I tried most of the places right near the hotel.
The Thai place was good (I'm not a huge Thai fan, but I like sticky rice).
The Hawaian place is so-so, very fast-foody.
I liked the barbeque place a little farther down - I think it's called Sharps?
Then there's Denny's and Jack in the Box, which you're probably familiar with.

Are there any convenient forms of public transportation (or hotel shuttles) to get to more interesting parts of Seattle?
This will be my first time in Seattle, and i'd like to see some of the sights and not spend my entire weekend inside a hotel.
There is! A Rapid Shuttle runs most of the day up the main thoroughfare (International Blvd?) in front of the hotel. About two stops north (or a 15-20 minute walk) is the SeaTac Light Rail Station. You can take this into Seattle; it's a ~35-40 minute trip into the city. This is a quick and easy way to get downtown, which has Pike's Place & the Wharfs in terms of most readily accessible touristy things. I'd also recommend the EMP Museum, which is a bit further into the city and a walk or short taxi ride. Admission is $22 online/$25 at the door not including any special exhibits they may be running that include an upcharge. I found it very worth it when I went last year and spent a good 2+ hours there.

Will have to see what kind of sweeteners the barbecue place uses with their sauces...
Denny's -- Unless it's the Court of Last Resort I'm not flying fifteen hundred miles to eat at one.
Jack's Box -- we don't really have those there, so that might be a nice emergency spot, too.

Getting up to the sky needle & EMP the monorail is a bit of good fun.
The Underground tour is excellent.

Another place near the con, just a block away is Dave's Diner. Nothing great, but a decent diner - and way better than Denny's.

I would second the Underground tour. Also, worth a trip if you can get there is the Museum of Flight (at Boeing Field). It was amazing. Finally, a trip to Boeing itself is worth a trip (last I was there you could get a Grey Line tour there). Awe-inspiring, actually.
For food, you almost cannot go wrong unless you go to a chain restaurant... at least once you get into Seattle proper.

I still have a hard time believing we fit everyone in yer car last year.
But, the place we went to was top notch.
Their scotch locker and the company both helped, though the food was quite fine as well.

Hey just a quick update, I've been out of the office for about a week and a half with a nasty bug. I'm trying to get back into the swing of all things PaizoCon as quickly as possible.
No worries Sara, after all - staff chocolate treats from the UK rests solely on your capable shoulders!
I'm fairly sure your office won't put too much pressure on you - and even better - for once, you can't blame Cosmo! :P

That swimming pool looks so nice on the hotel web site - what are the temperatures like in Seattle during the Con dates?
Should I expect floating icebergs or scorching days that require pool use?
Should we plan to bring and use suntan or our winter woollies?
(Yeah, I'm trying to work out how much space to reserve in the suitcase for Con purchases :P)

Thank you, i'll keep my eyes peeled, unless you can say when it will go live. :)

Historically the weather is 50s to 60s. Record high is 88°.

This year is going to be crazy travel, and even though hotel/transport/lodging/money are lining up decent enough, it's still got me wondering when the shoe is going to drop.
Humble bundle and new tablet are gotten, so there's even less I have to stress carrying, but it's still nerve-wracking, like I'm forgetting something exceptionally important but can't remember what.
PaizoCon --> Back for a week-ish --> Family outing near Pittsburgh --> Back for a month-ish --> Gen Con...

Here you go - no pressure!
Maybe I can prise the RPG Superstar start date from one of the staff and create a clock for that too when I am there! :P

Hey all - Chocolate update :P
I visited Thornton's in my high street and stocked up on their 60% off post Easter sale - so I have A LOT of chocolates to share at Paizocon.
If you want to see what you might have a chance at nabbing samples of, check out their website here.
I fully expect to run out on day 1 of the con, so one of the advance revealed non official con games is
"Find Template Fu. Say Hi. Get Chocolate Reward!"
Rules are simple, as in the name above :P - plus one other semi hard rule - one chocolate per person. You can try multiple times and test my memory (which is rubbish), you are gamers after all, but do try to allow others a chance if you can.

I've actually been surprised that it's relatively easy to find people, even if you don't know them, with the name tags everyone wears. Majuba makes some yummy goblin brains - which you should definitely not reserve when he posts about them ;) - and I had never met him, but we rode in an elevator together maybe 2 years back, I recognized his forum name on his tag, he spotted mine, and the goodies were delivered as we reached the lobby.
Think of it as a game!

Gen Con a few years ago started doing these 'games in the hallways' with stations and boards and the like.
Something about them always rubbed me the wrong way, and it occurred to me after reading your post, Khel, as to WHY they rub me the wrong way, and it may help me grow better as a person from it.
Simply put, in a high-pressure situation (running to catch slot, trying to arrange a group to get through 'cattle call', trying to hit dealer hall between slots and not get trampled, etc) these are distractions and I can be an easily distracted person.
In a different venue, with a different series of stressors and relaxers, hopefully I can filter the 'fun' from the 'stress'.
As previously noted, I'm already a bundle of nerves -- going to a convention halfway across the country, flying commercially into a city I've only flown MAC into (over two decades ago), and hundreds of other things that can snowball.
Perhaps finding names I can relate to from the forums will help? The idea of spending the weekend tanked isn't a good one, even if it was in the budget...

Oh, man. Convention season is always weird for me in that I recognize so many people from previous years, but my big dumb name memory always fails me. I almost always remember folks that were in my games or other more intensive interactions, but I fail more often than not. I'm really happy that we let folks put their messageboard handles on their badges, because that helps me make the connection between real name and cool-person-from-the-messageboards-that-I've-interacted-with-for-years that much faster.
(Which I guess is me saying... Don't be upset if I forget your name. I meet hundreds of people every summer... and... tell me your messageboard name... and... don't be afraid to approach us, we're there to see all y'all!)

My chocolate for you comes attached with a business card to help you out! :)

Now thinking how much chocolate / jelly babies do I need to bring from the UK....
Maybe I should use my second suitcase allowance after all
:)
Lol, I have! >.< - I have like 14 boxes of chocolates of various fillings and flavors - all being tested with my personal supply to make sure I only bring the really delicious ones.
My plan is simple, fill my case with chocolate, and the few clothes I need, then when the chocolate is gone, all that space can be filled with gaming goodies! >.<

I'll probably be the only UK person wearing a straw boater, so should stand out - I'm also not a small person which will help too!
And as I will have my gadgets with me, I will very likely post here descriptions of what T-shirts, etc. I am wearing and my plans for the day to help people find me.

I'm so stealing that name for my next Gnome Bard! Or possibly the leader of the next tribe of Goblins.

I'd almost say 'ship the chocolate now, so that way it could clear Customs, but that's probably as expensive as trying to use it as a second piece of luggage.
Have a co-worker that buys up all the discount American candy at the end of major holidays to take back to Jordan with her for her family...

The big weakness I have for US confection is still Reese's Peanut Butter Cups - they are so wrong but so yum!
