Diego, do you drink tea? If you drink tea, what sort of tea do you drink?

I do drink tea. I mostly drink green tea because its readily available everywhere. When I was a kid I used to ride the bus to my aunts house after school. She often made sun tea, and I remain very fond of it. When I worked at the book store I often got chai tea from the cafe.

There is a really neat shop in Albuquerque called Figments Tea Shoppe that I went into from time to time. They have walls full of various teas. So when I went I would wander around and smell or sample the various options and got home with little baggies of a few different ones.

Can Chai tea be drunk without milk?(I'm trying to cut calories here).

What is a sun tea?

Paizo Employee Customer Service Representative

I don't know, the cafe always put milk in it, so I only ever drank chai tea with milk.

Sun tea is made by putting the tea leaves in a glass container with cold or room temperature water and leaving it outside in the sun to brew. It takes a few hours and my aunt would bring it in when the bus dropped my sister, my cousin, and me off in the afternoon. I'm not sure what kind of leaves she used, my best guess is black tea. I will ask her next time I talk to her.

So: rollerblades, rollerskates, skateboards, bicycles, scooters, or some combination there of?

Or, of course, none of the above!

( I just went skating yesterday, for the first time in well over a decade. I have the hurts all over me to prove it!)

Whats the difference between a Sun tea and a standard brewed tea?

Bicycles. Ever cycled 40 km on the OCBC marathon. My bum ached, but other then that I was fine the next day.

I can't skate, never learnt when I was younger and now I think I'm too old to learn. Also, I'm clumsy.

Sun tea is usually more flavorful and less bitter than regularly brewed tea.

I biked more when I lived out in the country. Biking in the city is weird for me.

Upon a little urging from a new friend I was encouraged to ask a question. So as not to waste your time with anything irrelevant or immature, I will ask you one of the few questions that my daughters and I have decided is truly relevant.

"Pirate or Ninja?"

Ninja. I went to play a little hearthstone after my friends wedding, then felt a little tired, went for a little shuteye(around 4pm), and the next thing I look out of the window it's night(9pm), and I seem to have lost track of 5h...way to go...

You know, I'm not too much into the pirate thing...

That's a tough question. Pirate I think. I come from a pretty dry place and I don't know how to swim, but there is something appealing about the ocean and certainly about seeing so much more the world.

I will be visiting family in a couple of weeks. I stayed here in Washington this weekend and will be heading to New Mexico at the end of next week. Plane tickets for one direction last weekend were more expensive than round trip tickets in 2 weeks. So I Skyped with my parents, sister, brother-in-law, nieces, and nephews on Sunday morning so I could be with them while they did the Christmas morning stuff. Outside of that I just enjoyed a long, lazy weekend.

Red Mantis or Shackles Pirates? Shackles Pirates I think. I probably wouldn't be a good pirate, but I'd be a worse assassin.

Red Mantis or Red Wizards? Red Wizards

Red Wizards or Shackles Pirates? Probably Shackles Pirates.

Green Palm or Red Wizards/Green Faith/Red Mantis/Shackles Pirate? So despite wracking my brain I do not know what the Green Palm is. Google was not very helpful as there is a real life organization called Green Palm. It's all about sustainable palm oil.

Green Faith or Red Mantis? Green Faith. I'm not at all an assassin, and the outdoors can be fun.

Green Faith or Shackles Pirates? I want to go see the world so Shackles Pirate.

Green Faith or Red Wizards? Probably Green Faith.

Brotherhood of the Griffon? It would be cool to ride a griffon!

Harpers? I like the Harpers. Usually.

Kusarigama? I'm pretty sure I would strangle and stab myself at the same time!

Bloodstone Swords? I really like the idea of this group, but I wonder how it would work out in the long run.

Moonsea Skysentinel? (I've forgotten if that's only the PrC or the organization, at present.) The Knights of the North? I am not familiar with the PrC, or at least I'm not anymore. So I would have to look it up.

Shades? Hit and miss. There are some things I like about Shade and some others I don't. I like them in concept. But I disliked adding another superpower bad guy empire. It's been a while since I read Return of the Archmages but I don't recall being super impressed with it.

Pathfinders? I would join the society in a heartbeat.

Dark Lanterns? Not familiar with this one. What campaign setting is it from?

Royal Eyes? This one either. Looked them up. I am not very familiar with Eberron at all. I probably should investigate it more.

Church of the Silver Flame/Path of Light? See above.

Telepathy or Telekinesis? Telepathy. Being able to know what people are thinking has a lot more practical everyday use than moving stuff around remotely I think.

Telepathy or Teleportation? Oh, that's a tough one. Both are very useful. I think ultimately I would go with telepathy.

Teleportation or Telekinesis? Teleportation.

Power of Song or Power of Stealth? Song!

Flashy Combat Skills or Grim Focus? Flashiness!

What was your favorite magic class in FFT? Summoner with Calculate. All the spells!

What was your favorite combat class in FFT? Samurai (does that count? It's more support).

What is your favorite era of Forgotten Realms history? The Era of Upheaval. Specifically the time immediately before the Spellplague.

If you could live somewhere in:
Eberron... No idea.

Forgotten Realms... The Silver Marches.

Golarion... Varisia.

PF/FR/Eberron/Any planar cosmology... I really love Placescape but I am not very keen on the planes in other settings. So I don't pay much attention to the specifics and mechanics of then (the great tree and stuff like that).

Just a Mort,

I spoke with the community team and you are correct. Because of issues that have popped up in the past with some AMA threads they have a rule that answers in AMA threads that are posted by anyone other than the person whose thread it is are considered off topic and removed. I wasn't aware of that or I would have mentioned it earlier when I was asked about rules for the thread. I apologize. While I personally am comfortable with folks chiming in with their own thoughts and answers on questions, it is a rule that the community team will have to enforce for all AMA threads, including this one.

I am not super keen on the Wall of the Faithless. I don't like the idea of someone begin a good person all their life but because they chose not to worship a specific deity their soul gets shunted into a wall forever. I much prefer the idea that people who chose not to follow a deity would get sorted into whatever deities afterlife best suites their behaviors and values in life.

One clump of leaves usually makes a whole pitcher of tea. The temperature doesn't matter. Just put it out in the sun and let is steep for a few hours.

A couple of mine, including the long running Shattered Star game, wrapped up pretty recently so all I have going right now is my Monday night office game. I'm headed to Albuquerque for a week tomorrow and may get some one shots in with the old group back home in person though. Looking forward to that. There was some talk about a Mutants and Masterminds of a Star Wars game around the office this week so possibly that too.

So you decided to run both RotRL groups after all?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Aargh! I had a whole post written out, and then, an errand some tap on the refresh page of my phone wipe the whole thing out! Dad gum it!

Sigh.

Anyway, trying again. But this time, instead of taking my time, and making all nice and neat formatting, and doing stuff like asterisks to tell you where important things are not, or OC text to differentiate between things, I'm just going to go ahead and talk type this puppy out, and maybe, just maybe make a few occasional edits if I noticed something has gone wrong somewhere. Then again maybe not !

So, yes! I am! I am running one rise of the room lords as a single player (but six character) for my wife, and the other as a PbP for a trio of guest salted (erm, "gestalted") players.

The single player one has progressed as far as the latter Sandpoint events in burnt offerings, however the play by post has not actually gotten to rise of the run lords yet. The way they are gestalt it is unusual, to say the least. One of the things that they get is a couple of class features from a third class. I am currently running a prequel game parenthesis (a one shot to see how well we like playing together, before committing to a full AP) that takes place roughly 600 years prior to rise of the run Lord. Their characters in this prequel are not the characters that will be in rise of the risen Lord's, however are somehow related.

The one player game for my wife, could have been up to a three player game as well, except my wife's time schedule did not allow that, and the other two people just never were able to materialize anything solid of their schedules either. So we decided to play it together!

Of the six characters that are PCs, she developed three that she considers her characters, and three that were considered my characters. (She chose the basic mechanic conceits, I developed personalities, back stories, and the number crunching for the three guys). She also loves to point out exactly how much I like to torment my characters! And… It's true. I really do. Especially when I'm GM, and end up with a character in the campaign somehow, I love running them through a ringer. it's actually kind of hilarious, as it sort of-kind of ends up like a wharf Worf-effect? Except, of course, they're not always exactly supposed to be worth Worf-like, in the sense that they're not entirely supposed to be invincible, by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, the wiry agile guy that doesn't have much in either offense or defense and mostly talks or steal the bus way out of trouble has recieved more attack rolls and taken far more damage than the rest of the crew put together!

It's become a kind of meme for us, almost. "Oh look, there he goes getting stabbed again." In his defense, usually he's getting stabbed doing something mildly heroic, or at least nice. But yeah. It's pretty funny. And all three of them have absolutely tormented backgrounds. Like, I mean, terrible! Same Guy's story is that he is the unwanted son of a Sandpoint prostitue who tried and failed a few times to get rid of him; taking it as a miserable sign, she moved to Magnimar to make enough money for them both to live off of, but was killed (she was blessed out on drugs and alcohol at the time) when the house collapsed in a wizard-and-demon battle in the Shadows. Young boy, remembering his mother (that he hated) had hated "Sandpoint" decided it had to be the holy land or something and (after realizing he had to wear a blindfold for >reasons<, hence seemingly blind) stole off to it, where he became a "mascot" of, "the ever so kind and generous Scarnetti family" (after all, what could be nicer than taking care of the blind orphaned son of that one prostitute everyone hated, what's'er'name?). And so growing up, he is now a black sheep as no one likes or trusts him - and he even recently got fired by the Scarnettis for confrontations with Jubrayl, but many still thinks it's a trick...
(Also, he no longer needs to wear a blindfold.)

The others are arguably worse.

Anyway, it's fun!

Congratulations on Shattered Star! I'm super hype about running it! (Eventually!) XD

Ooh! Sorry - I forgot to add a question at the end of the last one.

(I had one planned out, but then I picked up my son as I'd been waiting
to do while I talked the whole thing out, and just submitted to ensure I wouldn't lose it all again, forgetting the question.)

I've forgotten what you've said in the past, and I'm too busy (or lazy) to look it up at present: if you could play in Rise of the Runelords as a character associated with one of the following six schools of magic, which would you be associated with and why: abjuration, conjuration, enchantment, evocation, or necromancy?

What kind of a character would that character be?

Would he have fun as a guest character in a gestalt PbP run by me at some point?

>.>

... no reason/just curious.

(Fair warning, I'm not a terribly good PbP GM. I'm trying to learn how, but it's so alien to my in-person experience, that it's really weird.)

Sorry for the delay, I was out of state visiting family and friends all week last week.

Sounds like you have some very interesting character backgrounds! Playing 3 GMPCs sounds rough. I had one and that was too much for me. Good luck! The prequel could be interesting, what is the story?

Hmm, maybe enchantment? I have spent my whole life in retail/customer service so I have some ranks in talky things, so enchantment sounds about right. The wizard I play is an evoker and I enjoy the flashy bits, so evocation could work too.

I love Gummi Bears, the show and the candy! I still occasionally sing the theme song from the show. Gummies of any sort are my favorite candy (the Lifesavers and Welches ones in particular).

Diego Valdez wrote:

Thanks! It's not too bad.

Spoiler Alert! (but Diego can totally read this):
... one of them is prrrrrrrrrooooobably not going to survive book three/four transition. It's less that I'm going to force him to die, and more that given how I've set him up and run him, it's just likely not going to go well.

That said, it's been relatively smooth sailing: you have the gist of what they can do (each is basically a, "this is my school, it's my thing" kind of character) and a solid personality, and you're good to go!

Diego Valdez wrote:

Wwweeeeellllll...

Spoiler alert! Again! (But, again, Diego can read this):
The long and short of it is a kind of background tragedy prequel that will set up the possibilities for others - the three RotR PCs - to become themselves (and to create a kind of 'through' theme, so that if a given PC dies and isn't replaced, for whatever reason, there's something that resonates with a new guy that shows up via mysteeeeeeeerious connections~!

More in-character, three very different n'er-do-wells from across Avistan have been recruited by some elves to rescue a princess. It's a dungeon crawl using islands to pass through, rather than rooms, and featuring wild magic/primal magic/random nonsense (at least in the first few encounters - it may or may not be making a later appearance, now that it's done).

The "entrance" is by a circle of menhirs in the woods that activates semi-randomly...

... so it's a pretty basic plot, really, and not one to write home about, but it's mostly to run a quick prequel. I'm expecting it to reach something resembling an ending "soon" (by which I mean a couple or four more weeks) at the rate we're going (though I'm notorious at judging such poorly).

Diego Valdez wrote:

Sweet! I think that enchantment would be my jam, too, though I have to admit, some of the cooler aspects of conjuration, divination, and illusion are hard to really pass up... and, you know, transmutation would always be super-cool, but I can really get most of that with conjuration (presuming I can trust what I conjure).

Diego Valdez wrote:

Hahah! Yeah, me too! I think it was one of Disney's earliest attempts at a "continuity" show (light as the continuity was), in which occasional callbacks to earlier episodes was actually a thing. I remember it being pretty entertaining, and, though it clearly wasn't the same "tier" as later works, I feel that it helped pave the way for some of the more "important" cartoons (like Duck Tales - which, in turn, allowed such shows as Darkwing Duck, Tale Spin, and even Gargoyles... though that last one, I think, was made possible by the general acceptance of WB's Batman: The Animated Series via the Batman films, as well), and helped encourage Disney in a direction of solid narrative and unique characters.

Ooh, the Welches gummi Fruit Snacks are... well, we still eat them (as do our kids). Basically that and some chocolates are the candy concessions we allow in-house. I don't recall the gummy Lifesavers, but I imagine they're great!

Also, I ninja'd you! While you were typing up your answer, I'd been making a post!

Anyway: favorite Mario game?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Oh!

I forgot to add a few details about the prequel game.

So...

More Prequel Game Stuff:
The "entrance" to the actual game area is in the middle of the trackless wastes of Varisia, about ~600 years before Rise of the Runelords - around ~4109 AR. Aroden is alive, all the Starstone gods have ascended, and Varisia itself is basically just a big question mark of wild lands, and wilder barbarians, and the Wanderers - the Varisians - with their oral traditions and strange movements. The elves were the people that called the heroes.

Also, the group of them were led by a character called "Erevel" - an elf who, it seems, has been leading heroes into this weird place for a very, very long time.

He's led multiple groups into it, and let them finish their mission (whatever that mission is) - or fail to do so, depending on their capabilities and individual goals - for a very, very long time. He then helps them claim whatever reward they can.

If you do want to make a guest character, anything you'd like to craft - total of level 11 or higher - no matter how weird or odd, is a legit thing.

You could even go for a monster or CR 11 or higher... though your character (probably) didn't used to be a monster of CR 11 or higher.

It could, for example, have been a normal adventurer who found themselves mutated into "something else" or who body-swapped with another creature or simply permanently transformed/reincarnated as another creature type (even if that creature has innate power itself).

On the other hand, you could be an awakened... well, anything, really. Adventurers brought in a mount of some kind? A familiar? A powerful magic item? A golem? A particularly nice (or even really lousy, or possibly jerk) spoon? Some thread? A shirt? A lost left shoe eternally looking for its mate? Some jerky or other rations? (Heck, the jerky - or even the fruit or other plants - could have been reincarnated as another kind of now-awakened or naturally sentient animal or magical beast - or some other kind of plant-creature, awakened or naturally sentient - after some adventurers left it behind!

Or something else entirely out of left field! Ever wanted to play a simulacra of Tar-Baphon?! (I doubt it, but...) if so, now's your chance~! Want to play a simple-class template rogue immortal ichor or living lake or some other ooze with a mythic path of your choice or, perhaps, a mythic simple template?! Go nuts~!

Basically, if there's a weird origin story for bizarre abilities, it'd work!

... on the other hand, if you really want to make a 4th level commoner who literally blundered in while running from monsters, that's fine, too!

... on the other hand (wait, what?), being from Golarion isn't, strictly speaking, necessary!

... on the other-other hand (wait... I might need to see a doctor about all these extra hands), if you just wanted to make an entirely normal adventurer... feel free!

It's cool!

In most such cases - either having turned into a monster or not - you'd probably have been a person who knew Erevel at some point in the past (or belonged to a person who knew Erevel, or whatever) and kind of got left here by your former allies (either because they thought you were dead - and, hey, maybe you were - or because they betrayed you, or you were driven temporarily insane and betrayed them, or some evil thing swapped bodies with you and you were left the "monster" and had to help fight yourself off, or some other reason you might come up with). In that event, I'd be glad to give you more details of the world and what's been happening there.

That said, if you just wanted to be a wandering adventurer or wandering entity who happened upon the situation, that's fine, too.

EL/CR 11 is the "expected" beginning thing but...

- one of the adventurers already got, eh... "substantially upgraded" (at least power-wise), though. Specifically, he kept his class levels and became a non-evil shadow demon inhabiting the now-soulless body of an imperial forest dragon. So... you know. He was previously a half-orc with a monster-complex. I'm sure that cleared all that riiiiiiiiiiight up. Riiiiiiiiiiight up. *cough* >.>

- another just bit the dust (well, pollen)... and may or may not be making a vague sort of comeback (we will see).

- the third is so far pretty normal.

... though almost everyone they've run into believes he's a shrunken and polymorphed half-dragon fiendish shadow mammoth (the actual son of a local "dragon knight" that wanders around every once in a while). So, you know... "normal" for the realm this is taking place in.

... so making a higher CR creature or character isn't really beyond the pale.

Please feel free to decline, if you like! I'm not pressuring you to do so, but I am inviting. I do understand the clash of commitments, however...

... and I would especially understand if you weren't too keen on joining what is quickly shaping up to be a tragedy... !Q.Q!

(... though I do expect some non-evil people to survive... just not sure if those are the PCs...)

Anyway, just figured I'd give more details because, like a dunderhead, I hadn't, before.

"Maybe Diego will be psychic enough to ascertain what I'm thinking!"

... who knows! Maybe you can, though! XD

Each character chooses a specialization school other than divination and transmutation. Each person gains one spell of their chosen specialization school, one divination, and one transmutation of each level 1st through 4th that is continuous or at will (based on the nature of the spell in question). Each character gains one additional such spell of one level higher per adventure after the first (5th level at the second adventure, 6th and the third, and so on). Universal spells are granted automatically.

Finally, all characters gain the following stats:

Size: as chosen form
Type: whatever it’s chosen form, but also (augmented spell)
HD: 3+{2*AP} (minimum 5 at first AP), all d10, 2 skills, and poor saves
Speed: 120 ft.
AC: deflection bonus equal to 4+the adventure, +4 (minimum) armor, and +4 (minimum) shield
Defenses: DR [2+2 per AP]/magic; SR 10+HD
Attack: two slams for 1d8+[1.5 Str]; this may also create any magic effect from each individual’s magic list on the creature in question onto the creature slammed
Special Attack: it’s a mystery!
Abilities: Str, Con, Cha of [10+highest spell level]; Dex, Wis of [7+highest spell level]; Int of 27; it gains a +4, +4, +2, +2, +0, and -2 to be distributed to its ability scores. It gains a +4 enhancement bonus to all ability scores.

Magic Incarnate (Su): gain a number of specific spells, and unique spells, as described above. Any such spells are useable as a free action, a swift action, a move action, and a standard action – each once per round at maximum. As a full-round action, they can instead use seven times per round, but may take no other action, not even a five-foot step, and you are dazed and dazzled for the following round. Extremely similar spells “gestalt” and “stack” with themselves – that is, they combine and are blended into a singular ability that functions similarly to their base parts, only greater. For an example of this, see “scream” below. Work with your GM for combining your spell effects. All spells must be from the sorcerer/wizard list. The DCs for all effects are based off of a score of your choice, and are treated as the highest level you could cast with that score, maximum half your hit dice.

Magical Ward (Su): gain a resistance bonus to all saves equal to the highest level spell you have as part of your core (3+adventure, minimum 4).

Mythic: you each gain a single mythic simple template; a given simple template can be selected no more than once, meaning one character does not receive the template; the last character instead receives a non-mythic template of his or her choice. Any template that requires a permanent choice may have that choice revised at the beginning of the next adventure. In addition, at the beginning of each adventure, a given creature may choose a single mythic ability from any path they desire; at the end of each adventure, they may change this ability for any other they desire. They may not select a mythic ability that requires a tier more than half their hit dice. All gain 10 bonus hit points per adventure.

Spell Effect (Sp): the spells that are the core of your being may be used in conjunction with any natural attack you have. You may attempt any sort of natural attack to utilize any number of those spells along side it against the target of your assault. The creature receives the immediate effect of that spell, as specified by you.

That's... a lot, I know! The magical effects that were pre-chosen were chosen for relative simplicity and streamlining of things (no ammunition to keep track of, ignoring most common local weather issues, and so on) and to emphasize the "odd" nature of the characters (who do not start out knowing each other) - even though there are a lot, they often (purposefully) overlap each other or simplify things (it's also to help prevent players going, "Ooh! I'll choose that one!" when they already have a better version).

In any event, you could (should you like) choose to make a character as noted above "just for fun" or, instead, you could choose to make the missing Transmutation character. Or you could choose to definitely not do that, because it's complicated and weird! XD

(Also, for the record, I beefed up a number of encounters, from increasing the numbers to increasing the power, depending. Others I just left the same and let them be pushovers. Lots of fun!)

((One of the more interesting things is that I expect this AP will get steadily harder as it goes on, despite the "automatic" power increase - this is because the PCs start out four relative levels above the expected, but end the AP at the expected level (or even under). While they'll have phenomenal cosmic power ('cause, you know, magic), they'll have the itty-bitty living space of relatively low hp, skill checks, and BAB - and none of them are anything like truly optimized, as that's not a game we devote ourselves too (well, I do sometimes, but not in a game like this). So... big numbers and weird effects are more "fun with oddness", instead of difficult to handle.))

Either way, I thought it would be amusing to share.
