit about what to expect from their character in the next season. How the characters have grown and so on. Filoni announced that season 4 would be the final season, but assured us that it is not the end of Star Wars animation, there is more to come. I wasn't clear if he meant Forces of Destiny or if he was implying there would be a new show. He was wearing the same "Ahsoka Lives?" shirt. They played the trailer for season 4, which I really liked. When the lights came on he had changed shirts. His new one said, "Ahsoka Lives!" Lots of cheering but he didn't comment on it at all, just laughed. They played the trailer a second time. After the live stream ended we watched an episode from season 4. It was a Sabine episode and took place on Mandalore.

Battlefront 2 had some neat announcements. It has a single player campaign. You play as ISB Special Forces and the campaign begins immediately after the destruction of the second Death Star. The game has classes and a sort of level up mechanic in both the campaign and in the multiplayer. Multiplayer covers every era and we saw shots of hero characters like Rey and Darth Maul. As well as playable multiplayer units like battledroids. The perspective shifts sometimes during the campaign so that even though you play as ISB Special Forces officer Iden Varios you will have bit where you play the well known Star Wars characters like Luke. A tie in novel called battlefront: Inferno Squad will release in the summer. Author Chrisitne Golden came on stage to talk about it. After the live stream we got to watch a tour of the studio where the game is being made.

The Hasbro presentation was the most frustrating for me. I collect the Black Series figures but they are very hard to collect for a number of reasons. So seeing cool figures that I may not be able to get a hold of was frustrating. Jaina Solo in a pilot outfit. It is black instead of the regular rebel pilot orange. She comes with her purple lightsaber (this is the figure I want most). There is an inferno squad trooper. It looks cool but I wish it had a removable helmet and had Iden under the helmet. Other highlights were Thrawn and Tarkin. Thrawn is a San Diego ComicCon exclusive though. Lastly, the Vintage Collection of figures is coming back.

I didn't put in the previous post that I also went to Galactic Nights. This was an event at Disney Hollywood Studios. The park opened at 7pm for Celebration attendees and was open until midnight. It started with Stars in Cars, which was the various Star Wars actors entering the event in convertable crds and waving to the crowd. There was a Star Wars museum with photo ops with Vader, Chewie, Boba Fett, and Kylo Ren. The museum was super cool! Star Tours was open all night and it was awesome! About 4 times each during the night there was the Imperial March, stormtroopers marching through the park led by Vader, and the March of the First order, First Order stormtroopers marching led by Captain Phasma. The theme song for each played while they marched. The event ended witha 20 minute fireworks show. They projected scenes from the movies onto the full size mockup of the Chinese Theater and had dialog and music from the movies playing. The fireworks worked in conjunction with what was happening, so if a walker was firing the fireworks were designed to look like the explosions from the blaster fire. They also shot red and green lasers into the crowd as the blaster fire from the weapons. It was really awesome!

Oh, the Let's Play you're watching is almost to the part of the game where you'll stop caring about it and start shouting to take you back to the good part!

I'm already kind of pushing for them to get back to the good part.

Well, kind of: I mean, it's still really good!

I'm just... bummed out by the drama!

:/

FF15 Drama!:
The drama between the four of them fighting because of Noctis' understandable hesitancy and Gladiolus' frustration at the prince's apparent lack of respect for his and Ignus' sacrifices is actually kind of stressful. :(

But it's only because I like the guys so much!

Anyway!

New topic!

Ssssssssssssssssssssoooooooooooo...?

Question?:

I've no idea if I'm actually going to do this, or not, but I'm kicking around the possibility of running a PbP built to be a sequel-of-sorts to FFT (set a few centuries later - after the publication and expansion of the Durai papers by A.J.) with several tweaks to the world history.

The gist is that it'd be about politics shortly after that time, as well as suffering some negative issues resulting from the fallout of political issues in the northern country of Valendia spilling over into Eastern Ivalice.

That particular conflict will not be the focus - it's more or less finished - and, as well, I'm thinking of putting a thing so that the characters can kind-of-sort-of gain the class-change mechanic of FFT (via a variant of the 3.5 Chameleon class (+) psionic focus mechanic*). I'm also kicking around the idea of giving the PC either a monster racial ability suite, a specific secondary PrC as a "base" ability they branch into others from (like a specialized squire class), or even trying to contemplate how to transform other special classes into PF (the magus mechanics actually kind of works well as a template for the various sword saint, holy knight, dark/fell knight, temple knight, etc.; and I'm thinking of adapting something like a development of the magus class template** as a basis for such). In any event, I'm contemplating the rediscovery of (some of) the auracite to be what grants your character the chameleon abilities and/or the special class feature/monster power/etc. (unless you are a monster that is changed by the auracite***), and so on. Also other political stuff related to the story of FFT.

I haven't worked out all the details, and I'm not entirely sure that I'm going to do this - I really want to, but, at the same time, it's a big commitment, and I don't want to promise something I can't keep.

The world will be developed as a fusion of traits and elements from Ivalice, Eberron, and Forgotten Realms. Though I've not played FF12, and only minimal elements of the FFTA games, I've actually been doing deep diving into the FFWiki to learn as much as I can about them and the history of the world.

Either way, obviously, lots of things will have to be finalized before we play. Mostly, this is an interest check.

Posting would likely be less than once per day - probably closer to once or twice per week (unless conversations are happening with you guys, and you post more often). I don't know who would all be invited - you're basically top of the list, and another guy I know from off the forums would be, as he's expressed interest in a game run by me specifically. It's even possible, if you'd be interested in such a thing, that there'd be a rotating GM situation. I don't know.***

Anyway, this is just seeing what you think of the idea!

Regardless, this is something that likely won't be happening for a little while.

So...?

Either way, hope this finds you well, today!

EDIT: despite my love for FFT mechanics, I'm not very good at battle maps. I've tried. A lot. Still, I'm willing to try again, if that would otherwise be a deal-breaker! Also kicking around the idea of Roll20. As noted: ***

* You won't need to know psionics to play this, though the MP mechanic I'm kicking around may use a similar pricing method.

** This doesn't actually exist, but the Core 11 classes as templates exist.

*** Lot of details not finalized, yet, as I said. XD

... ARG!

FF15 Spoilers:
Why is the car dead?!

I hate Arden...! >:(

I just want all the guys to be together and friends again and not hate each other or be going through needless torture! Dang it!

... and linear hallways, pushing buttons, green lights, and opening doors is never really exciting, and doesn't make for a compelling chapter.

(Shiva giving the weapon and Noctis getting/using the ring were pretty awesome, though.)

I mean, you don't give the PCs a cool weapon, only to immediately take it (and all their other stuff) away. That's just... bad game design. I mean, yeah, sure, you can temporarily take away a PC's stuff if the story calls for it (and they have a way to get it back; handle with extreme delicacy, though), but the pacing is just... wrong, you know? Wait a chapter, or something.

<several days later, having left this up, and now watched the next video, oops>

Holy carp. It's hallways, pushing buttons, green lights, and opening doors all the way down.

I was sad that the guys were fighting.

Now I'm sad 'cause a major character died off screen for reasons unknown, and there's nothing other than a long series of boring hallways. :(

I mean... this is Chapter 13? Like, all of it? Is... is this some sort of poorly-executed/deeply misunderstood joke about-cum-reference to Final Fantasy 13? 'Cause I could actually sort of see that...

Oh well, at least Diablo showed up*. That was nice*.

* Why is that a sentence that can be uttered in English in sincerity. And that second does not belong in context with the first. Dang it, Square-Enix. >:I
