Dragon Demand: Building an Archer

Advice

I'm about to be running dragons demand soon for that sweet bow, but I'm sorta stuck on what to make. I was thinking Slayer, but getting ranged sneak attacks sounds difficult to pull off effectively. I thought unchained rogue, but again, same deal (Besides the more attacks the more chance to crit) then of course I figured I could try a fighter or ranger but the fighter is snoresville and the ranger, well, I hate Favored Enemy as a mechanic. Maybe a cavalier? I could Zen archer and be a god, but, IDK, it's so dumb easy and I don't wanna just take the most obvious choices. If I can make ranged sneak attacks work I'd love a slayer, otherwise what do?

I have a suggestion the first is check out the miss hit/miss build your gonna have to google that or check zenith guide to the builds (in the comments on the bottom) have you considered a paladin archer? Your arrows with be insane against say an evil dragon? Lol check out the divine hunter archtype

This build is cool because eyou get the flavor of the rogue (plus the sneak attack) and the archer fighter gives you some cool things to do in combat, grab some adamantium tipped arrows and you'll be destroying enemy wepons for days

For rangers play a guide and you don't have to interact with the FE mechanic at all.

The Instant Enemy spell solves that problem. And if nothing else, just look at Favored Enemy as a special treat you sometimes get, not a workhorse mechanic to build your character around. It's pretty good flavor for character backstory, though.

If you wanna mix it up and throw in some caster, you can go Bard or Hunter archers, having either great buffs or a pet. Hell, you could make a Druid archer work, using the archetype that trades wild shape for slayer talents to get access to the Ranger's no-prerequisite archery feats.

Hi, that bow sucks I think, because of bracers of falcon's aim?

They don't stack and the bracers are awesome

Play a Freebooter Ranger. It was basically the precursor to the Slayer's Studied Enemy. It get's rid of FE, but retains the ranger chassis which is one of the best for Archery.

As a bow user, completely ignore Sneak Attack. You will never be able to use it enough while performing ranged attacks to make it worthwhile. To be effective at sneak attacking with a bow you basically need Greater Invisibility every combat.

The Exchange

Can't go wrong with a bow paladin. If you want to go real deep you could be a Zen Archer / Empyreal Wildblooded Sorcerer / Arcane Archer to add an interesting spin.

I'm fairly sure he's talking about PFS so bracers of falcon's aim are banned so there's no conflict with using this unique bow.

This does make a fair point though. You should avoid using a druid ranger or hunter because they can just cast Aspect of the Falcon. You would basically be wasting the bow on such classes.

Edit: A Stabbing Shot + Snap Shot archer? You push back the enemy regardless of his size and make attacks of opportunity as he gets pushed through threatened squares while also completing your full attack.

Druid, ranger, or hunter would all be fine. Especially the ranger who doesn't have many spell slots. While sure he could cast Aspect of the Falcon, it eats up a turn and even at 12th level eats up his spell slots. All 2 per day that he gets (with extra from bonus wisdom). Generally speaking, it's not wise to rely on such as a constant combat tactic. The bow still has plenty of merit for a ranger.

This is still true for a druid or hunter to a lesser extent. Although, a druid probably should avoid ranged weapons altogether since to use them would require avoiding Wildshape, or using very specific wildshape altered abilities like Goliath Druid.

Also, generally speaking forced movement (see combat maneuvers) doesn't provoke without a special feat. In the case of combat maneuvers the Greater X feat is what usually does it. I would say that the movement from Stabbing Shot likely doesn't provoke. But would get them away from you so could make attacks without provoking for firing a bow.

Of course, the better way to do this is to play a Fighter, Ranger, Slayer, or Zen Archer who get access to Point Blank Master or something equivalent.
