Typo in Advance Race Guide?

Rules Questions

Is this a typo:

Battle-Hardened (4 RP): Prerequisites: None; Benefit: Members of this race gain a +1 bonus to CMD.

4 race points for a +1 to CMD?

It is what it is. It's actually a really good racial too - it's for Hobgoblins. I'd replace Sneaky for that, sure.

If you think about what CMD affects, that +1 actually covers quite a bit - trips, steals, over runs, bull rushes, sunders, etc....

Personally, I don't think it's overpriced at all, FWIW.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

But why not pay the 4 RP for +2 Strength? It adds +1 CMD, along with quite a bit of other stuff.

Or for a flex feat...

Don't like it, don't take it. That bonus is significant for Martials...
They can't fly or create fireballs, but if they can get a +1, it might be worth having...

Or a +2 dex...

I think the point is that if you're building a race from scratch, you're throwing RP points away spending 4 on that when spending 4 on another ability gets you the +1 CMD AND a bunch of other stuff. A +2 dex or str is worth a heck of a lot more than a +1 CMD but they cost the same RP.

Or a +2 dodge bonus to AC which also applies to CMD. I doubt it's a typo, but there are a lot of skeevy things about the race builder. For example Spell resistance, lesser (6+HD) is 2 RP and Spell resistance, greater (11+HD) is 3 RP. Either is available regardless of your RP buy limit (assuming greater than 2), you'd assume greater would at least require advanced or monstrous point buys.

Race making is an art, not a science.
