Packing list? We don't need no stinking packing list!

Once, young grasshopper, I thought as you.

And then the GenCon from Hell happened.

Hotel fell through, ended up two miles away.

Transporting GM materials (for a different campaign) over two miles by foot was... an educational experience in 95+ degrees and 90+humidity.

This was attenuated by the fact that no two events for a given organization seemed to be in the same location. So after judging a slot... another couple of blocks to the next slot, etc, etc.

Packing light but efficiently is crucial.

I also added things like swimming trunks 'cos that pool looks nice at the hotel and I'm just daft enough to try and use it.

Thanks for saying something about that, it's one of the things that I almost always miss on my list, either for events (Wei goes to pool at 'x') or equipment (forgetting to bring trunks)

Scarab Sages

Never made it to the pool last year....maybe this time :)

That might be a way to make one hope not to win lottery events :)

In past PaizoCons, I've been so focused on gaming that I would never have had time to go to the pool. If I wasn't gaming, eating with fellow gamers, or talking about gaming (perhaps at a panel), I was sleeping.

Unless you're an Undine with the proper alternate racial trait, I do not recommend sleeping in the pool.

Grand Lodge

Yeah, I never have time to do anything but game and sleep.

Omg, I forgot about the pool!

We're actually staying in the con hotel this year and with the weather we've been having, a swim would probably be delightful!

He he, my plan is to wake at 6, pool by 6.15, for an hour exercise, then a nice crispy bacon butty for breakfast without the guilt! :P - This assumes the pool allows early morning swims of course >.<

If you are looking for Mexican, Southern, or BBQ, you are likely to be disappointed. (Though I have made it a personal mission to locate such places up here.)

Actually found a decent BBQ place at 105th St & Greenwood Ave N - but that's quite far from the hotel and most others reading this. Best fast mexican has been at UW - 24-hour Memo's at 50th St & University.

But yes, most of the teriyaki I've had here has been quite decent. Masae's Teriyaki two blocks south of the hotel is well reviewed, but I can't speak for it personally.

Best Mexican I've found is Senior Moose in Ballard - also not at all close to the hotel.

There actually used to be a Memo's in the area but it's California Burrito now; it's about 3 miles south of the hotel straight down 99. Two years ago it was still pretty good; couldn't tell you about it now.

If you're really after Mexican food I'll recommend La Carta de Oaxaca in Ballard but like Senior Moose, also nowhere near the hotel.

For the paizo store and/or any other booths or whatever with cool swag to buy do they take cash only or cash and credit or credit only?

I've never been and was just thinking about this... was getting ready to dump a large payment on my card but now I'm wondering if I shouldn't.

All merchandise sales at PaizoCon are processed at a single point, and cash or credit is fine.

As I promised to have chocolates until the supply runs out, I thought I'd help the chocolate hunt...

So...

No Lone Wolf?

Edit: Found this, "In addition to Paizo staff, we also invite many of our business partners to attend PaizoCon: Lone Shark Games, Lone Wolf Development (Hero Lab, Realm Works), Obsidian Entertainment (Pathfinder Adventures), Reaper Miniatures, and Syrinscape—these are just a few of the people you'll find wandering the convention! Many of our third-party Pathfinder Roleplaying Game publishers are also on-hand, including (but definitely not limited to) Frog God Games, Kobold Press, Legendary Games, and Zombie Sky Press!"

Here so looks like they will be there!

There will be no Hero Lab / Lone Wolf presence this year. They needed to bow out.

Edit: their marketing manager left in early April. They are scaling back some projects until her replacement is hired. Paizo Con is one of those projects.

So try to guess at advancement for characters and have them pre-printed prior to the convention, got it.

Thank you for the update!

There was a joke up-thread about a packing list, but..

Given one week out and I'm off today and Thursday, this is a good opportunity to get some stuff lined up.

Will printed pages be needed of all source material if I have my reader with me with .pdfs on it?

I know I need the Core book, and my Folio... does anyone have a break-down on what other books are really handy to have on a 'flying' weight limit?

As long as you can provide the watermarked PDF of the resource and are fine with the GM handling your reader, you're good to go. I haven't brought a hardcover book to PaizoCon in......uh....I don't remember?

I may need to buy PDFs. Some jackass broke into my car. He stole a tool box. And I think he was probably disappointed to find out he had jacked a ton of PF books. But now I am short a few critical pieces to make a legal PC.

Do we need to print out badges/event tickets or will that be on-site?

All of that will be on site. If you have a favorite lanyard, I recommend you bring it. There will be a mass checkin of nerds Friday morning. Friday morning GMs usually get a "Move to the Front of the Line" pass.

Yeah, I always leave a lanyard in my backpack since a lot of cons use pins or flimsy string holders.

Here's hoping the game tickets fit in the plastic badge holder.

If it helps, we adjusted the ticket format to fit in the dimensions of the badge holders we include in the packets last year :)

I've got one of those 'deluxe' GenCon jobbers, so as long as I remember to pack it.

Now... sourcebooks... don't need UM, UC, UE, ISWG, APG, UC...

Have tengu so need ARG

Have Unchained rogues so need Unchained

Need Core

Need characters

Need ISG for two characters

Need OccA for newbie

Need Folio

Need to check to see if ACG is on tablet..

Also, I say this every year, but it bears repeating:

PaizoCon runs one of the most efficient convention registration check ins I've ever seen. And I've run some for big events before. Even if the line looks intimidating, don't fret. It moves very quickly.

Badges and event tickets will be in your registration packet. I personally recommend printing or saving your current schedule somewhere easily accessible, but that's up to you.

As for check in, I believe last year we cleared the registration queue within 45 minutes. We have a Thursday evening pick up for early morning GMs and since the registration line moves so quickly there isn't really a need to fast track GMs to the front. What helps make this go faster is if you know the name you have on your paizo.com account (found here: My Account: Personal Settings) and have your ID ready.

How late will the Paizo staff be setting things up tonight? Also, would there be any way to discuss something with whoever is directing the setup of the merch section?
