Heyah kid! Wanna go see the planes? (And which one[s]?)

"Resistance training?" I don't want to train water to gain fire resistance; water's scary and dangerous enough already! You're right that I sometimes shoot fire at the water to burn it away into steam, but if I'm training the water to get stronger resistance against me, I better stop! Thanks Mr. Tels. Next time I need to use a searing flame to cut down on that resistance.
One doesn't get stronger, by training against the weak. You need to find challenging opponents to increase the strength of your flames. If that means you are creating that challenging opponent, by making the most flame resistant water in the world, then so be it. You know you'll always have someone, or something, worthy of training against.

You might be right...so what really powerful enemy do you train against, Tels, in your quest to become stronger at what you do?

I recently learned that El Salvador's town of Najapa has a Fireball Festival in which they hurl kerosene soaked rags, wrapped in wire and then lit on fire at each other (video) to commemorate a volcano that erupted in 1658, forcing all of the villagers to relocate. Legend has it, the patron saint of El Salvador, Saint Jeronimo, fought off the evil of the Devil using fireballs from the volcano.

1) Have you ever participated in a festival like this?

2) Does it surprise you that, despite being a tradition for 90 years, very few injuries (outside of minor burns) or acts of vandalsim/arson have occurred over it's history?

3) What are your thoughts on this festival?

Hey Yoon, I was wondering... If you ever team up with a geokineticist in the future, one who is able to pull metal from the ground, how awesome would it be to blast it with your blue flame and cause the enemy to get coated in molten metal?

I mean, fire itself is pretty awesome (even though I use air), but come on... molten metal!

Molten metal is more like lava, so that makes it awesomer than regular metal and more fiery, but you could take out the metal entirely and just put in more fire, so that could be even better! Then again, teaming up with a geokineticist to make a composite blast together would be pretty fun. I'm really good with putting in powerful substances, and those geokineticist use a weaker element than fire that misses a lot, so they have to learn how to aim. Together we could kick butt!

I'm not sure what that is, but I guess you know more about titans like how I know more about the Lady of the North Star! I feel like that name sounds like the Lady of the North Star's home a little bit.

Eomma came from Hwanggot to Minkai, and that's where she met Appa, whose family came from Hwanggot in the past but he was born in Minkai. I went on a journey to Hwanggot to see where Eomma came from after the traveler helped me with my fire.

Anyways, Appa and his bitter friends thought Minkai is not a happy place because of the bad stuff the Jade Regent does. They must be right because the Typhoon Guard killed them. If you go there and you see Nigankona-Taishou, he's the one who led those guards. Give him something nasty from me, but not fire because Halmoni's fire didn't burn him very well.

3) I think it's stupid to use fireballs against devils. Devils are the worst because fire doesn't work on them, so you have to blind them and let someone else finish them off. Maybe that's what Jeronimo did. Or I guess he was using magma which can hurt them a little.

Have you enjoyed this festival yourself?

Well, it depends on what minions the Devil used. If it was just evil spirits, then fireballs should work just fine, or it could have been evil men which means it would be a great choice.

As for myself, I've never participated. I've never even left my home country before.

No, but its basically a giant ball of burning air that's strong enough to crush a dragon into a nickel. With the right protective gear and spells, you might enjoy it, however. Go ask Erzen if he can cast planar adaptation and interplanetary teleport yet. He owes you a favor.

In Yoon's culture gift giving is expected to be reciprocated, if I recall properly. Those looking to engage in commerce there should be prepared to engage in much of that practice.

I don't know. Minkai is pretty far away now that I've come to these strange exotic lands in the Inner Sea, so you might get there first. But it's a big place, bigger than most Westerners expect, so you probably wouldn't run into him anyway. But if you do, strike with great vengeance!

I like to blow smoke at them, blind them, strip their magics, and just generally make them feel bad! If I gotta, I'm a pretty good shot with a holy crossbow bolt, but even though I love to burn bad guys, I don't have to be the one doing the awesomest shot every single time. A few times, like devils, someone else can get the glory. I'm not a big baby like Alain who whines and pouts whenever he can't bring his horse into a dungeon or if the enemy is in the air, or if he can't charge it because he always has to be the center of attention. The Lady of the North Star teaches that you have to be able to change your ideas to work for your bright future, not just expect that your same best idea will always win every time and hand it to you like Alain does. That's why people shouldn't treat me like a kid!

Hi Yoon.

You're eight and a quarter, right? Did you know that there is a tome of lore for adventurers which says young people shouldn't be allowed to go on adventures at all until they are at least nine years old?

It also says they have to be about the same height as old people, and probably shouldn't be allowed to do anything cool like control fire with their minds or be friends with talking foxes until they're fifteen... or get special permission.

On the other hand, the 'Bestiary' tomes say that the young are just smaller and usually better at different things than old people (e.g. better at dodging things, not so good at carrying heavy stuff).

What do you think? Are you different from the older people you have gone on adventures with?

Hmm, well, while I have hatred of constructs and swarms(and pretty much that attacks my mind) since those always almost kill me, I guess have to go with that ooze that grows in size when slashed and infects with tumors. That wasn't fun... I suppose it wasn't hardest monster I have encountered, thanks to a wizard burning them to death, but it certainly was one of more nastier ones.

Now what was BEST monster is much easier question to answer. So, what is the best monster you have ever fought? Best one for me was giant squid wizard.

The derro do it because they're dumb. They probably think that since the word is "kidnap" that they have to take me, but then fire beats net, just like fire beats a lot of things.

You're supposed to decline a gift the first time to let the person giving it to you know how great a gift it was. If you just accept right away, that means that you either think they gave you a really bad or worthless gift or that you think that you are just far more important than the person giving it to you and so you deserve such a good gift. Either one is bad, but you know those crazy exotic Avistani with their weird cultures, right?

... yeah that's pretty much exactly the opposite of the way things work here. Turning down a gift on the first offering is seen as a rejection of the gift, and trying to offer someone a gift after they've rejected it is seen as begging for their attention and considered... well, kinda pathetic, really.

I dunno. Ring of fire elemental command is pretty awesome, but I'm more awesome than the ring on my own, so I don't need it. Orbs of dragonkind are pretty awesome too, so maybe that one, but I wouldn't use it to control dragons because the Lady of the North Star says you shouldn't take away someone's choices. I also like how the best orb is the fire gold dragon one. But then I heard that all those other powers are also because of trapping a dragon, so maybe the whole orb is bad. A vril staff can be pretty funny too. I thought the gem of dreams would be something from the Lady of the North Star, but it turned out to be mega evil! Flame of guidance is also pretty awesome, but if I had only one item, I wouldn't have a celestial lens, and I'm worried about letting water and cold hurt me more easily...

OK, I think I figured it out. Runner-up is flamma horacalcum, which is actually fire and also really really awesome, but I should be fair to air, so cloud castle of the storm king is probably the awesomest, but they need to make a kind that's fire!

Everyone knows that books aren't very smart, like people are. They're just writing on a page. Why do you think Ezren got caught by a noose? He's always studying his books all the time.

Anyway, different people are different because we're each different and do our own things, but I wouldn't say that Ezren and Alain and Kyra are all the same just because they're all really old.

Dear Yoon,

I need some fire related advice.

Legacy of Fire:
I'm part of a group of adventurers operating out of the town of Kelmerane, which we helped reclaim and rebuild, but now we've apparently accidentally released an efreet prince who wants to merge with Xotani the Firebleeder, one of Rovagug's spawn, in order to impress a fire goddess. As the expert on all things fire, how should we keep this selfish jerk of a genie from destroying our new home (and much of Eastern Garund with it)?

Sincerely,

Archpaladin Zousha
